You just have to be gifted, intelligent, and customer friendly. Oh, did I fail to mention that it requires an undying love of the guitar in all its forms.

Not necessary. I only work on and make ukuleles and electric basses. More then 4 strings I charge double.... keeps the guitarists away pretty good😂... 12 string get charged triple.

I did exactly this. I've spent the last year training at a luthier course and have just finished my first guitar. Best thing I ever did.

@Textra1 amazing! Which training did you do?
@Textra1Ай бұрын
@@daddouuuu I did a local course on the east coast of Australia, near Newcastle. The guy runs classes out of his workshop. I built an electric guitar to start with. A flying v based on the original 1958 Korina V specs. When I can afford to continue, I will build a nylon string acoustic next. I imagine that will be much more challenging.

I worked for John Caruthers in California for a short period, mostly finishing guitars. He worked at Fender most notebly and he showed me how to do setups and fret dressing as well. Does that make me a luthier?😮

Yes.

In Germany, until 2012 you needed a masters Training and License which was tested by the Chamber of Woodworking. :D

I live in italy, if other luthiers here hear you say "you can learn by watching youtube videos" they are going to call the police. Anyway i think it absolutely possobile, and i learned a lot from your videos as well! And will keep watching!

Networking with industry professionals is the most important part of the game, knowledge, connections, growth... a course will get you some skills, experience and networking takes alot of time, there are no huge shortcuts

The lick you said was your favorite reminds me of a lick he plays in the middle solo on "Go, Love" which is my favorite lick in that song.

I just want to know how to find people that want to pay $5000 for a custom made guitar and be able to sell 10-20 a year. I’m confident I can figure out better processes along the way, but right now I don’t know if I can make half of what I do as an engineer. I’d really appreciate it if you made a video on how you got your first customers and built your business.

You need to build a reputation. Start by building part time and promote your work on social media. Eventually you may find the clients who will gladly pay $5,000+ for a guitar made to their liking.

When it comes to career oriented adult occupational training, I think Roberto-Venn is the best deal out there.

Nothing beats doing it over and over until you learn how to do it right. Books and videos can help you get started, but experience is the best teacher.

@@HighlineGuitars I have been thinking of changing careers at some point in my life. I love music, I play guitar, bass and keyboards. Working on them sounds like something I would enjoy for sure. I have even thought of buying cheap guitars to experiment and get a felling. 😊
