I also went with 2 x 100w panels due mainly to availability. But I have a plan to possibly in the future to fit a switch to allow one to charge the leisure battery while the second charges a power pack.

Very nice installation. Planning a van build next year and will be going down a similar route, I love the idea of a portable power pack rather than one that is fixed in a vehicle, you never know when you might need portable power for example in the shed.

Hi Colin I notice on your You Tube Video you was removing the old adhesive strips. The Easiest and best way to remove this and it will not mark your paintwork on your Van is to get and old number plate cut it into a small strip then create a slight slanted Edge and hey presto you have a tool that will remove old adhesive off the bodywork on your van or it will remove old stickers of the bodywork and will even remove old stickers off the windows without scratching the window only thing you have to do is have a spray bottle handy with water in it wet the surface and away you go with a new created tool I have used this idea for years. Cheers Alan Pridmore.

Hi Colin somewhere you mentioned a splitter to power the portable power bank as well as the leisure battery from the solar power so bought some. I'm thinking if I just plugged straight into the cigarette lighter to charge the power bank instead of tapping into the solar supply this would maybe do the same as I can't get my head around the connections. The positive is female and also the positive two splitter ends

Had my van just over a year and have taken on a fair few mods - to be fair, many after I’ve seen you take them on Colin! You’re like my T6 guinea pig giving me confidence to have a dabble! Solar I don’t have and have considered DIY and your last install made me kick the decision down the road. This video confirms to me, I just don’t know enough about electrics. So alas I reckon a paid professional job for me. But as for a portable generator - possibly with portable solar panels - maybe thats my answer. In which the #ecoflow would be right up my street! Fingers crossed!

Being a lady of a certain generation when women were taught sewing, cooking etc, I never learnt DIY stuff much to my disappointment but I love watching your videos when you do stuff to your van - a lot of it goes over my head but I still find it fascinating! At least it gives me a bit more understanding of how my own (obv. not self build) van works. Thanks for all your videos (especially with Branston - and the “girls”). 💕🐾

Great video, there is however a couple of things I don't understand, looking at the wiring diagram 1) if you have a fuse on both positive terminals why would you need to fit an isolation switch (Is that overkill) 2) Why do the cables run to both the car and Lesure batteries, from the split charger MPPT? I thought the flow diagram or normal setup is first charge the car battery when it's fully charged 12v the surplus voltage goes to the leisure battery
@Yorkshirepoptopadventures Жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, it's totally overkill having an isolation switch too mate, 😀 I just wanted to cover all possibilities (incase the fuse failed) The wiring set up for the CTEK is the way has to be wired up. For example the solar pannels go directly to the CTEK (solar input) to charge the leisure battery (which I think also charges the car battery once the leisure battery is fully charged (controlled by the built in MPPT in the CTEK). The car battery is connected to the CTEK as that also charges the leisure battery when the car is running. Hope this helps bud
