That was a very simple and easy way to understand how an antenna works. Thank you! I assume a cellphone booster just does the same thing. It receives with one antenna, amplifies it, then spits it back out another antenna? That way your cellphone "thinks" thinks its getting a stronger signal. Although that still clearly means that a cell phone booster is only as good as the signal it receives. But if you could get that cell phone booster's antenna (that's probably a bigger and better antenna) up a little higher, and outside your own house, it could make a big difference if the boosters transmit antenna is back in the house.

Nice explanation, Maybe you should have touched on wavelength.. The length of the wires can catch a specific radio frequency more efficiently, if it's the right length.. 2.4 ghz Wifi should be about 4.9 inches long..

At 3:14 , it is implied that the current is maximum at the sides of the antenna and minimum at the center, but it actually is the opposite , the maxiumum current fluctuation is at the center of the dipole and the maximum voltage fluctuation is at the sides of the dipole. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dipole_antenna

So if i understand correctly, a satelite radio antenna could work as a cel phone booster if there is a receiver?

Ok I have an old tv antenna on the house. Huge aluminum and not used for anything so I’m trying to figure out how to use that to get a stronger cell signal.. Other than that antenna what would I need? Old router? Repeater? Amplifier?

I bought a phone repeater with an external aerial. When I put an ohm resistance meter across the external antenna pins I am getting a 100% short circuit which is somewhat puzzling as the internal antenna and other similar aerials I have tried do not show a short. Having taken the cover off, it seems it is designed this way. The repeater doesn't work with it connected either, the LCD signal displays just flash but that could be lack of signal problems. How is this supposed to work shorted directly back to the earth side of the coax cable?

So I picked up 2 dipole antennas that are capable of 700 megahertz to 2100 megahertz send and receive I'm going to connect the two with 50 ohm coaxial cable one will be on the roof one is going to be in my home I understand that they'll induce signal with the dipole antenna. But what type of current do I need to put on there to have the signal jump out or will it do it by itself? and what type of current are we talkin? like can I put a coax DC converter in line? Would like a 12-volt current on there be enough?

Could you please explain how you can have current flow with an open circuit?
@johndoe-es7zh
@johndoe-es7zh 3 жыл бұрын
Is the energy flowing? Or is it just moving. What if you have a a cylindrical object and you put beads or marbles inside the cylinder. Well when you tilt the cylinder vertically up and down so that gravity flows the marbles in one direction towards gravity. Now rotate the cylinder 180 degrees and the beads will flow to the other end of the cylinder. If the reason a conductor allows electricity to flow along it is because it has 'loose' electrons if we change the balance of energy along the wire at one end with a relative positive at one end and a relative negative at another it will act as our shift in pull on the electrons generating a tendency for the electrons to cling to one side or another. Capacitors and inductors don't complete a circuit in a physical sense either but we use them to transfer electromagnetic energy regardless in a complete circuit. I'm not saying this is how this process works but just what I've been learning and gathering over time. Electricity is a lot less like water mechanically but a lot like it in how it transfers it's energy. Because how things transfer energy just seem to work in similar ways in certain frames of reference.

@@johndoe-es7zh *Capacitors and inductors don't complete a circuit in a physical sense* This comment is entirely incorrect! Capacitors do have current flowing until the plates are charged and then the current stops. What is left is a static charge of the plates. Inductors have current flowing through them and create an electromagnetic field. When the current is removed, the field collapses creating a reverse current flow until the fields are depleted or the inductor is reconnected...
@johndoe-es7zh
@johndoe-es7zh 3 жыл бұрын
@@valveman12 you're being a bit obtuse if you think that's what I'm saying. Electrons do not hop between one plate of a capacitor to another they actually rely on this fact. So what I was trying to point out to you is that maybe that isn't something that's required. And the balances and movement of charges is what is the primary motive force in electrical phenomena and the radio connected to the antenna creates the driving charge that produces the frequency.
@valveman12

@@johndoe-es7zh *_If being obtuse means correct an error, then I'm obtuse I guess._* *_Your Comment_* "Capacitors and inductors don't complete a circuit in a physical sense either but we use them to transfer electromagnetic energy regardless in a complete circuit. " Current does flow when a capacitor is charging. Not across the plates, but the electrons accumulate due to the attraction to the positive plate. Inductor, the current flows through it generating a magnetic field. Stop the current and the magnetic field collapses and the polarity of the coil changes. As for antennas, the high-frequency signal that is sent to the antenna is converted into Electromagnetic Waves. Efficiency is a function of impedance matching to obtain the best coupling for maximum output. Perhaps you know this already so I don't want to assume.

apparently it seems to me that you don't plug them into your phone. one antenna goes outside your building or in an area with a good signal. and it recieves the signal from outside and broadcast it inside without any need for a physical connection to your phone or power.

OMG, A spam video. Confusing false information about Coax. His Antenna theory explanation shows a lack of knowledge, and then, he spews out confusing information that does not give a watcher the basic information required. This is about the poorest explanation of how an antenna works that I've ever seen. Antenna radiation is as easy as well, watering the horse, stand close and your aim will help, radiation can be like a sprinkler, a spray , a mist or anything in between.
