As a teen, a friend and I spent a few years culling a stunted pond full of small bluegill. We would catch hundreds of small ones a day and pitch them in the woods for the raccons. Although earth worms were a bait of choice we were literally at times catching them off bare hooks About five years later we were landing much larger ones, including some hybrids. We also noticed an increase in the bass population. Somehow as kids and from reading countless fishing magazines we had an intuition what needed to be done to turn that pond around. It took a few years but absolutely worked.

When I was growing up my family grew crickets commercially and sold them over a large area. Our cricket buckets weren't the ones you buy at the bait shops, they were 5 gallon buckets with screen wire stapled over large holes cut in the sides. When we went fishing the way we found the big ones was to literally toss a handful of bugs on the water. If the big ones didn't start popping them pretty quickly we moved on to a different spot. I always had a rig ready with a hook and no weight. When we tossed the crickets in I'd toss my line in the bunch. Never failed to get me hooked up, that topwater action was a blast.

Wonder how sardines or anchovies would work.
@TBassFactory Жыл бұрын
That’s a good Question. They might work pretty good but never used them
@skrimper Жыл бұрын
Gonna try anchovies today and I'll let ya know. I imagine it's gonna be hard to keep them on the hook. Those little dried fish from Asian markets would probably be a better option

Hello. I’m new to your channel and I’m brand new to fishing. Why do you hold the fishing pole line like you did on your 2nd cast??
@TBassFactory6 ай бұрын
I taught myself without watching videos and I pitched a lot at crappie on the river doing it just like that. Way more accurate and never have to move my hands

Does anyone eat bluegill. Yummy. Salt cornmeal and a hot pan of peanut oil
@TBassFactory Жыл бұрын
Yes! They are delicious! My favorite way is descaled filet in half put some butter inside and mayo on outside wrap in foil and throw on the grill.
@kevindouglas20606 ай бұрын
A little bit of pepper too.

.... Bluegill and panfish of the like are one of the largest consumed fish in this country, caught naturally😮

1/16oz lure is best in my opinion for bluegill

Doesn't handling fish with dry hands harm them?
@TBassFactory Жыл бұрын
I haven’t noticed any negative side effects from handling them
@robertschmidt9296 Жыл бұрын
@@TBassFactory it's my understanding that the protective lining on fish will cling to dry hands thus leaving them open to infection. I knew an old man who would buy fish to stock his pond. He quit buying from one kid because most of the fish died. Turns out the kid was handling the fish with dry hands and refused to stop. I can't say for certain that this is true but I do believe it.
@TBassFactory Жыл бұрын
@@robertschmidt9296 I believe ya Robert. I’ve fished with minnows for years and putting your hands in the bucket too much will kill them so there is something to that.
