Hi David, Great timing! I've been playing guitar for a long time, but in the last year have become enamoured of Flamenco. Looking forward to learning a productive path towards fluency in the genre, sure there will be some bad habits I'll need to unlearn. I've been watching your posting for about a year by now, nice juicy bite size nuggets, and as I collect them I find the effect is one of not just adding to my knowledge base but it is actually multiplative as the various dots of knowlege connect together. Thanks for you love of subject & generosity of presentation.

Thanks for the nice comment… appreciate you following along with some of my videos and glad you’ve found them helpful. 👌🏼 And sure, sometimes you learn with bad habits, but speaking from experience, everything is fixable. Just takes some time to create new habits. I’m starting this challenge for people who are starting from scratch and feeling lost and overwhelmed with the first steps. Might be past where you’re at, but happy to have you chime in and join. After the challenge, I’ll be hosting a few live virtual masterclasses, you’re also more than welcome to join in, if you have any questions you’d like me to help with…

@@DavidChiriboga Appreciate the reply, I'm actually just turning 70 (I've been playing since I was 19) and retiring in just a few days, so I'll have lots of time available to pursue. I suspect novices have more trouble with chords initially: one of the things I've really liked is the sparsness of many flamenco chords, which I think facilitates the learning process as two basic keys and a capo can cover a great deal of ground. For me the challenge is the right hand; I can fingerpick pretty well, but the various strums, compas & taps are still a mish-mash, have not developed fluency there. Given the vast array of technique and variation available on the right hand, I'm out to sea on where to start in terms of compas and strum/tap technique. I've found farruca very approachable, and have been able to finger pick some falsetas in the format (in fact improvising them as I play), but I'm looking for a 'next place' to go. No urgency needed on responding, if you want to incorporate my questions into a video that's fine with me, imagine others might have the same or similar questions, and I want to respect your time and efforts.

Oh man, you couldn't have started this at a better time, I've been deep in my flamenco phase for months now, and I was just trying to look for where to start to learn how to play flamenco guitar..Guess who just subscribed to your channel! Looking forward to the these 10 days..!!

Cool, sounds great! 👍🏼 Appreciate you subscribing. When you say Flamenco phase, do you mean you’ve been listening to a lot? So I’m starting this challenge for people who are starting from scratch and maybe feeling a bit lost or overwhelmed with the first steps. Hopefully that fits where you’re at. After the challenge, I’ll be hosting a few live virtual masterclasses, where you’re also more than welcome to join in, if you have any questions you’d like me to help with. I’ll be sending info on that later on for people who sign up with my link. (Or posting info later on as well)

@@DavidChiriboga Yeah basically, I did classical guitar when I was 10, but only for 3 years, that was enough for me to go pick it up again 8 years later. Been trying to learn on my own on electric for the past 4 years now but recently I developed a really deep appreciation for flamenco style music. I wanna try to tip my feet with learning how to play but I don't wanna go spend for a classical guitar just yet. Hopefully I'll be able to follow along these new series you're making and learn enough for me to make the jump! 💃🎸😸
