Angel souls IMO are a tiny part of their grace that can't be torn from them. In fact, I think souls and grace are both the same god-essense in different quantities. You pull the grace out and what's left either is or becomes the soul.
@Archiver_Studio4 ай бұрын
I don't know if the souls in Purgatory are erased after death, but absorption of souls is NOT destroying them, you're assimilating them and forcing them to remain inside you for the length of your existence If you absorb souls, and die or get forced to your afterlife, then every soul you absorbed is stripped away and sent to their own afterlife
@Archiver_Studio4 ай бұрын
Also, Angels seem to BE souls in a way that opposes Demons They already have souls but they can't be transformed into Humans unless the source of their divinity is removed(This being their grace) Meaning when Anna or Castiel absorbed their grace, they were reverting back into their angelic status
@patecar204 ай бұрын
I think souls are just the pure enegry that is a living beings essence. It's the layers added on them that then change the base into something different. Everyone is in a meat suit, the humans just don't realize it's true for them too, because their locked in the meat suit. An angel or demon becoming human just has the extra layer removed. Think about the fact jack could turn human souls into angels. but they all came with meat suits. However a demon can't be turned into a angel, or vice versa or a monster, but humans can become all 3. The human soul is the base, and their meat suit allows them to transform into things the others can't, monsters, angels, demons. That would indeed make humans gods greatest creation a being who can become whatever it wants. It's no wonder the soul is so powerful.

It's interesting because as far as I'm aware (please correct me if I'm wrong), this is - in essence - what Sikh's believe about the nature of mankind and souls. We're all little 'bits' of God that after reincarnating in various forms, once enough 'karma' is earned, ultimately return to the source, merging back into the 'collective' that we would call God. It presents so many fascinating ideas though in terms of the show because, if so, God is essentially experiencing DID (split personality), with his minor personalities who lack the broader will and power trying to 'kill' the dominant personality. Philosophically speaking, it's something called idealism, basically reality only consists of thought and idea, in the case of the show, it really resonates because it would mean God is literally just in his head and all the characters, humans and monsters are simply much, much smaller parts of himself. There isn't an individual at all, just one entity, all of reality being that entity basically just dreaming.

Consider the grace and attachment to a soul. So in order for a soul to exist as an angel it has to have that armor. So Grace is that armor it is the existing thing that ensures your power and strength and abilities are abundant and clear. When your Grace is removed, your soul has to repair from the removal of said arm. More or less your body working out after a really good workout or or after playing sports your body's going to take time to recover. Well consider taking And Angel's Grace way as living with something that was just technically extra but at the same time it's still supposed to be there. It's just like looking at a train. You can remove all the train cars but the engine itself is meant to have those things behind it. The whole purpose for the train's existence is to have the extra cargo is to have those train cars behind it. So removing them and then sending it back to where it came from. Will only get it attached back to it. It's actually pretty simple. They didn't have to try to explain this because they were built to have grates but they were also are at least for the archangels built to have free will and I believe it was a necessity for the amount of power that was going to be granted to them

I always felt that humans in the show being able to survive without their souls to be kind of dumb. If the soul is their literal life essence then the body shouldn't be able to function without them. Unless the soulless body is reanimated by magic or the frankenstein method, then for all intense and purposes, the soulless body should just be a corpse, since the body is literally powered by the life essence of the person that lives inside that body.

I don't know for sure about how souls work in Supernatural, but some of what was said here reminds me of how they work in my fantasy universe and I think there may be something of this that applies to supernatural as well. After all, I am a huge, huge supernatural fan, and I know it had a big inspiration on me. To start, let's go over the definition of just what a soul is. In my fantasy world (and to an extent in my own real world spiritual beliefs), the soul has three parts. This is an idea dating back to Plato. The three parts are as follows: -The physical (plato called it the appetitive), which comes from our flesh as a living thing. Each individual cell has its own level of consciousness, that collectively give a spiritual being to the body itself, one that is fused with the flesh and cannot depart it. This part is left behind upon our physical death. It is this bit of us that necromancers in my fantasy novel commune with and animate in order to raise undead. The second part is our spirit (plato called it the spirited part of the soul). It deals with our emotional energies, our feelings, our desires, all the things that we go for beyond just survival. It has a physical form of its own, but in life it is mixed with the spirit of the body. Upon death, this mass of energy becomes separated from the body. Little traces of it remain inside the body, though they fade over time (if a necromancer gets a fresh enough corpse, they can animate it and it will possess the skills, memories, knowledge, and even to an extent the personality of the deceased, good enough to fool people. It is this particular type of body that is used to create vampires). Some of it leaves into the environment, returning to nature. But the bulk of it, the bit still tethered to our consciousness, goes on to the spirit world. Of course to call the spirit world a singular world is a bit inaccurate. It's more like an infinite series of planes, all of which are gigantic masses of spiritual energy. Looking at them from the outside they'd look a lot like a star, but internally they take on a variety of forms, formed of the collective imaginations of its inhabitants. There are many types of planes in my novel, but they broadly fall into four categories: Light, Dark, Neutral, and Nexus. There are infinite planes in each category, though some are more important than others. There are, however, five light and dark planes that are considered particularly potent. The light ones are tied to archangels (Michael, Samael, Gabriel, Uriel, and Raphael), while the dark ones are tied to the five rivers of the underworld (personified as demonic princesses: Lethe, Acheron, Phlegethon, Styx, Cocytus). The five light and dark realms all have their own source realms that contain the most pure form of their energy, Tartarus (dark) and Empyrean (light). Neutral realms are any realms that are perfectly balanced between the light and the darkness. The most famous of these is the Venutian plane (tied to the fallen archangel Lucifer), and they are planes where one could go either direction. Nexus planes, lastly, are planes that exist to connect different kinds of worlds together. Think of them as hub-worlds. The main one is Earth (which is also a neutral plane, FYI), which is also the physical universe, a very concrete realm that is balanced between light and darkness. Earth connects all planes together, and any plane is accessible from Earth. Where one's spiritual energy goes upon death is dependent upon what energy they are most aligned to. If your soul is full of attachment, negative karma, etc., you go to one of the underworld planes, not forever, but at least until your soul is no longer weighted down. If your soul is not full of attachment and you have positive karma, etc., you go to the celestial planes (light realms). If you're in the middle, you go to a neutral plane. Some souls are so at peace their spirits rest immediately and they go straight to the astral plane and unite with Source/God. These souls have achieved enlightenment and are completely detached from the rest of the universe. Some of them go on to become angels, choosing to stay awake but unified with Source. They can be incarnated in any realm again, either through birth, or through the will of Source can manifest, and are sent to serve divine purpose. They can sometimes also borrow people's bodies/spirits, but they don't do so in a harmful or negative way. The opposite of them are demons, souls whose spirits have rotted away into the darkness, but whose minds are not at peace, consumed by endless, deep hunger from their attachments. They go around seeking new spirits and bodies to corrupt, to merge with. They steal the spirits and bodies of others to come back into the world, but can only really do so if they have a way into a person's mind, and if that person isn't strong enough to kick them out. The most dangerous of these are those who were former angels, as they have achieved enlightenment, but have fallen back into attachment and sin. This brings me to the third and final part of the soul: the astral body, the mind, the platonic form. Plato would have called this reason, the part of the soul that he thought should rule over the spirited and appetitive parts of the soul. This part of the soul has existed forever, will always exist, and cannot be created nor destroyed. It can only be "awoken" or manifested in other worlds. These are infinite in number, and they manifest in the world when the conditions for them are exactly right. Think of this as the higher self. It exists in a realm that seems entirely empty, but is really brimming with endless ideas, possibilities. It is infinite potential. Most souls end up here eventually, and most are at peace, asleep. at union with Source/God. They no longer have spirits or bodies, but are just abstractions. End part 1
@detritusofseattleАй бұрын
Part 2: So how does a soul get made? A complete soul including body, mind, and spirit, is formed when something occurs in the world that briefly creates a little bit of divine creative energy (there is also a divine destructive energy and a divine presence that is neutral, but we'll ignore those for now). What does this? Love. Love can take many forms, but they are all, in some way, a union of opposites. When a man and a woman come together, for a brief instant, their energies mix, as does their flesh and their minds, and when that happens, you get that divine spark formed, like a fire being lit. The force is so great that it briefly breaks open doors to other planes, dragging in energy from the spirit world, as well as pulling in energy from the environment. The union of flesh is what seals it all together, binding it to a body so that the fire does not go out and can go on to form a new soul. In that new creation is, in a sense, a new world. It is, in a sense, an inversion of the process by which God made the world. God was one and split itself into matter, spirit, force, and mind, creating infinite worlds in the process. New lives are essentially the condensation of that into one form, mini-gods as you might put it. The flesh comes from the parents originally, but is nurtured by the environment, the food it intakes, how it lives, etc. The spirit comes from the parents, and to an extent the position of the planets and stars in the sky affect how it forms, what door is opened to what planes, and the environment the child is conceived, carried, and raised in, as well as its experience, shapes the energies within it. In my fantasy novel this becomes important, as magic comes from the spirit being converted into other forms of energy, and every soul has alignment between creation and destruction, an elemental property (souls contain all elements, but some are more dominant because of where the energies came from, their parents energies, etc), and a dominant form that energy is expressed in tied to the seven chakras. Knowing ones alignment, element, and chakra is important because it determines the spells that will be easiest to learn vs hardest to learn. I think that while Supernatural is not identical in form to my own set up, it probably has a lot of similarities. That would be because we share inspiration sources. I was inspired by both the Abrahamic faiths and eastern ideas, as well as occult traditions. That's where Supernatural gets a lot of its lore from, albeit with some artistic license taken. Souls in their world are probably created in a very similar manner, and are probably tripartite. When a human is born, they have flesh, a spirit, and a mind. The flesh is physical and exists on earth. The spirit is, well, spiritual, and is pure divine energy. The mind has no physical or tangible form, but exists in an abstract way. I think the mind exists in the empty, but when a spirit or a body exist, it is awake, living in those other realms. Perhaps when Jack called out to Castiel, he gave Castiel just a little bit of his own divine energy, attempting to make him manifest in the world again. Not enough to pull him, but enough so that his mind was no longer "at peace", asleep. Much like my world, there are three possible places a spirit goes in death. Those places are Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory. One can also reside in the veil, but that's kind of a nexus between worlds, and spirits aren't really meant to be there. Souls in Heaven or Hell are firmly light or dark, good or evil - unless some chicanery has occurred to make them be somewhere they shouldn't. Purgatory is like the neutral realms. It is a place where souls that didn't really make a choice go to lose their bestial self, the beast part of them. When monsters die in purgatory, I believe their human soul moves on to either heaven or hell, or possibly just goes on to peace in the empty. Demons and angels are both based on humans, and so when their spirits are destroyed for some reason, their mind goes back to the Empty, where it originally came from. The empty is probably the ultimate fate of all spirits eventually. Death says that the soul is impermanent and vulnerable, which would imply that Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory are not permanent states either. Nor is being an angel or a demon. Eventually everything dies. And I do mean everything, even the avatar of the light, Chuck, had an expiration date. So did Amara, the avatar of Darkness. So does the current incarnation of Death apparently. So, probably, does the Empty entity - who I actually think became the entity in the same way that a reaper becomes death or a nephilim becomes the new light/darkness when the old is destroyed. Most likely, the empty is the very soul that awakens in its domain. The reason it was so obsessed with Castiel is because, on some level, it IS Castiel, the part of him that desperately wants to be at peace, not to go back. It also becomes things that mean something to that first awakened mind. That's why it turned into Meg. That's why it turned into Castiel himself. That's why it chose to take him once he had achieved true happiness- because then he has fulfilled the thing that kept him awake. Souls in heaven eventually either become angels or their souls kind of disappear over time- it's why we see no souls from like ancient times in heaven. Nothing older than a few hundred years. All souls older than that have lost their humanity, kind of fused with heaven, and became angels. They don't remember being humans. They sort of share a collective consciousness up there. Souls in Hell eventually become demons as the humanity is literally scourged out of them. They might briefly remember their humanity, but over hundreds or thousands of years they are likely to forget it until something comes along to remind them of it (Cain remembered his humanity because he fell in love, I think). But angels and demons are also not eternal. They can be killed, and I suspect their lifespans, while long, are also not infinite, even in the absence of conflict between Heaven and Hell. When their spirits are destroyed, they return to the empty. So the life cycle of a soul in Supernatural is basically like the one in my novels, but different in the more fine details. A soul is born to its parents with a little bit of their parents in them, lives its human life. That life comes to an end in one of three ways: Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory if they were turned into some kind of monster in the interim. Once in Heaven or Hell, they eventually become either an angel or a demon, and eventually their spirit dies, and they return to the empty, where they become something like infinite potential. They can be reborn! They just won't remember who they used to be in most cases because they will eventually be someone else. And not just in the one reality that the boys inhabit. They can be born anywhere in the multiverse. And what's more, the time between incarnations is not always exactly linear. This potential can be manifested in multiple places at once, and in some people, like that one girl who could open doors between worlds, that connection allows their manifestations to sort of touch on some level. Some of them are similar, some are very, very different. That's kinda my take anyway. I know this was super, super long. I hope it was enjoyed at least.

Actually the multiple memories is probably a biproduct of the fact that death literally split it up, yes sams soul experienced different things than the body while the body was outside lucifers cage, but that is due to the fact that we saw just the damage that the experiences sams souls had would do to the reunited sam, cuz it messed up cass as well just by transferring the dilema to him, so if a regular soul that wasn’t in the cage reunited with its soulless body it probably be just fine, as sam still remembered the things lucifer did to his soul after the transfer cass just removed the lucifer part that was specifically torturing sam at that moment
@edwinjusto57394 ай бұрын
Also I would say empathy comes from the soul, as burning away the humanity or the empathy is what makes human souls into demon souls who would normally go onto do things that sort of require having no empathy and the demon cure seems to bestow upon those demon souls that part that was taken away back to said soul thus changing them back into new beings as they still remember everything they did as demons but now have the empathy for their actions into them, hence why that example demon and crowley behave significantly different to what they were right before it
@edwinjusto57394 ай бұрын
Also in addition to that, angels seemingly are the prototype to souls, as they came before souls and predate them given that archangels also seem to have them and they predate literally everything in existence as they helped locked away the darkness, so chuck made angels and then humans, but when a grace is removed thats the same as when demons are cure hut in reverse burning away that part of the angels and leaving the prototype that still behaves like a soul, the only angelic exception is nephilim as they are born from humans with a human soul in addition to the thing that makes angels what they are, which I would argue is why they are more powerful than angels as they got that to boost them

I always assumed that angels always had souls, they just *_also_* had grace. Hell, it's shown throughout the show that if a human gains grace, they become an angel - not just from when a fallen angel regains their grace but when human souls in heaven were turned into angels later in the show. I always imagined grace not as a _replacement_ to souls, but more akin to connecting nitro to a car; in this example the soul would be the regular fuel.

Raphael could have find a way to free Lucifer really fast. And he would probably figure out that he swallowed the Leviathans, and spit them (only the leviathans) back. He would've known how, i bet.

In regards to the angel soul, I always imagined it as a regular soule wrapped in grace. ....or I guess rather human souls are lacking the grace wrapping that angels have.

You know, I'm an atheist, but idea of soul is fascinating to me, and I love exploring it in various media. In my perspective, concept of soul is expression of desire (of human mind) to transcend limitations of flesh, essentially most ancient trans-humanistic idea. In most basic average representation, soul is practically interdimensional cortical stack (like in Altered Carbon or Eclipse Phase), created to preserve human ego (personality, memory and other cool stuff we value about ourselves, skills, knowledge...) and then store it on some interdimensional server, simulated environment (afterlife). Attaching it to some interdimensional supernatural reactor is an odd idea, but okay I suppose, unless you forgot to give people user manual.

From what I understand a souless individual is more instinctual and impulsive, they are driven by a need to survive or even purpose. While they can be emotional and understand emotions it's not something they are naturally proficient in. If anything they are essentially less robotic angels. The soul on the other hand is everything else, it's what is missing, stronger emotions, passion, a actual will with a sense of morality. A demon on the other hand is morality and passion twisted, any light and purity snuffed out like a candle leaving nothing but slightly burning embers that produce nothing but smoke that on occasion can vaugly take on the shape and visage of your former self, like the human shape Azazel took when he was wrestled by John out of his meat suit.

I still think that when the monster soul "dies" in purgatory, it respawns a couple of minutes or hours later. However, it cannot respawn if it is eaten by leviathans. I am using your previous videos and theories to make this theory. I really think that Eve made monster so they could be killed and get eaten by leviathans. That is why she never came back before to Earth all those years ago. She created Alphas and then the Alphas made their children and it in return created hunters. It was a balance. She loved the balance until Crowley started torturing her children. I also think she let herself get killed because I don't think she really cares about Earth to stay there for that long. She knows how to come back any time. Dragons are rare but they exist, also who said that only dragons can bring her back?

One not should be that God didn't state that the souls themselves could produce enough energy to kill the darkness but that the *light* from such might (her being, well, the darkness)

@@felyne262 There's an episode where crowley possesses sam while sam is possessed by gadreel and when crowley meets sam he tells him that gadreel has him packed away in his own mind. It could be something like that. But then there's also that episode where sam lets lucifer possess him and lucifer talks to a clearly consciously aware sam in a mirror and is able to chat with him without going into sam's mind.

Your theory is sound, but you have to take Castiel into account. Both his vessel, and Jimmy Novak's soul were completely destroyed on a sub-atomic level by Lucifer. Jimmy's soul went to heaven, and Castiel's vessel was rebuilt by Chuck. When he was rebuilt there was no host soul left for him to gain. In this case I believe when Chuck rebuilt him he also restored his grace, and didn't need a soul to bind to. It's very possible that grace is the same energy as souls, and when it's removed it's not completely gone, and what's left over is just enough to make them human, and keep them alive. Kind of how you can put dye in a plastic container, and no matter how hard you try, you just can't get it all out because the dye forms a molecular bond with it. The remaining grace bonds with the vessel, and becomes part of it. This would also account for them not being able to recharge their grace when enough of it is depleted. This is also evidenced by Gadreel leaving a small portion of his grace in Sam when he was ejected.

I think God is a creator only in the sense that he is able to use the “creation” energy that was already there. He shapes the energy into creations. I think souls are raw fragments of that creation energy. I think Grace is gods power that is added to that soul energy which is why Arc Angles are so much more powerful (More Grace in the mixture) and which is why when removed, all that is left is the soul. souls are what give the true “free will” It allows beings to understand the “natural order” Which is why when you are soulless you lose that connection. Or why angles have a “free will” because they have souls they are just overridden by their Grace. Im sure there is probably a lot of holes in my theory, but its what has been my head cannon for a long time.

Actually i feel like the show's take on souls and even Heaven is quite interesting. Heaven is not one place but the memories of billions of people and everyone has his/her own heaven. Your soul is you but then so is your body. So take the soul and youre left with a body thats still you but lacks the spark that makes you complete. Hence, youre empty. Even the concept of God in the show is very human, for the lack of a better word. Why doesnt God do anything, is a question im sure many people ask themselves everyday. So the show answers it in the most rational human way possible : God doesnt care. Its not that he's evil or good, but he doesnt care. When God is talking to Lucifer in season 11 he tells him that the Mark just made him more of what he was. Its understandable that Lucifer turned out that way then, since God is also like that. In a way, i think the soul was a breakthrough invention even for God lol. The soul is what drives you to truly care and love. And i think God himself lacks that since he is also soulless.
