It's been said, "A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work". However, it's always nice to catch something. Catching bluegill, on a fly rod, or an ultra-light with a bubble, is a blast. And, yes, good cover/habitat makes all the difference.

When you got stabbed by the fin spines it reminded me of a short conversation I had. A lady asked if I would want a hook in my mouth and I told her it wasn't a fair comparison. If we ate stuff like nails and broken glass, our mouth wouldn't feel the same. Fish eat crustaceans, other fish and if they felt pain like we would if hooked, they'd starve.

Yes I'm a devout Bluegill enthusiast. Both Fly Fishing ,spin casting, even old fashioned cane pole with quill bobber cricket, worms, and minnows, works for me in hollow stumps and fallen logs. Weed lines, undercut banks beneath shoreline trees, rocks, boat docks, good places to look. If water doesn't have much natural structure toss in some Christmas trees, cement blocks, cut off some tree limbs weight them down toss them in. Wooden objects like old dresser drawer frames without the drawers in them, old wood barrels, start Lilly pads in wood containers and sink them to the bottom. Same with Johnson grass ,Cattails, any vegetation. You'll have a wonderful fishing hole in no time.

Pretty sure I am not allowed to dump all of that stuff into the water at the park...

I like the fish to be feisty and defiant but I like it even better when they're aggressive and in the fighting mood. I'd rather fight a fish all the way to the boat and lose it than catch a fish that hardly fights and gets boated really easily. The easy fish aren't that exciting. This time of year the largemouth bass often act like smallmouth bass, when they're hooked. It's a lot of fun trying to keep the hook in them, when they keep busting up out of the water and shaking their heads. Tight lines and rod tips up. 😉🎣🤠

Went to my local lake today and there were people standing shoulder to shoulder fishing. Here in WV they are letting all residents fish without a license or registration for your boat until this is over. Went to two different places and didn’t even get out of the truck. Shoulder to shoulder on the bank and 50 -60 boats on a 200 acre lake
