I feel she does seem different this year. Doing this work outside of her work in the gym and class is so commendable.

This is really interesting stuff. But there was always going to be envy to some degree. I guarantee that there were thousands of young women that would have loved to have the chance to be Caitlin’s teammates. The thing is, she picked this team. Everyone wants to tell you how good this team is and you are, but I agree with Caitlin, great teams don’t just happen, they’re built with great dedication. Everyone says that Caitlin shoots too much. But I’ve watched every game (multiple times) and too many times Caitlin ends up with the shot clock counting down and nobody else seems to want to take the shot. When they become dependent on her to take the shot all the time, that just puts more pressure on her. When they all start believing in their own game, then they have a chance to be great.

It seems to me that a team would have very specific shared goals. Assuming this, each team member must have their own expectations for themselves regarding their roles to accomplish the shared goals. In this way, you are simply reminding them that your expectation is that they remember their declared commitment to the goal. Even then, a production expectation is not the important thing, It is an effort and attitude expectation around that shared goal.

This is so odd… he’s shaming her for being mad, which is a normal experience but then shaming her for not believing in her teammates more? This doesn’t make sense. Next time she gets mad, which she still frequently does (understandably!), she doesn’t know what to do with it because he hasn’t taught her to communicate it differently…
