I grew up and lived the majority of my life like y'all live now and I'd never heard it called homesteading until KZbin . We always called it farming lol. We raised our own meat, plus the hunters in the family supplied the wild meat and birds. Always had a big garden and our own fresh milk.

Brown Swiss/Guernsey cattle are famous among cattle breeds for their cream content, you chose wisely! You can make yogurt If you whisk in starter culture; plain no-sugar store-bought yogurt around 4oz per gallon (possibly half or less but first time more is safer, whisk the starter in a little milk so it's finely dispersed then stir in with the bulk milk) let sit on the counter at around 70deg room temp until the next day (winter time I've used a warmed oven turned off to get it started) check for done and refrigerate. Make simple cottage cheese with the just lemon juice like you used in heated milk. Saturday mornings as kids we'd turn the crank on the old paddle butter churn while watching cartoons.

So happy I found your channel the other day (watched your pickled eggs vid). I'll be watching the older videos along the way til I'm completely caught up. Those onions you planted are pretty neat! Growing up (back in th 60s), from the time I was just a little girl, it was "my job" to plant onion sets each spring. We'd always have 2 big long rows of them. I always loved helping to plant garden. Not so much harvesting, but enjoyed planting. And as I grew, I got to help plant/harvest everything. Now I'm 70 and unable to have a garden where I live. I do put tomatoes alongside a chain link fence.

My husband of 43 years drives me crazy. He either automatically says he can't do something or barely tries once then gives up. Me I try and if whatever fails or isn't as good as I want I step back to access the whole thing, figure out what can/needs to be done and keep trying until it's right. To me if you go in with the attitude/fear that you will fail then you're defeated at the start.. Whereas if you just remember that each failure is a learning experience and try again adjust as you go you're going to get it right eventually. Heck, when I was paralyzed I was told that there were things I'd never do, I took it as a challenge, adapted my way of doing things, no most things I can do like walk, cook, sew etc etc aren't done the way I used to but they are done and that's all that matters overall. It's the same with most things you attempt, it may not be exactly how the person, recipe etc says to do it, the ultimate goal is to get to the end and have something you're happy with. There are many ways to do things all that matters in the end is finding a way that works for you

I wish I lived closer! I’d pay good money for that milk and cream! I do make homemade ricotta and it’s so delicious…especially in the summer with fresh tomatoes! That supper looks so good! I LOVE that you use the term supper! Growing up and still in our house…supper is in the evening and dinner is lunch! Makes me think of when I was a little girl! Try roasting your corn in the oven! I think roasting it at a high heat for a short amount of time concentrates the flavor a little…even when it’s been frozen. I’m not THAT much older…maybe 10 years than you but you make me so proud! My baby is 19 and my sister in law to my baby brother is 23 and they can cook like we do! It’s so important to teach people how to cook a real supper for their family! Keep doing you girl! You’re spreading so much important knowledge that literally can MAKE people’s lives. I couldn’t be more proud if you belonged to me! 😂

Most folks give up on making cheese after one try. If you want to get good at anything, you've gotta practice. Never seen a recipe that didn't involve pulling by hand, but have told folks that can't stand touching something hot to use two pairs of tongs, I don't use them myself, but the ones I suggested it to love it now.
