One adjustment. You note the religious symbolism on both flags. However, the crescent on the Turkish flag is not a reference to Islam, but a reference to the Ottomans. And the Ottoman use of the crescent pre-dates its use as a religious symbol. The use of the crescent as a religious symbol for Islam is derived from its use by the Ottomans.

Some inaccuracies: 1) Greece was the Empire of Alexander and not just a part of it. For this reason the era has since been called Hellenistic (Greek). Also, both populations were not part of Byzantium(East Rome) and Rome. The majority of the inhabitants of Turkey are of Turko-Mongolian and Arab origin. That is, there were no Turks in Rome and Byzantium. Byzantium(Graecorum imperium ,east Rome) was also in essence a Greek empire and not a simple part of it.Even the name Anatolia is greek means East province in Greek 2) Greece has an aging population but has one of the longest life expectancies in Europe. In other words, the Greeks live much longer than the Turks. 3) Greece has less population but much more homogeneous compared to Turkey which consists of dozens of ethnic groups. 4) Greece typically has 98% Christians and not 81% as the video say. These Christians are all Greek Orthodox. On the contrary, Turkey has many important sects such as the Alevis, who number over ten million. 5) flag of modern turkey was the flag of Greek Byzantium city state which became Constantinople in Roman times.... Thus the pagan symbol passed to the Islamic world after the fall of the city.

@G_Sachs Жыл бұрын
Mr. Erdogan recently said that Turkey can not talk with Greece because Greece can not compare with Turkey in political, economic and military level!... Greece fully agree with these views because: 1) In political level Greece is a Western Democracy with an open free society that respects fully the fundamental Human Rights and there is total freedom of speech and not at all censorship in Mass Media, there are legal socialist and communist parties, the Justice system is independent etc etc! In contrast Turkey is a dictatorship of islamofasistic type with a strictly controlled society by the state police and the secret security, thousands of adversaries of the Erdogan's status are in jail tortured and kept under barbarian conditions, the Justice system is not independent from the government, there is absolute censorship of turkish Mass Media (many Media businesses have been closed and their journalists are in jail or without job), there are not allowed to operate socialist or communist parties for representing the poor labor workers or working in agriculture, the fundamental human rights are infringed etc 2) in Economic Level Greece has significantly recovered from the Economic crisis, she belongs to European Union having a hard and stable currency (Euro), Greece has a vast EEZ with enormous quantities of Natural Gus in the Cretan Sea and Ionian Sea (natural gus and oils), the EastMed pipeline for transfering all these huge quantities and selling them to Europe (along with Cyprus, Israel and Egypt) will be ready in 2025, Greece have a very high scientific human capacity and the majority of Greeks follow University and College studies and after that postgraduate degrees, there is a considerable increase of the National Product and Income, the Greeks have sufficient buying power, the middle classes are very large percentage while the proletarian classes are very small, in Greece a great large percentage of families and individuals have got at least one or two cars etc etc In Contrast Turkey's Economy now is after 20 years of Erdogan's government a real drama, the Turkish people in their majority are starving, the Inflation Rate is officially 80% but the real unofficial rate touched 200% (!), the toilet-paper has more worth than turkish lira, Turkey has no notable recources of natural gus or oils (for propaganda reasons the Erdogan's status said that they found beds in Black Sea but all these have insignificant quantities related to Greece or Democracy of Cyprus vast stocks!. Moreover the salaries of the average Turk employee is the ONE TENTH of the Greek average employee, the status of life of Turks retired people are tragic compared to Greek retired people, the average meat consumption is also dramatic for average Turkey's family (once a week mostly chickens and very rare veal or lamp meat when in Greece veal,lamp,pork etc are consumed 3-4 times a week), etc etc 3) in Military level Greece has absolute superioriority in Hard Power of her Airforce (Upgraded F-16 Vipers and new Rafales with Meteor missiles and Mica, after 2026 are coming F-35, many new weapons for F-16 and Mirages as the Israeli Rampage, the new block of antiship Harpoon missiles, Attack Helicopters Appaches with airborne Spike NLOS antitank and anti-craft missiles 50km range plus light attack helicopters with Hellfire, new SCALP EG and EXOCETS missiles, new anti-radar missiles etc) and in Navy (new fregates Bel@aras with unique capabilities in their electronic systems, the new Eurocorvettes, new missile boats Rousen Class, Gunships with Spice NLOS missiles, new fast boats for SEALS formidable underwater commando units with Spike NLOS, new best of the world antisubmarine helicopters MH-60 Romeo, the formidable submarines U-214 with new long range untraceble torpidoes, new UAV for Navy ships, new anti-air Aster missiles 130 km range on fregates etc etc In Land Forces there are the best tanks the famous Leopard 2HEL, the antitank units with Spike NLOS 32 km range antitank israeli missiles, the Special Forces of Greece that are ranked as First in a recent NATO exercise (when Turkish special Force team were ranked in the last rank and left the 7-day exercize the 4th day because of their ridicule "inventing" a groundless excuse!.. At the same time the superiority of Greek scientists from Greek and Foreign Univercities and Recerch Centers and Technological firms prepare new pioneering UAVs and UCAVs with unique technical characteristics. Greece has the best anti-air missile systems in density and of all ranges (long, middle and short) in Europe! If we take into consideration that GREECE has military Aggreements with France, UAE and USA for mutual military assistance not only on the field but also for fast replenishments of war materials, for aircraft and navy parts as well as for real time Information for targeting purpose from their vast satellite's and spies nets plus the secret agreements with Israel with the excellent Mosad secret service and her intelligence nets and Egypt with the 2 Mistral Class Heicopter Carriers (MEDUSSA exercises...) etc etc plus to all above the superior Greek IQ in Strategy then one could realise what is going to happen to Turkey! It is obvious that Greece after destroying in 48 hours the TUAF and Turkish Navy can advance and gain Eastern Thrace and the Straits! The turkish tanks and other vehicles will be only sitting ducks for Greek Airforce, helicopters, antitank units and Leopards 2HEL After all, Mr. Erdogan is right! There is no comparison now between GREECE and the "mighty" Turkey with such an inferior political, economic and military status!

Characteristics of the Byzantine Empire After its capital was established in the east, the empire became, in scholarly parlance, the Eastern Roman Empire. Furthermore, because Constantine and all of his successors (except Julian the Apostate, 361 63) were Christians, the empire from here on can also be called the Christian Roman Empire. As a consequence of these two changes the Roman Empire had become the Byzantine. However, though used by scholars, none of these three names was used at the time. Though the empire had its center in a Greek cultural and linguistic area, as a result of which there followed a gradual hellenization of its institutions and culture, the emperors recognized no change. The empire remained the Roman Empire and the citizens (even though Greeks came to domi nate it) still called themselves Romans. The term Hellene (Greek) connoted a pagan. The term Byzantine was an invention of Renais sance scholars after the fall of the Byzantine Empire and was never used by its contemporaries. By the middle of the seventh century Greek had become the official language of all spheres of government and the army; nevertheless the empire remained "Roman" and despite divisions of its territory at times it was always seen as a single unit. Essentially the Byzantine Empire was a combination of three major cultural components: (1) Roman in political concepts, administration. law, and military organization. (2) Greek in language and culture, and (3) Christian in religion. Fine, J., 1991. The early medieval Balkans. Ann Arbor: The University of Michigan Press, p.16.

THE RISE OF MACEDONIA UNDER KING PHILIP II (359-336 BC) The Macedonians were a neighboring people in the northern Aegean who spoke a language that was similar to Greek yet apparently unintelligible to Greek speakers. After long existence as an Aegean backwater, Macedonia emerged in the mid-fourth century BC to become the most powerful state in the region and eventually the entire eastern Mediterranean world. Over time Greek colonization and military hegemony in the wider Aegean resulted in Hellenic cultural diffusion: the process of assimilation was slow, but by the early fourth century BC the Macedonian royal court had made several significant advances. With its dispersed rural population Macedonia also possessed a greater capacity for military manpower than any individual Greek city-state. Were these resources ever harnessed by an effective king, Macedonia's potential as an Aegean power was considerable.

She answered me without hesitation: "George, life in Turkey is like what we see in the old greek movies of 1950 played sometimes in some greek TV channels! Nothing modern as in today Greece! There is no equality between men and women, there exist very poor people and great economic differances among classes, the majority of people is poor proletarian workers or working in agriculture, there is no a major percentage of middle class as we in Greece and other EU States, there is no communist or socialist legal political parties for representing the poor working people, their salaries even of graduates or postgraduates are the one tenth of our Greek Salaries so guess the earnings of the majority which is uneducated and unskilled labor, the pensions are so law and humiliating for old people life even for retired teachers or professors in relation to us, their Mass Media (news papers, private and public TV channels and Internet sites) are not free to write their real views because there is a crude state censorship, their justice system and jails conditions has not made significant progress since the time of "Midnight Express" movie (!) beating and torturing without mercy the unlucky prisoners (!), their weekly family food diet does not include sufficient meat quantities and at least 3 or 4 kinds of different cheeses as usually found in greek family refrigerators due to small earnings and heavy inflation (now unofficial rate of 200%), the turkish families don't use fine oils as we do in Greece who use 95% the virgin olive oil but they use mainly second or third class seed oils or fat unhealthy butters in their daily food, the relations between a man and a woman many times is a real drama because the majority of Turks men consider a woman (even if they have just an affair with her) as their pet-property (!!!), their average Educational Level is very law in relation to Greek Youth where here the majority of young people study in Universities and Colleges and a 60% follow a Master degree in Greece or Abroad, their average ideology even of the young people is too narrow and due to islam religion is not open-minded as ours in Greece, they have deify any corps or men wearing uniforms or battle dresses and believe blindly every propaganda, the turkish people still are afraid to look into the eyes the men of Gendarmerie and Policemen, the average family can not afford Summer Vacations for 2 weeks to a good seaside Hotel, the average turkish family can not afford as we in Greece at least once a week eating out in an expensive restaurant or a good taverna, the average family there do not know what means a theater play, there is no feeling and air of real Freedom among turkish people not even in turkish elit class!... etc etc So there are in Turkey many more differances in relation to the modern life in Greece's Free Society.

Greece Pros - Eastern Gate of the EU for Trade, Pipelines, and businesses (massive potential to capitalize on this) - Massive Tourism Industry for the size of the country - Strategic mountainous and easy to defend geography - A well respected, stable and trustworthy democratic nation - A united largely homogenous and well educated population/work force Cons - Thousands of islands are very expensive to maintain, as there is a need for tens or hundrends of ports, airports, and other infrustructure to support them, let alone supply them. - Mountainous country makes building transportation infrastructure hard to develop and expensive - Relatively small and aging population - Corruption is somewhat high - The economy although fast recovering from the crisis is still not very good. - The need to field and pay for a massive military force (for its size) to defend from Turkey. Turkey Pros - Large and relatively young population - Large and somewhat easy to defend geographical location, especially the wealthier regions in Eastern Anatolia. - A strong manufacturing sector, and a very promising economy - An unflinching pull of international investors to the economy, despite recent problems. - Strong Armed forces and defence industry guarantee the nation's safety - A large Tourism industry Cons - Economy although promising, still needs alot of work. - Overly aggressive geopolical maneuvering has made its surrounding neighbours and allies distrustful and less eager to cooperate. - A not very homogenous population, unrest is frequent. - Massive eastern border is very hard to secure and defend - A not so stable democracy with an increased danger of military coups. - Massive and mountainous geography makes developing transportation infrastructure expensive and difficult. - Corruption is somewhat high
