How exactly do trees extract CO2 from the atmosphere? And in general, how do they fight climate change?
#TeamTrees We know that one way to combat climate change is by planting trees. But why? Let's explore the mechanism by which trees fight climate change!
#TeamTrees wants to raise $20,000,000 for the Arbor Day Foundation so that they can plant 20,000,000 trees! Donate here:

Did you know phytoplankton is responsable for most of the oxygen in the world. Their population grows best on paths of whales. So criminalizing with scary fines and enforcing whale fishing will do a lot. It would be interesting if we found a way to make phytoplankton on ships and get them dispersed around the sea. Kind of a catalytic converter for a car, but with the ships leftovers maybe. I wouldn’t doubt that corals also die from whales changing their routes, since I used to have 35 corals on a tank and my house was out of electricity 2 or 3 for up to 18 hours a few times in a few years. My tank was a real small one so temperature changes fast, The water reached the death level temperature several times, but no coral ever died. My tank was also ultra small for what it had in it. My fish died from over salination as a heat wave evaporated a inch or 3 out of the tank because I live in a desert, but my corals actually reproduced, I multiplied my population of corals. Never replenished the fish as I knew they would die, so it was a coral tank with no fish that supposedly make it helthier. I feed them 1/3 of what the reef man told me but 3 times a week instead of once a week, They grew fast. I also read that this also feed most of the lower chain, which feeds what we eat from the sea. Also most medicines now come from corals and they only use a bunch full. Wouldn’t surprise me pharmaceutics killing them, but hopefully its just lack of phytoplankton since it has decreased in population, as the whale population has decreased and evaded human routes. I mean dont get me wrong I love trees, and we have nut trees for a living. Been planting since my grandfather, but I cant help but notice the importance of such a small living thing.

I have a weird question. See, we plant trees and that takes more than a decade for a tree to absorb tonnes of CO2. So, Why can't we just photosynthesise in labs 10x faster and store them somewhere?
@BranchEducation
@BranchEducation 3 жыл бұрын
That's a great question! I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that the issue deals with scale. Building a lab to perform the photosynthesis of 10,000 trees would cost $$$$$, but just planting 10,000 trees would cost $$.

@@wayneeligur7586 Hardly is that is true. The emissions we say we produce is lower then they actually are. Diesel gate or any number of examples show that companies and people lie about emissions. It is reported false or the emissions happens off site. (electric cars burning coal) Any of the vehicles I interact with are all emission cheating. Tuned to save on fuel and longevity of the machine. Lorries tuned to make more power cheaper at expense of emissions. Since tax on fuel and this forced emissions stuff cost companies and the working people to much money. Big industries that can create clean energy sell it off and buy cheap fossil energy. Really unless the consumers are going to pay more and really demand change from companies to not cheats, lies and the making of money for the 1%. Well, there is no reason to care about any of this. They make stuff up to look good. Government politics and culture need all a reset. All are full of corruption. But for that to happen soon we are talking about killing and hole world cause as on the streets heads rolls and good people is going to die in the cross fire. And the ones in power can shut off our communications and sensor us. :) #TeamTrees is a scam too. Burn wood and the emission collected turn back into the air. You need to stop taking the stuff from the ground. You can not burn fossil fuel and claim planting tress make you neutral. You do not do anything good before removing fossil energy. Agen why claims of emissions are bullshit. We are better now but far from being fucking honest. Scams and lies. Corruption. You need to plant trees and rely on that energy. And not cheat or lie about where you get the energy. Swedish by the way. Love to cheat emissions as they are scams and just corruption. I make sure to not be wasteful and make vehicle last longer and such. I rather think about airports heating there buildings with diesel to keep the big windows towards the run way. And how much diesel go into flying and how they cheat taxing that fuel. Never flying. Never wasting nature more then I need to. The culture of us all need to change and turn back to farm age.

I'm not too sure but you're asking the same question that I've puzzled by for years. Now this is only my logical answer and not actual fact, But I'm sure fast and tall growing trees help the environment much more than slow and short trees. To further help you understand my view; a whole acre of bamboo will do more for the environment than a whole acre of Bonsai trees. Simply because Bamboo grows about a foot a day, and Bonsai trees grow about a foot a century. But this is just a thought, in my opinion this makes sense

Every forest needs mother trees, meaning large old trees. Sending information via the rootsystem and mycelium fungal connection. Without older trees the forest is weaker and more suseptible to disease and all other types of infestation. The mother trees can actually give other trees nutrience when they need it to survive. Also a forest without any huge trees is plain boring right.

Look, I'm all for planting trees, but let's not pretend here. Planting trees has many benefits. Logging has devastated natural environments and the habitats of many endangered species. Planting more trees will provide more habitat for a more diverse and healthier ecosystem. I have no problem with, and very much encourage people to plant trees. BUT, planting trees will not do a damn thing at all to combat climate change. Even planting 20 million, even if you planted 20 million every single day, even if you covered the entire surface of the planet with rain forest, none of it will make any significant impact on the amount of carbon that we have and continue to pump into the atmosphere.

Great, but one key factor is missing. Each tree after dying will decompose and give back it's carbon content. That is why trees only store CO2 for prolonged period of time and don't reduce CO2 content when you look at them in bulk. You would need to cut down such tree and then bury it so deep and air-tight so CO2 can't find way back to atmosphere...

The starlink vid was amazing, this one however.. why are we afraid of 400ppm? plants would THRIVE at 2000, when the ice melts the earth has defense mechanisms and will cause another ice age to compensate. Versus water vapor co2 is nothing as far as contribution to temp, and most of these temp changes people are propagating are simply nighttime temps arent getting as low, which throws the average. In all probability any large events will be caused by the SUN and polar field migration or LLSVP release. Not to say that we shouldn't be better, planting more trees and stopping rainforest devastation, slowing our demand on meat so they stop over farming cattle would be some fixes, not carbon credits and taxation which is the goal of any political party speaking about climate change. The green agendas facts are wrong and that makes everyone look silly when speaking to their talking points. I would love to see this video redone with as much detail as the starlink one getting down and dirty into the science of photosynthesis! Much love to TeamTrees! johnenglander.net/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/CO2%20550my%20Extinction%20Chart%20from%20Ward.jpg
