My 92 year old dad, who still lives on his own, does have dementia, but is blessed to have my sister and myself to visit him everyday...but he struggles with being depressed. He misses my mom who has been gone for 9 years, and keeps saying he wants to 'go home' (die). This isn't an everyday thing, but at least 2 times a week. It is very hard being a 'cheerleader' and trying to hold up his mood. Both my sister and I get worn down. He has made it very clear that moving into a 'community' is out of the question for now. He is independent...showers, dresses, makes breakfast, goes out for short trips in the car to see a friend at a close park and on the once in a while I can't be there days, he always says it was 'too quiet' that day. How do we speak to him to encourage him to maybe consider moving where he'd have 'friends' his age, good meals, and that we would still visit just as much, so the reason to move would be give him a chance to be motivated to be more engaged in life and others instead of just depending so heavily on my sister and I for all the emotional support. I know we have it so easy compared to many, and for that I am grateful, but I am getting tired. I am 65 and spend4 days a week for about 4-5 hours at a time. I am retired, but I have a husband and other things I try to keep up on such as teaching a Sundayschool class for teens, clean the church, and now take care of all finances for my Dad and my own family. So just some direction on how to talk him into at least considering a retirement community with some help. Thank you.

I can relate to your busyness and devotion. My Dear Darling diagnosed with Vascular, Parkinson and Alzheimer demands a lot of my time/presence/devotion. I am grateful to our Heavenly Father for allowing me to care for him even though he is in a Memory Care center. All this time, I was looking after my 90 yr. old parent at home. I just couldn't do it and let God lead me. I tried to persuade my mother to go to an Assisted living and she refuses. Her choice not mine!... God opened the door for me to get in to a Senior home. He knows how tired and worn out I was becoming. I rely on God since no one in our family supports me which I didn't expect. I am in my new sweet home...I visit my Darling just 5 x now a week of which I take the bus and walk to and from which can be hard on my hip and knee...all in all...please find a way to not let yourself be worn out because our family (dementia person) and spouse and children also deserves our time...We need to be strong ...but balance is needed! We need to accept what is happening with our Loved Ones whose brain is dying...I learned Ethical lying...just hear them out...then try to change the direction of his/her rant and it really does work...God keep you strong!

My father in law is mild to moderate with his thinking. We had to put him in a memory care facility due to severe incontinence, gait problems, and needing to stop driving. He’s very mad at us and threatening to sue. He’s angry every time we visit.

My mother n law has dementia and is moderate maybe going into the later stages of dementia. She stays alone in her home but dies have care givers 90% of the time. But the biggest struggle is she doesn’t want to be alone at night , but doesn’t want anyone unless it’s family that she recognizes to stay with her. Anybody else she picks at them, constantly suspicious of EVERYTHING they do. We have been through so many Caregivers. She is aware of her home and she demands respect of anyone that comes in her home. She getting to the stages of anger. How can we get her to accept a caregiver to stay overnight?

Shes dying in that house its in her wills.Believes people make drugs in her basement, take..but replace her things with new things that look like hers but are not. She has thrown away everything from pots to clothes and shoes..they "the people or druggies-as she calls them" even gave her a new mattress and throw pillows, they spy on her through her hearing aids and phone. Its SO SO MUCH.. We just thank God she cant move the furniture. Her family physician....crickets, wont even address the situation with me. Help!!!!

My Dad is 88 years old and has dementia. He gets angry real quick. He has problems making sentences and trying to find the right words to communicate. He is fixated on blaming my bf for stealing his change and I have to tell him he didn’t take any of your change in a container. I feel stuck in the middle I’m his daughter. My dad called in an emergency the other day saying I need you to come to house right now I thought it was his health so I rush over there and he was so upset because he swore my bf who had been working in his house took two handful of change. It turned into a big argument between my dad and bf. I literally had to get in between them both. I’ve been getting depressed and anxiety from everything . I try to tell him know one is taking anything from your house. But he believes it in his heart and he gets so mad if I tell him it’s not true. How can I handle these situations?

My spouse who loves me very much accuses me of being selfish and calling me names that hurt. Then 10 minutes later he’s sweet again and it’s hard for me to let go of the hurt or anger immediately. I want to but it’s hard especially when he is being unreasonable

My dad's dementia is progressive. I think he's traveling through all the stages. Lately, he won't drink water, which caused him to be constipated regularly. How can I get him to drink water to avoid constipation?

Everytime it's time for my mom to take her medication, she has a fit. She has diabetes and high blood pressure but refuses to cooperate. She throws them at me or puts them in her mouth but holds it in her cheeks, then spits it into the sink. Uuugh so frustrating. She's going to give herself another stroke. Please help! My heart breaks every day.

I am th e76 year old cargiver of my 81 year old husband. I cannot take care of the equivalent of a 220 pound infant with out his cooperation and help. he does not know up from down, stiffens his arms and egs when I try to help guide him into sleeves, pants and so on. He is not often angry but is mainly uncooperative. I am physically entirely whipped! get up during the night o change a wet bed, cant turn mu back because he destroys or makes messes. not time to even go to the bathroom let alone shower myself. when I undress and dress and give him a shower, that pretty much does me in for the entire day. I have my own health issues, and no I cannot afford to put him in a facility that would cost120, 000 dollars a year more than twice our social security
