I have just bought my first harmonica, a Fender Blues Deluxe, which is an affordable one, very good though. I also have my Fender Hotrod Deluxe amp and I can't wait to get my harp to plug it with a Shure sm58 microphone... Great video as all of yours.

You know, this video and your Crossroads videos explains the sound of 'Good Love' by Poison, which evidently is an amplified harmonica. What a beautiful driven sound!

Love your work and you are quite right being a fan more of the stick mics than the bullets. The late great Little Walter pioneered the distortion sound in spite of only having a JT30 (so I've read) at his disposal. You can't beat a sure 57 or equivalent. I read and looked at a lot of videos and nothing really pointed me in the right direction. I worked it out for myself and the key ingredient is sending the SM57 through a graphic equaliser first and killing all frequencies above 1000Hz, then clipping the signal through a little tube amp. This results in the smoothest trumpeting sound as close to Blind Owl as you can get. It is a sure fire way. Feedback still remains an issue, but try building a dummy load in parallel with with the speaker. 1 or 2 Watts is plenty to get the sound.

Thanks Thanks Thanks. Why you ask I've kinda lost my joy of playing due to not having a that amp sound, I'm encouraged to do something about that after hearing your sound, however I'm on disability income, and it's gonna take awhile to get a amp! But I will and I will start playing again at my church,, thanks again, WOW

very good playing, and excellent tips and techniques, especially with the audio-engineering science added in.....see, music isn't just about "art", some science of how things work in the physical universe is very helpful ! PS, I'm not a harp plsyer and I'm not much of a guitar player but I have significant experience at fixing vintage tube type guitar amps, and for electrified harp, small, low power amps with small light thin-coned speakers are usually best.

THANK YOU, VERY MUCH, ADAM, FOR THIS EXCELLENT DEMO, AND TUTORIAL!!! I AM CONSIDERING USING ONE OF THE "DIGITAL" (BATTERY/POWER SUPPLIED) "MICRO-AMPS, BECAUSE THEY'RE SMALL, LIGHTWEIGHT, AND PORTABLE, AND GREAT FOR "PRACTICING", BUT, I'M WONDERING IF I CAN PLUG IN A "CONDENSER MIC" INTO IT, AND , THEN, IS THERE A "TUBE" EFFECTS PEDAL AVAILABLE THAT WOULD GIVE IT EXCELLENT "TUBE-DISTORTION" EFFECTS"??!!!.... ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS?!....(I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO LUG A 50 POUND AMPLIFIER AROUND) I'M NOT LOOKING FOR "HIGH VOLUME", JUST GREAT TONES!!!

So i have a shure bullet mic and a few amps. A Boss guitar amp, Roland keyboard amp(which is a great acoustc amp) and a Boss powered moniter(tiny with a big natural sound). Trying to get that distorted sound on the guitar amp that has some effects causes severe feedback. Do i have to have a tube amp for that sound? Thanks!
