Assuming that we are going for reliability first: Given that the AFR for maximum power is probably 12.5~13.5:1, richer mixtures are more for cooling and reliability. Could we use water injection for forced induction engines instead of richer mixture to achieve the same cooling effects? Is it possible to work out how much water we need to inject? Would something like EGT be a good gauge to tell whether our thermal management is in the safe window? Another thing to consider is, would it be beneficial to run the coolant at a lower temp like 80°C instead of 90°C to help in thermal management? How do we arrive at what temp to run? My 4 stroke car engines are usually around 95°C, but my 125cc 2T race kart engines runs coolant at 55°C How about using colder spark plugs? How do we quantify how much is safe or still unsafe?

Interesting, though we never see this real testing on either engine dyno or wheel dyno. We see a much smaller window of air fuel ratios no matter the application. At 11:1 n/a engines simply won't make anywhere near their potential and over 13.5:1 the same. Typical ranges we see are 12.3 to 13.1 on the extreme ends. Of course, type of fuels, compression, combustion chamber efficiency, and on and on dictate where the engine runs best, and the dyno absolutely is a great tool to get this in the right area.
@angelamartim83372 ай бұрын
I've got a question please. If a richer mixture is used to keep the temps down, then why more fuel is used right after cold starts? Shouldn't it be the other way around for cold starts?
@EFIU_Ben2 ай бұрын
Great question! So, only the vaporized fuel will burn, and it takes warmer temps to convert from liquid to vapor, so when the engine is cold, it requires more total fuel volume to be supplied so that enough of it will convert to vapor in order to get the engine up and running and keep it running so that it can generate some heat to warm up…as the engine temps come up, the extra fuel isn’t required so no need to waste it by continuing to add extra!
@HPFarm3 ай бұрын
Ben got a question, @ 15:39 ish you say using more fuel to make same power at WOT, but then state BSFC went down. Shouldn't it go up? 150 #/hr / 300 HP = 0.5 vs 200 #/hr / 300 HP = .6
@EFIU_Ben3 ай бұрын
Sorry…what I meant was the level of efficiency for BSFC “has gone down” meaning it’s not as good…. I see how my choice of words could have been misleading there making it seem like I meant “got smaller” which wasn’t my intended meaning. Thanks for the catch!

It's 2024 - you ought to produce videos in 4K but the bare absolute minimum is 1080p - or the compromise - 1440p. 720p is 20 years outdated by now and feels weird to watch ;) Great video apart from that, hope to see more in the style and fashion of this one!

I refreshed because I thought there was a bug. Turns out it literally is just 720p. That was pretty disappointing. Even most phones are higher pixel count that 720p, kinda unacceptable. 1080p is bare minimum.

I truly respect what you do, but there are so many erroneous statements, implicit assumptions, and bad logic in this video. It's good to be familiar with prior art, but you need to work with best practices. Materials, sensors, computing power, and our collective understanding have come a LONG way in 103 years! There are plenty of PhD who don't understand what goes on inside the black box.
