My PV systems peaks at over 40 kWh/day in May, and stays over 30 kWh/day (for sunny days) from April until mid-October, but on days I don't need the AC, I'll only use about 17 kWh/day. So if the AC isn't on my battery backup, and the grid is down, would it just shut down the PV and run on battery only, or can the PV continue to power the house and save the full battery for after the sun goes down?

If your grid tie thinks there is power on the line and it still produces voltage how does it not energize the power line then?
@iceBergL2 жыл бұрын
I’m not really sure on electric coding, but probably though an auto ac disconnect between the main panel and your grid tie inverter so that doesn’t happen.

When grid goes down, why would only sub panel circuits receive power from secondary inverter/battery storage. Since sub panel is connected to both AC output from hybrid AND main panel, shouldn’t main panel circuits also continue to receive power when grid goes down?
@NAZSolarElectric Жыл бұрын
Generally, it's for safety reasons. When the grid goes down, we can't have grid-connected power systems energizing the grid while the utility company is working on getting it fixed. So the solar system isolates the sub panel from the main service panel to prevent energy from back-feeding the grid. This is why we tell customers to connect all their important loads to the sub panel. In the event of a power outage, the solar system will disconnect from the main service panel while continuing to power all the loads connected to the sub panel. Once the system detects that the grid power is back, it will reconnect to the main service panel. This video might also be helpful for you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJbVfWB5fsmne80

A diagram is a must. The sub-panel is connected to the main panel with cables obviously. So when the GRID goes down, why is the sub-panel disconnected from the main panel. What makes that happen? Do you manually flip the breaker to the sub-panel?

I have a grid tie system feeding into a 200 amp meter box. I also have a 23000watt generator with an ATS (AutoTransSwitch) between the meter and the main 200 amp breaker box. How would I introduce a battery backup system that would kick in before the generator just like a computer backup system (no wait time) but still have the generator kick in should the batteries fall below a certain level?
@NAZSolarElectric Жыл бұрын
Sol-Ark. The 15K-2P is specifically designed to support this type of application. Grid feeds one side of the inverter, gen feeds another, and the inverter output feeds your dedicated loads (or the home). The inverter is multimodal, so it will isolate from the grid in the event of grid failure and defer loads to battery+solar power and it can start the generator if the batteries get too low. This video might be helpful. Our team can assist as well and provide you with options and estimates. sales@solar-electric.com, 1.800.383.0195 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXPYZ4ZqdtqLjrc

Does your on grid inverter have an off grid function. You can just put it to off grid turn off the circuit breaker from grid and enjoy an off grid system till the power comes back on and your reverse the modes back.?

This is the first understandable description I've found of what I want to do with my existing solar setup here in RI. I'd love to see a schematic, and I have one question at this stage: Is there a way to automatically disconnect from the grid when it's down (and reconnect when it's back up)? If my array and batteries are hot I don't want to have my lines to the outside world powered while utility company crews are working to reconnect me.

If you are not consuming all of the energy being produced by the PV modules and you have disconnected from the grid so it would not back feed into the grid does the excess energy produced damage components?
@NAZSolarElectric3 жыл бұрын
Hi Freddy, no it doesn’t damage anything. The solar array can produce max power or no power or anything in between at anytime without causing any issues. Thanks for the question!

Dear friend.I have installed 3 x 2 KW SUN on grid inverter with limiter.They work fine.BUT.when city Grid goes off then finito.I do wonder.Can I not create my personal grid so inverters smell that exists voltage of 220 Volt with frequency 50 Hz.using 3 mirrors and 1 KW off grid inverter with a small battery????In case that the city grid goes off.Can i not use in the 3 inverters the same input from the off grid inverter.Note...that despite the fact i have a three phase city grid voltage i never use the advantage of the 3-phase voltage.I never have a 3-phase motor.Note also that i will use a transfer switch to discriminate the actual voltage source of the house.Position 1 city grid. Position 2 .My personal Grid.I would respect your expert opinion.Thanking you in advance my friend.cheerio

Hello good afternoon thank you for producing this video I am located in Prescott Arizona question for you is I am running an off-grid system along with a grid-tie system I have read a few places that really don't make sense to me but I'm throwing it out there. If I feed my grid-tie inverter with my off-grid inverter to simulate a grid signal I have heard that if the grid tie inverter produce is too much power at that time it will have nowhere to direct the extra power which would normally go back onto the grid. My thoughts are it would just be energy lost but I have heard that the excess energy would harm the grid tie inverter. I am just under the impression it's based on Ohm's law whatever load is connected is the power that will be consumed the additional power will not be transferred anywhere is that correct

What if I want to have a battery to power all my devices to use my overproduction from the day?
@arekd97693 жыл бұрын
look at Australians- You can use small offgrid inverter/Ups as a grid signal and then battery which voltage is in mppt range of ongrid inverter. This will allow you to use same inverter as a backup for household!

Pretty much what I do, I use a gridtie to offset the load on my portable power stations, it does some decent things conserving how many charge cycles I use on them.
@tota53 жыл бұрын
the way you layed it down seems like it would back feed the grid during the outtage, what am i missing here?
@NAZSolarElectric3 жыл бұрын
Anti-islanding protection is required for UL1741 / IEEE 1547. Any legitimate inverter that interacts with the grid via a standard Grid-tied or ESS solution will be required to have UL1741 listing by an NRTL and thus will monitor the grid for inconsistency and/or interruption and immediately disconnect from source (GRID).
@tota53 жыл бұрын
@@NAZSolarElectric but the other inverter is there to trick the grid tied into sprinting back to action, and it's ac coupled, so now it has access to the grid cable! It still feels like I'm missing something here

Does Outback Skybox incorporate both gridtie inverter and battery inverter?
@NAZSolarElectric4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it both GT inverter and Battery Based inverter. SkyBox installs like a grid-tied inverter, but with support for energy storage, which is easy to install later. A fully integrated design eliminates external charge controllers and communication boxes, significantly cutting solar + energy storage installation time and cost. EMS 2.0 takes the guesswork out of battery installation. It supports external CTs and stacking multiple Skyboxes in parallel, each with their own battery. SkyBox intelligently measures and controls power to and from any connection point (utility, solar, battery, generator and load), dynamically optimizing energy distribution, consumption and utilization-perfecting the way power is created, consumed, stored and sold. With SkyBox you can leverage the economic benefits of energy storage for time-of-use optimization and peace of mind backup power. Not ready for batteries? Install SkyBox now and add energy storage later.
