Justin York, the genius behind York audio, has released some new IR's with the Fractal FM3/AxeFx3 in mind. In this video, I quickly walk through and sample these IR's. I am in no way affiliated with Justin York, just a major gear nerd. www.yorkaudio....

Nice demo. Lots of fx in the examples, but I can definitely hear what you're talking about when you switch to stock cabs (I'm on helix, not fractal fwiw, but similar effect). I do like york audio stuff.

@@thatasianguitarguy Not gonna lie, I almost exclusively used round until now. I was never much of a chime guy, it sounded thin to me. However, the Matchless IRs have completely changed the game for me!

The ir sound great, but 90% of the demo is in overdrive + reverb, do some actual clean tone with no effect demo. Btw, the file numbers only determine which capture your hearing, not mic position or speaker position, this was mentioned in the manual pdf.

I'll be sure to do it on the next one for you! And Justin did refer that on the PDF - I had made this video prior to talking to Justin and was trying to pump the video out.

which IR do you suggest for a clean near edge breakup tone to play with my stratocaster (single coils)? Thanks
@thatasianguitarguy

Honestly - any of them. I think it'll really depend on how you dial in your amp. I like to balance between bright and dark with my driven tone being a bit darker so anything with a 121 is always a plus for me.

I really like the YA Matchless IR v2 with my HxStomp and the Matchstick Channel 1. The other setup I get a lot out of is the M77 IR (also york audio) and the Archon Clean amp. I'm using a jazzmaster, PRS 24 and a hollow Baker B1 (HB equipped guitar).

Great demo! In fact I feel the YA matchless sounded more “hifi” and the hislop IRs are more mid pushed... do you normally use external drive pedals with amp modeller? I’m currently surveying for drives to incorporate with my Amplifire 3

Thank you! So I'm doing a bit of both. I actually run a duelist on my board and I have 4 channels set up on the FM3, I'll make a video walking through my patch if that will help. And I agree 100%, DH IR's are very midrange and I think they do well for that Bethel tone. They're definitely more processed for that signal chain

Hey I'm really new to Fractal(just got the Axe FX III), and I was hoping you could do a complete breakdown of what your settings around 2:19 (and a bit after into the KOT sounds too) are and how you built the preset. That's pretty much the "clean" tone I'm shooting for, so it'd be really really helpful lol. Plus I have the V2 Matchless IRs so I should be able to get there hopefully. Thank you so much for your vids, any help, and also you sound great btw.

I'm 99% sure I was using Boutique 1 Model for this! Otherwise, it's pretty straight forward, but I can try to do a deep dive on the preset if that'll help!

@@thatasianguitarguy I am trying to learn how to use this thing, but frankly it's a bit overwhelming so even what you'd consider extremely easy and remedial isn't for me with these modelers. I picked up some presets from WT and different places, but they don't sound great so far tbh. Even if you're not thinking you're doing much I'd love to see the whole thing or something super close completely built from scratch including comp, delay, verb, cabs, irs, and everything. No worries if you're too busy I know it's a specific and time consuming ask

@thatasianguitarguy

I totally get that. The reasoning for not was just because I wanted to make sure I could hear the IR's in a more realistic situation as I play with reverb about 99% of the time. I'll be sure to toggle reverb on and off for future videos! Thanks for the feedback!

How do you like these compared to the Hislop ones? Which ones take less work to sit in a mix well, especially for the Round model?
@thatasianguitarguy
@thatasianguitarguy 3 жыл бұрын
The Hislop ones are much darker and a little more full. I think the York audio ones cut better, but it all depends on what you're needing. I have it set where I actually use 3 separate IR's that lets me toggle between the 3 of them depending on what kind of FOH environment I'm working in. It makes it easier for FOH/monitors to do less altering to my tone and I've worked all 3 settings to where my drives and all that need relatively minimal tweaking.
