I've been lucky to see Epica twice in my hometown (one of them with Dragonforce!!), and they put a hell of a show. One of those I was able to get a vip ticket and met them face to face, and they're freakin cool and funny, and Simone in person.... "nosebleed". While in the same genre, they're definitly heavier sounding than Nightwish, and Mark Jansen's (not afiliated with Floor :p) growls definitely help, love the contrast between his harsh growls and Simone heavenly voice.

Must admit I was at download (i'm on the pic of the band selfie at the end of the gig) and i didn't expect a wall of death but sheesh. Still think you should listen to Tarja though, nightwish are the projenitors of symphonic metal and Tarja has been a massive influence on the singing style, admitted by Simone herself in interviews. though must admit after hearing this again i'm ready for a little Amon Amarth or Arch Enemy

Epica literally too their name from an album by the band Kamelot, called, what else, but EPICA. Simone Simons is actually married to Kamelot's keyboard player Oliver Polotai. So they have a VERY long standing history wth this band.

Simone writes some lyrics, Mark (lead guitars) also writes and arranges the guitar parts, and all the orchestra and choir arrangements are done and created by Coen (keyboards). This is is only possible when you have very good and well trained singers. In this scene is no room for fake singers, because the crowd didn’t expect that. Most of our Dutch female front singers has the ability to sing what they want in any style. You can find them on KZbin.

I like to correct you in this case, because Floor was inspired by Anneke van Giersbergen and I think Simone as well. Anneke was the front lady of The Gatering from the early 90’s until 2007. Nightwish didn’t exist in that time and Tarja didn’t work in the scene either Tarth time. Look at the PinpPop video’s on you tube from that time.
