How Do I Read and See as a Blind Man?
In this video, I explain my vision and the ways in which I read and also see things whilst out and about.
Most blind people have some level of residual vision, and there are great technologies around to enhance the remaining vision they have, as well as for those with no vision whatsoever.
I hope you like the video, and have found it informative. If you are Blind/Low Vision, how do you read?
If you are sighted - were you aware that blind/low vision people can still "read" "see things"?
If there are any questions, or you would like to know how I do other things as a registered blind man, please let me know in the comments below:

Very informative video, Terry! I had never heard of the Orcam before now, it seems very brilliant. I love your message at the end! In my area there is a 20 mile long running and biking trail that many people use. Many times that I have gone to exercise I see an elderly lady using her cane walking down the trail. She’s always smiling and enjoying her time out, which makes me happy to see. Every video you post is always a surprise, but the topics are always great. Keep up the good work!

So pleased I watched your video Terry. As a Guide Dog puppy walker, I’ve been following your exploits with Spencer since he came to live with you and have loved watching the way that you learn from each new experience. For me, it is fascinating (and humbling) to understand how you have embraced technology to lead a full and varied life. I realise that your very positive outlook on life is your strength and hope that other visually impaired people can be inspired by you.

Nic, thank you so much for your lovely comment. I do, and have had my down days with sight loss, but, I do truly believe that a positive mind brings positive outcomes. Technology has been an huge part, I think of me feeling like I am able to do what I want to do, instead of feeling some things are out of reach. I must do a video soon about the lovely Spencer :-). Thanks so much for watching and also following re: Spencer and I

Hi Terry, I can’t believe that I’ve only just started watching your videos. I know you’ve commented on my videos before. But I must be slow or something. I didn’t realise you had a channel of your own with lots of videos. Great video! I thought about getting an all cam. Anyway I’m definitely now a subscriber. And will continue to watch your videos. Keep up the good work. I have been following your photos on Facebook. But I’m glad that I found your videos now as well. Have a great day

Hi Terry, I am also an Orcam user and absolutely love my device. I find the Orcam a lot easier to use than some of the apps for the smart phones. When I first got my Orcam, I was amazed to find that I was able to read a story book to my nephew which is something I’ve always wanted to be able to do. I can read Braille, but braille books are not fun for a child to look at. I have been blind since birth, so I’ve found it interesting to hear your experiences of losing your site and how you have come to terms with it. Also, good luck with your new guide dog. I used to be a guide dog owner myself and I’m hoping to apply for another one once we can get back to some sort of normality.

Hi Craig. Firstly, apologies for not getting back to you sooner . I dont know why im missing some comment notifications! Oh, thats brilliant that you have the orcam too - isn't it just amazing - and yes, a lot better than some of the apps for sure. The first time I used it in a restaurant, was a bit of a shocker - I was desperate to read a menu for myself, and popped the orca on, and pointed to the menu - what I didnt realise was that it was a little dark for it to read it, so the brilliantly bright light on it, suddenly came on and lit up the whole table lol - I didnt want to draw attention to myself, but my partner said everyone looked up, because they thought I was taking photos with my flash lol Thats so lovely to hear that you got to read a book t0 your nephew, and its things like this that just make it so worthwhile isn't it. I bet it felt incredible, and your nephew would have loved it just as much as you did, im sure. I didnt think I would come to terms with it initially Craig, and got myself into a real low - but, with determination ( eventually ) and lots of support, thankfully, I have realised I can still live a full and happy life, doing most of the things I loved anyway, but just in a different way. I bet you have noticed a real difference over the years with how technology has come on and made things easier for people. thank you for your lovely comments, and for stopping by - im pleased you liked the video, and thats great to hear that you are thinking of going back onto the waiting list for another guide dog, as you say, when these crazy times have settled! all the very best to you Craig -0 stay safe and well Terry
