I don’t know why people complicate this it’s very simple. Regardless of how much money you have You teach your kids they have to earn their keep and I don’t mean that in an abusive way. you have your chores you have your responsibilities And get a job of some sort. They’re gonna have to learn to be independent in their own life so you have to teach them that

I think there is a fine line here. We don’t want to put the burden of finances if the family is in a deficit or give them to much information about finances if the family is in a really good place. When children become teens and need to learn about money that is a whole other thing. I am not a big believer in letting the kids know about finances at a young age. They just are not mentally ready for those type of things. Let kids be kids. The world wants kids to grow up so fast now days.

I'm a birth to three therapist and have a little insight into the younger age and learning perhaps this might be helpful: as a three and four year old (depending on their cognition and receptive language abilities, this may look like a five or six year old, but certainly you can simplify it enough to talk to this with a two-year-old which we did with ours) you can talk about the general concept of money. Now for starters we don't want to go into fight or flight and make money a stressful and nervous topic to talk about and drill them anytime you pay a bill touch your wallet or a checkbook. Keep it simple keep it brief and keep it slow when you talk about it. Hey baby girl Daddy has to go to work to make money and money is what we use to stay in the house and pay for things (or mommy). We do three things with money. We save it we spend it and we give some away. What should we buy your brother the ball or the action figure (when we give two choices we set an appropriate limit for a child and we imply that it is going to happen not that they can't do it, the trick is to make one choice that you control in one choice they control. Another example of choice would be Johnny do you want to walk in or should Daddy carry you?) Back to the example: The ball great let's use some of your money to give your brother then let's put some of your money in a piggy bank. Now what do you want to buy for yourself? Now this isn't something we do every time but sometimes. Kids fall into habits and routines quickly so if you do this every once in a while then they also build moderation and delayed gratification. If every time you go to the store you do it then they assume every time they go into a store they need to buy something. Hope this helps!

Very good. My mom did that with me except with me it was getting to go to chucky cheese’s. We had a chart and if I did x number of chores in a week or month whatever it was she would take me to chucky cheese’s. It worked bc I would always do a lot of chores cause I liked going. I don’t know the exact age but when I got to be 7-10 somewheres around there my dad would take me to work with him. He was in construction, and I would do some cleaning up and he would pay me a little bit of real money and I continue work with him as I grew up. I was not taught much about saving but I did learn it bc my parents would always fight about my dad’s bad spending, so they never talked to me directly about saving but always hearing how bad my dad’s spending was helped me learn to save. Wish I would of been taught investing. Didn’t find that out until 20 on my own through KZbin. I do spend money on hobbies I enjoy but I still manage to save and invest. 21 now, I have about 31k between cash and investments. A 10.5k car that I payed for, and between $5k-12k worth of stuff I could sell if I wanted to. I enjoy the stuff so I’m not selling all of it but will be selling some stuff

And please teach my peers that the pursuit of happiness is a folley. Life's not going to be nor is it supposed to be happy all the time and learning to get through difficulty, navigating course correction through failures and mistakes instead of instead of shielding them from these facts of life that are sure to end up coming to us no matter how hard you try to avoid. I got a guys community group because Im finding alot of young men scared to try things and fail with anything. Soo much looking for pleasure and distraction on the constant and alot of folks don't know because they've never had, hard conversations that need to be have and that therefore actually make it life easier on ourselves on the other side of them. I grew up on poverty and moved to Utah and these kids living in a bubble and I get it, but man I'm talking with people in their 20s acting and sounding like 12 year olds and it's upsetting because theyre now seeing how their not set up to deal with the realities of life out here.

Give incentives or rewards “at times” with certain behaviors. Teach them about money. Let them see some of the money struggles while talking the budget out “with” your husband. Teach them stewardship with tithes, offerings, and talents and work. Chores are good and follow through on things you say like really take things away from them when you say you will to teach them to manage what they have well, discipline and appreciation. It teaches that mismanaging things and time will cause them to loose things.
