I read that you shouldn’t put background work/extra on an acting resume. Is that true?

Catherine Perez I would say no. It shows you have experience with being on a set if nothing else.

Extra work should not go on your acting resume! It comes across as unprofessional, even if it does give you more set experience. Having no experience on your resume but lots of training is better than displaying your extra work. Use your time as an extra to display your professionalism. If you’re professional and good at what you do, you could be updated to a “featured” role, which you CAN put on your resume.

Thanks for the advice! I was wondering, if you're a teen, and want to be an actor, but you live in the wilderness with a family that is not so wealthy and the nearest acting workshop is an hour away, and the state you live in isn't really popular with acting, will that get you in a film? Or must you wait till your 18 to legally move away to LA or NY to actually get a big role. Because my family doesn't really have the money or time to drive me places, should I just wait until I'm older?
