I had to watch this video twice - but I managed to get the idea - a very good explanational video - thank you.

@ss7406 Solar vacuum tubes or evacuated tubes have absorber coatings which collect not only the visible spectrum of solar energy but also UV higher frequency/energy photons. Hence, even in cloudy weather it's still absorbing light efficiently. Cloudy weather alone does not really affect the "effectiveness", however two thing associated with cloudy weather do. I.e. 1) Cold weather, 2) lower intensity of light

Please can anyone tell ...where do I get such small size evacuated tube ..all I get a minimum of 1.5m tube!!
@junkmail2856010 жыл бұрын
I have been researching this a lot lately. For northern climates these tubes are more efficient because you get year around use. Southern climates go with flat panel. And also always plumb your flat panels so the fluid fills from the bottom to the top. Not top down as said in this video. See Dr. Ben Gravely.

hi, so in summary is like a steam generator?... and honestly, a quality solar panel vs this evacuated tubes, which one generates more energy??? (per square meter)
@orcoastgreenman6 жыл бұрын
TETOYVIENDO - neither one “generates” energy... both change radiant solar energy to another medium... in the case of solar thermal, heated fluid, and in the case of solar electric panels, electricity. Solar thermal is definitely more efficient than solar electric, which is lucky to get 20% of the usable power of solar irradiance to your outlets after losses in conversion at the panel, battery charging losses, storage losses, and losses during inversion from DC to AC. A solar thermal system can be closer to 100% efficient than 0%. Probably in the range of 50-80% depending on system design and usage. Solar thermal uses the heat energy and a portion of the light energy, without having to make multiple conversions of energy type.

If most of your electricity is used for heating the interior of a structure and domestic hot water, well designed solar thermal will absolutely be more efficient than solar electric. Solar thermal, in this format, however, will never run AC electrical devices. Each has their place, but anywhere heat up to 212F/100C is needed, solar thermal will be worlds more efficient.

Why can I not run water traight trough the tube?
@polok89011 жыл бұрын
at night, are they lunar coolers. they probably bring in an equal amount of cold at night
@avid0g6 жыл бұрын
polok890, no. These vacuum tubes & heat pipe combinations are one-way thermal. If the sun is not out for days, then the circulating fluid might freeze in spite of insulation. Drain-back systems avoid this.

How much does it cost to instal

You say that it flashes at 86degree. So basically one has to wait for flash before you get the heat out at 86 degree, so there is low level sun irradiation solar energy, which if below that, there is no hot water, because the heat tube, will not function until it hits 86 degree. So I don't have all the formulas and different substance specifics capacity and all in front of me so here basic principle that needs be proved otherwise I guess. What is the minimum solar irradiation, and desity for 86 degree flash, because that lowerly limit. Were as if you allow this to be double ended evaculator tube, were the water physically passed thought the collectors, then the water, could lay in there and basically boil to 50 degree, then be pump out or natural convection out the tubes. This would allow hot water at much lower temperatures than current heat tube designs with a heat pipe, because there is no band gap/ or minimum solar irradiation level, for heat to be conducted to water. So if you want to squeeze more hot water out, then better to direct heat the water and passthrough the middle of the evaluator tube. Just have like a double linkage system a the top and the bottom. I gather the current design of just because it was easy to push the tubes into the top solar tank , were that principle should be at the top and the bottom. The other thing is you would use less material, as only need the glass, don't need copy tubes in the middle, which means cheaper. So basically Double Header - Direct-flow evacuated-tube collectors, so only one glass channel in the middle of the evaluator tube.

Jim Martin because it would be expensive to the extreme. Also dangerous as it would have to be Mercury or a Mercury/Gallium alloy

Solar thermal systems of this type, are for warming home interiors and domestic hot water. If you want much higher temperatures, such as steam turbines, you go with solar concentrators.
