My Russian tort did this last week, and it freaked me out. Thought he was trying to drown himself 😭 I had no clue about this.

lmaooo 💀 That would actually be super scary if a tortoise was suicidal

Woah I always wondered about this because how their mouths are built for chomping and not really drinking, the whole time they just use their nose!! Very educational
@JesusGarcia98.F2 жыл бұрын
Technically we can drink from our noses too as it redirects to our stomachs too lol

I just witnessed my sulcata drinking for a full 4 minutes. Then takes a break and drinks again for 1 minute. Amazing creatures

Just found one of these on the street in a city. He’s big & probably a lost pet! It’s summer time. Can he live outside? Do I just feed him carrots like the video? & I can find something for water easy enough.

The species and type (Mediterranean or desert) will determine diet. However the tortoise forum is a good guideline for caring for reptiles. But a good starting place would be identifying species

How is that I've never seen my tortoise do that? He has a special bowl for tortoise but I don't think he ever actually used it. Also we feed him everyday with tomato and cucumber, he eats all grass stuff as well (he spends days outside) and loves to take baths when we are watering our plants. Is my tortoise broken?
@jluehring3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like your tortoise is getting plenty of water from the cucumbers and tomatoes. Depending on the type of tortoise you have that may not be a great diet for them

Wow! I didn't know this. I am curious as to how proto-mammals drank water. In the fossil record cynodonts with a bone in the mouth for suction are labeled as Crown Mammals. I came here to see how non-mammal synapsids drank water. I was expecting filling the mouth with water and then letting gravity do its work.

Where can I find that huge low pottery plate I believe the nostril thing I had water cup for him and he stuck his head inside and I can tell he sniffed the water this makes sense we had a low pottery type thing like this for him to drink but it cracked the little turtle use to swim he’s tiny size of a bread slice but the sulfates is so huge he won’t see water bowls dishes he needs something as low and big and wide as him we have lots of things but w their shells and how they walk and move they knock things over I been dying to find where to buy a wide like pizza size plate maybe 2 inches high at best where he can go into and drink we had a mud pool but next month we will make a new one
