It works well for some people, but there are those that like a more hands-on approach. This is why it is so important to find a coach that can suit your personal way of training and is able to invest the time to get the best out of you. When people ask me the best place to train in China I typically answer that it isn't about the place, it is about the coach. The right coach can make all the difference in the world. :-)

thanks heaps for sharing so much wushu insight from top athletes. so when Yang Yu Hong refers to protecting ankles, does he mean focus on explosive power in calf muscles?
@WushuAdventures11 жыл бұрын
Right on. it is one of those things that your learn after having the experience. When I first started I didn't realize how lucky I was to find a coach that matched my own personality well. After having been to a few different places I see how much of a difference it makes. Who is your coach now, if you don't mind me asking?

You're welcome. I think he means developing the calf and supporting ankle muscles so that it can both help you push off explosively, but more important, so that you can land safely and absorb the impact.

Good topics. I'd suggest a topic of the relationship between taolu and sanda.

sure....my coach now is Mr. Wang Yang Hai. If you search "1990 Asian Games Wushu Changquan Hong Kong athlete" he is the one wearing the pink silks. the website is wacentre.com. I tried really hard to see if i can train with the hk team....but they are not as open as the mainland chinese it seems. I've seen a few members of the HK team/crew....i sense quite a bit of ego tbh. so i am glad I found my coach.

Actually he is one of (if not the most) respected wushu coaches in HK. But he favours teaching kids rather than concentrate on the HK team. and tbh....his personality really shows! lol...he is a funny guy. really down to earth. you have been to HK b4 right? which wushu guys did you meet? anyone from HK team?

Yeah, it is really hard to train with the team unless you are friends with one of the coaches. I only got in a couple times because I'm friends with a coach, but I probably wouldn't train there full time. I prefer the mainland training locations, but not for any specific reason. Just my feeling. If you found a good wushu coach in Hong Kong then you are lucky indeed. Next time I'm down there I'll pay you guys a visit and maybe we can go get some bubble tea or something. :-)

Ooooh. Wang Yang Hai. Sure .. I know who that is. Young Yip Man. ;-) He Jing De and I were talking about him when I was down there a couple weeks ago. I haven't seen the movie he was in though. I'm thinking of the right guy, aren't I? He was in the Yip Man prequel movie? It sure looks like him, if it isn't. But I think I got it right. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

His English is pretty good for someone who is self-taught too. When I saw him a few years ago he couldn't speak at all. Then he had some people training at his school who spoke English and he started focusing on it a bit more. He's made a lot of progress in a short time. Cantonese is definitely not for everyone. I just learned enough for day-to-day living, but I'm hardly conversational.

Sure. I lived in Hong Kong for 2 years. I know a few of the HK Team members and coaches. Some better than others, of course. Most of the people I'm friends with were from the mainland. I am not as familiar with the locally grown talent.

LOL..no mate..He hasnt told me anything about that. I think I know who you THINK looks like him. the guy in the movie wearing a white suite...right? if so...no thats not him. However as you can see in his website he has worked with celebs before like Nicolas Tse. If you ever come down to HK let me know and i can introduce you. Our class's standard is not as high as you would think. Wushu in HK is really dying....really sad. because kids do it so they can put it in their portfolio as an activity.

forgot to mention....Yang Yu Hong's English is pretty damn good despite the fact that he lives in China where hardly anyone speaks english. at least he can converse....unlike me. but hey....then again...i really dont like cantonese...sooo...there you go...my excuse. haha
@OldSkoolLegend11 жыл бұрын
I actually understand alot of cantonese....its just....you know when you dont like the sound of a language? it makes you NOT want to speak it....cuz in a way you feel embarrassed to come out with such aggressive sounding words. but putonghua i think is a beautiful language.....MAN WHY AM I IN HK??? LOL. once i spent two weeks in Taipei and just because of my interest i learnt ALOT of putonghua.
