If you suspect that the popcorn ceiling was put on before 1980 then it may contain asbestos. The video says to scrape it off and test a small sample. What they fail to tell you is that you really need to wet that down before scraping it so if it is asbestos that dust doesn't get everywhere. Spray a small amount of water on the area and scrape it into a ziplock bag and seal it up. Wouldn't hurt to have a respirator on while doing this as well just in case some residual dust gets in the air and then vacuum the area afterwards. After all you are working from the top down so stuff can fall. Just a safety recommendation...

If you put one long plastic sheet on the whole floor, then afterwards you could just take all the corners of the plastic and fold them together to make almost like a plastic bag of sorts, making the cleanup much easier.

I removed my popcorn ceiling and a buddy let me use a scarper that you can attach a bag so it wont make a mess. Made it much easier on the clean up.

ive had to remove popcorn ceiling too except I was also doing the floor which was carpet so cleanup wasn't a big deal since it was being replaced by tile

Covering floor with plastic sheeting is easier. Gather corners when done and throw debris out for fast cleanup..

Other textures like stipple / stomp / orange peel / knockdown are usually done with joint compound that hardens and can be much more difficult to remove. A couple options might be a) mud over it to make it flat, b) drywall over it, and c) if not too deep a texture sand it off. Try removing a small inconspicuous spot and it will give you an idea how big a job it will be.

I saw a video and the guy got a shop vac and duck taped a long putty knife to the end of the hose of the shop vac, and it worked great and no big mess. I’ll be trying it soon

Popcorn ceiling texture is used as a sound absorber. It also covers up imperfections in the sheetrock finishing. I've known of many people who have done this, only to discover the workers who finished the sheetrock joints, etc., did a horrible job and they have to replace the sheetrock. charlotte asher after removing popcorn you are down to bare, raw drywall. It needs to be sealed with paint called PVA ask for bare drywall paint or PVA a polyvinyl acrylic. You can put a hundred base coats on there and it won't replace 1 coat of PVA that drywall will just keep absorbing it. Also "Gards " works well as a base to stop bubbling paint on drywall. When humidity moisture in drywall.
