I make it a point to tip after the fact. I’ve had too many incidents with drivers stealing the food, claiming they can’t find me, taking forever, etc. if you do your job I tip accordingly. You don’t, you just wasted your gas.

Lots of bad drivers unfortunately. I think it's best to tip on the app just to get the food quicker as the doordash base pay is stupid low. In some areas it is as low as $2.25. Getting $2 bucks is why you wait as they are multi apping and taking other people food who tipped first. No human wants to take $2 order you lose money.

@@raysmith6693 Yes, people getting the food only make 2 dollars to deliver the items if you do not tip. TWO DOLLARS!!!! To drive to your restaurant, wait for your food, then drive to your location. Sometimes that drive is 30+ round trip miles. A lot of the time the base pay doesn't cover the gas cost much less the time to complete the delivery and lets not forget all of the other costs of driving so much. So yes, they should expect a tip for someone using a luxury service. But idiots don't see it that way. Go get the food yourself. And in before, " I only tip after great service".... again the driver went to your restaurant, waited for order and then delivered the order, takes time, gas, etc. All of that before its even delivered. It is already great service because they are doing that for you. All of that effort rain or shine isn't worth a tip? Come on man

I just decline them, once in a while I accidentally accept a stacked order where one person doesn’t tip. Last week I had one and to make it worse the instructions were in all caps with exclamation points to bring it to her door on the 4th floor and how door dash drivers are idiots for leaving her food in the lobby. She kept texting me in all caps asking what was taking so long. It was very annoying. It was -10 in Minnesota that day. I not only didn’t put her food in the hot bag but I left it outside the building door. I never do that to non tippers but this one felt good. My rating was 4.9 so if she gave me a low rating it wouldn’t have affected me much. Once in a while with non tippers I’ll leave their food on the wrong side of the door so they can’t just open their door a crack and grab it.. it I’ll leave the drink in front of the door so it gets knocked over. Non tippers are the worst.

I just remembered one time l picked up a stacked offer 2 $6 offers. As soon as l clicked on the second order(obviously all base pay and had been sitting a long time) the customer texted me all caps WHERE ARE YOU? I quickly responded...unassigned then unassigned the order a minutes later as l was on the way to first customer. I made the trip way less profitable because l am not dealing with a human like that and they would probably 1 star me.

As a doordash driver I actually do this. People feel obligated to tip 15 or 20% at a restaurant, yet, when they have somebody wearing down their own vehicle buying their own gas and paying for their own insurance bringing you food anytime through any kind of weather they feel like they either don't have to tip or they can buy $100 worth of food and tip you one or two dollars. I think they feel they can get away with it because they're online ordering they don't have to look you in the eyes and they can put leave at my door so that they don't even have to have any interaction with you as an actual human being. I despise non tippers.

Btw...I tip in cash...so you don't have to pay taxes or give part of your tip to your employer/pimp. If my order comes in cold like this, that cash tip is now $0.00 👿 Edit: I honestly have only used this type of service once in my life. The lady that brought me my food got a $15 tip for a $15 order back in 2020. At that time, my husband and I were too sick to drive anywhere. We still met her downstairs at the parking lot of our apartment because our apartment is complicated with numbers. Unfortunately it's impossible for the customer to know if the driver did a good job until afterwards. That's why I tip in cash. I usually don't go out to eat or order out without cash for that reason. You can call me a penny pincher all you want, but I'm not paying someone to deliver food cold or smashed up. In the past, I did leave a pre-tip but realized that some drivers have no care for my order. So I now resort to, you get a tip if the food is in good condition. If not, well, that's unfortunate. Edit: These delivery drivers were directly working for the pizza chain or chinese restaurant and did not outsource their delivery service to ubereats and door dash.

They should change the word tip to bid since we’re not technically employees but independent contractors. The word tip’ itself gives cheap people a sense of entitlement to your personal time. Never deliver to someone that has 0 respect for your personal time. Also when you’re taking non tip orders you’re risking a contract violation since %99.99 of all people that try to scam delivery drivers for free food are non tippers. Sometimes when I pick $9 dollar orders for 3 miles they send me $2 dollar offers for 300-500 extra feet I instantly declined them not worth my peace of mind

Okay well it's good to know this because I typically don't tip on the app. I typically give cash at the door. I'm a very good tipper I will tip at least a minimum of $10 and it is more depending on what I order but never under $10. So I'm getting treated badly and having bad service because I'm not putting that money on the app. That's not cool! When I drove Uber we liked cash tips because there is no paper trail for that money and it won't have to be claimed on taxes. I assumed it would be the same across the board for most gig economy jobs. That makes me very sad I hope there have been some very guilty feeling Dasher driver personnel when they get to the door and I hand them a 20.00 tip and they have done stuff like this to my food.😢

So however many orders we can bang out in an hour is what we make that hour. Dd pays 2.50 base pay regardless of trip distance no ones gonna take a 2.50$ order 7 miles to Possibly not even get a cash tip. People rarely tip in cash. I know it’s a joke but it sucks for the people who keep having issues with their order like delivering one hot bag of food that’s clearly missing 2 cold drinks that r listed on the app for the driver to see AND on the receipt stapled to the outside of the bag. They can’t open but u have to know the drinks r not inside. Just an example. But it sucks to give a good tip and then the driver leave ur food outside on the ground (sometimes without bothering to call or ring the bell so u know it’s outside)… and that’s what u get. I tip on the app because I don’t want bad things to happen to my food on the way or to wait forever for someone to accept it. But things like that are why I rather pay a cash tip to the 50% of drivers who do a good job. Also, I’ve driven before so I know the tips r needed but I also know I did an excellent job as a driver. It’s sucks that an F driver should get the same tip as an A+ driver right off the bat.

I think tipping is mandatory to ensure you get your food quick and with no games, plus it's the right thing to do. I get preferred treatment from Doordash as l am a premium driver so most big orders come my way. I treat everyone with respect no matter if they tipped or not, l pride myself on giving a great experience. Hopefully Doordash can weed out more bad drivers for good ones.
