I am an one hand musician, and on the harmonica, I use a Shaker Mad Cat to plug into my small 10 watts amp.

This was a very well done tutorial/comparison of mics, and exactly the type of information I was looking for. I noticed this was first posted 2 years ago...it astounds me that I just discovered you now (I have been compiling my favorite blues harmonica artists from KZbin for sometime). When I have time - likely this weekend, I am going to look at your other videos, and will definitely check out your CD. By the way, being that I am born and raised in Chicago, it always gives me a thrill when a blues artist refers to 'Chicago blues'. Blues and pizza - makes me proud of my city!

Great survey of Shaker's excellent mics. Thanks for the comparo. I've used a dynamic Shaker for years and loved it (really durable, great feedback resistance, very adaptable), but I think I need to branch out into the rest of the range and you've helped me figure out which direction to go in. Thanks!

I think the MadCat had the best sound. The MadDog would be my second choice. Louder version of the MadCat.

Hi Will, great playing. I was wondering about the Retro Rocket. I have one, and like it but when I play it back to back with my Shure 57, I find the Rocket to not be as responsive to a lighter attack than the 57. Also the sound seems a little more muffled. Do you get the same impression?

Thanks. Is the mic plugged directly into an amp or are you using an effects pedal of some kind? BTW great sounds and your playing is fantastic. Man, I hope to get half that good.

Hi Will. I want to say I really enjoy your style of playing. I've been watching a few of your videos, I'm just starting out on the harmonica, I've been working on the scales that you show, really helpful. There is a section on this video around 5:45 where you start off with a scale then you go into a real cool harmonica rhythm do you have a video on how to play that. Thanks Mike,I would like to buy you CD where would I buy that at.

How do these compared to the green bullet for feedback?? Which one has the lowest feedback? Thx
@willharmonicawilde
@willharmonicawilde 5 жыл бұрын
In my experience these are much more feedback resistant. The modern green bullets (Share 520DX) are terrible for feeding back.

I saw that I could order the shaker with the crystal element on eBay. I don't think those are available any more from the company. Which one do you recommend? I think in your video you said that one of the mics that you had had the crystal element. Thanks.
@willharmonicawilde

Hi Frank, yes I don't think Shaker make the crystal one any more. It's a shame because the Retro Rocket with the crystal element was my favorite Shaker mic, I used it on all of my "Raw Blues" album.

Overdriving the input on a mixing console is not going to yield the same tone or distortion characteristics as overdriving a tube amp that is then mic'ed. There might be some sort of compact option like a guitar effect pedal that might get your closer without having to lug an amp around.
@benbalmer
@benbalmer 3 жыл бұрын
I use a madcat mic into a pa going through a boss blues driver pedal and it works pretty great. The pedal sounds pretty terrible for guitar in my opinion but I think it does a good job mimicking an amp for a harp. Definitely easier than lugging an amp around. When I fly to gigs that’s generally my setup and I’ve always been very pleased.

what amp do you use for gigging great mics for recording but when gigging its all about the amp real distortion sound can use filthy distortion recording but gigging different story even using A95U converter into desk

The harmonica is about ready to go for a renaissance of some sort if makers will be brave enough to produce harps that are designed to forge past sounds steeped in 100 years of the past.
