You usually find that the people who laugh at your good plans and strong intentions are jealous of you - I remember when I tried to give up smoking all my smoking friends laughed at me and told me it could never be done - they're all dead now and I haven't touched a cigarette in 40 years. Dave Ramsey is one of the good guys - good simple advice that works.

I'm 22 and I've been saving for a house to pay with cash and I get nothing but laughs and negative responses as if to say "aw that's cute, you think you're going to save up that much." and comments like "You'll see when life starts throwing you curve balls, it's not going to happen" from my own family members...who they themselves are in debt with no emergency fund. It's difficult when no one is on your side. Sometimes I have to just look at my bank account for a while and I smile and feel better. Somehow the negativity and laughs still get to you though.

They who made fun of people are just bunch of low self esteem and ungrateful people. They didn't appreciate what they have i.e. talents, skills, knowledge etc. That is why they try to drag people down to their level because they feel threatened by their existence and possession. At least that's how I felt as I constantly being laugh and made fun at for every thing that I do. It had cost me my own self esteem and confidence. Now I'm trying to recover and build up my confidence and self esteem from rock bottom.

I've found it a tough balance to feel like I'm kind and considerate but keeping a boundary with people who are just negative. What are these people missing inside them that they can't help but speak out and tear others down? Why are they not ok with themselves as God made them? That appears to be a chronic problem, so many people are just not ok inside.

Because they've been spoonfed lies since they were little. "Don't dream big; those are just pipe dreams", "do what makes you the most money, even if you hate your job", or my favorite, "you can't start a business; you have to go to college to be successful". After hearing that for a long period of time, people get discouraged and low-key develop a bitterness toward anyone else who strives for something better.

I haven’t had anyone make fun of me. The people who know me have been patient with me as I share what I have learned as well as personal experiences. I tell them I hope they learn from my mistakes. Only one person has gotten irritated with me. I told him Dave Ramsey said to not put anything in my 401k, even if the company matches it. This person got quite irritated and even raised his voice. He said Dave Ramsey meant that I shouldn’t put more than what the company matches. After this back-and-forth, I gave up and “agreed” with him. I just wanted to get away from him; clearly my words were having no impact. It doesn’t matter if he believes me or not anyway. Nothing will keep me from my goal. Nothing.

I was working a low paying corporate job for most part of my career. My girl made fun of my job on a couple of occasions, and as my friends progressed in their careers, I was still at the same place. So I never really told them but they would joke about it sometimes. Now I'm working in finance and at a much better pay grade. Same people still make fun of me, but now it's a little more aggressive and not about my job anymore. Trust me, it's never about "fun" for them, they just don't like you or respect you. You don't need them.

Today's society imposes it's politically correct ideology on everyone. It's when you completely abandon this false doctrine of caring what other people think about you that you become free. It's when you follow this path of hard work and personal moral aptitude that you become the 1%(academic achievement, wealth, work ethic, and "insert anything that is hard") in any walk of life that society despises you. The very fact that people are laughing at you is a metric that you're doing something few every choose to follow. The only thing I would tell this caller is not to tell anyone about your aspirations. Who cares? Certainly not the people you tell because all they want is for you to fail. Live for yourself.

My family has called me cheap for years because I am always looking for deals etc.. I have always owned used cars and when my wife and I got married 5 years ago she had debt and I did too. We now are debt free minus the house, paid off medical, a car and student loan etc.. of around $40k. We have around $20k in savings and are about to refinance house we owe $130k on to a 15 year and it’s current value is around $210k. Our income is around $55k so listen it can be done. I drove a paid for 2001 Nissan Altima for two years with no AC and trust me those 93 degree days in the interstate not hardly moving in trafffic were brutal but this can done. I am 35 my wife is 30. Attack small debt first, and go to the next and do not buy stuff you do not need and this can be done know where you money is and going

Luckily for my boyfriend and I, we have the type of millenial friends that are grinding, have goals, and are hardworking (surprise, we don't all just play video games all day because each generation isn't all bad or all good.) When we turn down the club, camping or lunch they don't make fun of us. They have our best interest at heart. These are the kind of people you want around you. If there aren't any, you'll have to be friendless because having people like that around you will make you more likely to drag yourself down to where they are.

The image of someone duct taping someone else to a bed and force feeding him or her cheesecake is an image that will likely stay with me. So funny...

That comment is not ok. So many better ways to convey a thought then making fun of people's appearance which isn't always a controllable factor. Debt is almost always a choice, weight is another story entirely.

I was in this position, surrounded by people who not only made fun of my ambition to buy my own property but also tried to block me. In the end I slept in a car for three years, working , working, working . I saved up a small down payment of £10,000. Some spirit must be watching over me , because near to my mums where I live, a small house was on the market at the amazing price of £9,999. It was fairly decent with a new roof, but no back door and boarded up windows at the back. I moved in and saved up to do it up a bit at a time. In five years the property went up to be worth £70,000. The council bought it to demolish it along with all my neighbours homes (to build a school), for around £60,000. They offered me a loan of £50,000 to help buy a different home. This loan eats into my equity. As a single women self employed I will find it hard to get a mortgage. But it still satisfies me greatly to have a roof over my head, and a place I can call home. It was really hard to be laughed at and blocked by people around me, but I just kept quietly saving , working, saving. I say, Just keep your head down, and FOCUS.

I think my boss's colleague was making fun of me. One day, she was in my face about some mistakes I made at work, and the next day, she said "how are you?" Strike 1. There's more: I apologized deeply for my mistakes and revealed I had ASD. She told me she wasn't trying to _"Give it to [me]"_ while gesturing like an angry woman, she was trying to _help_ me be _successful._ Strike two. I think she was implying that I'm a big Ioser without her help. And besides, this contradicts her innocent claim: after her lecture the previous day, she said to my present boss, "Is there anything you want to add?", right in front of me. So how did she think I was gonna believe her "honorable helpfulness"? Is my theory right? Was she making fun of me?
