How do I play chords with the fiddle on a tune I don't know?

A student named CA asked me during office hours, "How do I play chords with the fiddle on a tune I don't know?"
When you don’t know the tune, you can play along if you know how to play some simple chords. On the fiddle, we can play two-note chords called double stops.

Thanks so much for you videos, I always learn something. I'll have to watch the webinar - I'm not sure I get the D1/G as a C chord.

Since the C is made up of the C,E and G notes, your D1 which is an E, and the G can make your C chord. It's easier than using the third finger on the C of the G string to make the chord.
