Thanks for your tips and all those amazing videos ! I have been learning almost 8 months and made two websites based on whatever I learnt. But I have not yet published my sites as I am afraid anybody could copy those and make their own sites as my codes are only html, css, basic javascript and jquiery. How can then I showcase my works to an employer if I am being afraid people can showcase my work and get the job before I am being ready to apply!!!!!!!! Thanks Erik if you can give me your suggestions here.

This link shows that 75% of those with a tech degree cant find a tech job and salaries in the field have not gone up in 18 years. Thats the definition of a dying occupation. www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2014/07/27/bill-gates-tech-worker-wages-reforms-employment-column/13243305/

At what age did you get your first web developement job?
@ProgramWithErik5 жыл бұрын
It was probably in college, I got an internship doing Java development. I didn't really get my first real web development gig until after college.

@@ProgramWithErik Hey Eric, I live in Russia, and I'm 16. I finished a high school and decided not to go to college since here there not teaching you a lot and it's not a good spend of time. I have really good learning ability, I finished 2 last years of school in 1. I'm learning programming for almost a year. I have a really good knowledge of JS, Vue (vuex, vue-router) and Node / Express. I feel really confident about my skills and I know that I can get a job done. But when I apply for a jobs I can't get through a gatekeeper. Usually HR's calls me and ask a few questions and when they ask my age and I tell them, they usually say that they need to clarify some things and they'll call me back if they interested in me. And nothing happens after that. What advise could you give me, because under the law, there's no problem to hire someone who is 16+, the only thing is that the job must not be harmful and you can't work more than 35h/week.

I'm 17 and still in college in the UK, no bachelors degree. I have a strong desire to code and am quite experienced in designing and copying webpages from scratch. Is it possible for someone like me to get a job when I'm this young/no qualifications?
@nicolasgomez52073 жыл бұрын
Did you end up getting a job? im 19 and have an ok portfolio
@jordanh58343 жыл бұрын
@@nicolasgomez5207 I'm 21 now :) I managed to get an apprenticeship in the end, but fell out of love with software development. So I changed careers and became a filmmaker. I would recommend university or/and entry-level jobs if possible.

Could i face any problems with getting a job if i am 18 yo?
@pentsk43027 жыл бұрын
How about 14?
@ProgramWithErik7 жыл бұрын
It'll be harder for sure, but if you're persistent and driven, you can definitely get your foot in the door. You might need to start with grunt work, but we've all been there at 18.

Program With Erik I question whether I am lol. seriously though I am learning. sometimes my brain just doesnt want to absorb the info though so it makes it more difficult and I end up glossing over a part and failing tests lol.

Same here. I watched this video and now there are many other videos on the right which distracts me.

I did the same thing for the first 6 months learning JavaScript and it slowed my progress down, I would watch a video then the next day forget half of what I learnt because I didn't apply it in the real world. So copy every code example you see whether from a book or video, this is what will make the information stick. Then once you feel comfortable with the topic, rinse and repeat.

Hey Erik, great video. When applying for jobs, does it take hundred of applications getting sent out before getting a response? I have a strong Portfolio (templenaylor.com) and Resume but find a hard time getting responses. Is this normal?

Erik Hanchett hey Erik, I actually just tweaked my resume and did the whole thing over with some other developers help. I would love sending it to you and you tell me what you think if that's okay!

Really ?? U are asking jobless people buy the stuff u promote?? really??
@ProgramWithErik7 жыл бұрын
Yup! I stand by everything I recommend and sell! But, this is free and optional content. No one is forcing you to buy anything.
@kickjagga7 жыл бұрын
have seen your other videos. where you promote these products as well, and its good that you promote useful stuff. But in this particular video i found it funny because As per the title, this video is basically for jobless people with no experience, are less likely to have enough money to spend on these stuff. :D I did not mean that you are doing the wrong thing. No offence. U make good videos. Keep up the good work.
