Emptying your garage onto your driveway is risky business in my area. I did that and suddenly there were 20 people asking "How much for this?" LOL. Nope, not a garage sale, just cleaning 😂 youguys are amazing ❤

Its been 9 months since my husband passed away and I started watching your channel. I am still plugging along getting rid of stuff, thankfully we have a lot of thrift stores here and in fact one gives you points for each bag you bring in a couple weeks ago those points turned in to $7 off my purchase in their store. I used that to buy a couple t shirts to replace old ratty ones. Its hard to resist going in to the thrift stores when I donate but I have managed to resist. There are heavy duty items in my basement that belonged to husband Table Saw for one I mentioned it to my husbands boss today that I was going to hire 1 800 Junk to bring it up and get rid of it, he said "Oh No don't do that I have a guy who'll do it for free" so one more big item will soon be out of my basement. I'm 61 and not able to lift heavy items I am thankful. Decluttering is going slower than I would like but I'm getting there thanks to videos like yours that show how. Thank you. Anna In Ohio

Anna, I am proud of you. I just worked on decluttered my ADHD mom’s house and have taken a short break after being 80% through the first pass in the rooms. We filled a dumpster +30 bags of trash while cleaning out six rooms, and have two remaining rooms. Plus a 2.5 car garage that hasn’t been opened in ten years. It goes quicker when you can allow friends to help you. They see the burden you carry and feel called to help lighten the load a bit.

I have never been a good housekeeper, and struggled for many years with my inability to keep my things in order. However, when I came out of cancer treatment two years ago my whole appartment was nearly morbidly cluttered and dirty from all those days that I had spent on the couch, feeling exhausted and tired. My sister came to the rescue and we took our time cleaning and decluttering. One room after another, we went through boxes, bags and lonely items, things that had been put away into oblivion, and even if I was often embarrassed (sp?) it was a huge relief. Since then I have been able to put to use my sister's rule of "each item into it's place and a place for every item", mostly. To keep up keeping up, I so do love watching your videos, for they are a constant funny and witty reminder that I am not a hopelessly lazy person. I have since then been able to mostly avoid buying crap and things that will just stand in the way and fill up space. In Germany, there is an expression for this, "Stehrümchen" , little things that sit on your shelves, desks and tables and simply take up space and serve no purpose whatsoever. Less clutter is a load off my shoulders... My sister has managed to be respectful and helpful at the same time, much like you and Jason are. Thank you for that.

Your grasp of someone living with ADHD is awesome. Even though many of us have learned to compensate and manage our lives effectively , there are often some areas like this where we get overwhelmed. Non-judgemental help is a godsend! It's not that we pay no attention, it's that we pay too much attention, which often turns prioritization efforts into a shambles. Thanks for your kindness❤

As someone with AuDHD (the doom piles + emotional attachment to every object is a killer combo) this little series has been extremely helpful to me. @@debpratt52 I know how that attachment can feel. It's tough to get rid of things you relate to certain people or certain memories. My friend recommended a certain method I think Marie Kondo teaches, which is to give the items you're getting rid of a funeral. Set aside some time to honor the good they've done for you or the things they mean to you, and allow you to let them go.

I don't have a big enough house for all of my crap (I have literally had dreams where I find out that I secretly have a huge basement). What I have done is gotten a storage space. That way things I don't need everyday can go into the storage unit (extra chairs for when I have guests, old flatscreen TVs that still work). Things I don't need all the time but just can't part with? into the storage unit. Since it is not in my house it's is one less pile I have to look at everyday but it is there if I need it. It has been so amazing and only about $70-ish a month. If you can afford it and have one that isn't super far away it is worth it. I have ADHD.

I like cleaning and keeping things tidy (though I do have many computer parts i been organizing and scaling down for the past few months), but I understand I can't impose the way I do things onto others. 200% with not surprise cleaning. When I was about 11yrs old, I thought I would try to help my mum by doing the dishes and loading up the dishwasher. She freaked out, redid the entire thing and I got in trouble for cleaning. It was probably the 1st inkling I had that she was not sane. That you can handle dealing with these issues makes you worthy of so much respect. It is really hard to cope with these things on the day to day. Kudos to Jason on the door and his impending bondage. Sorry, parenthood.

I have not only learned so much about myself (every description makes perfect sense to me) but understand how it had affected my life . I’m definitely going to forward this to my children so that they understand me better. I was incredibly fortunate to have stumbled across your videos, I was hooked from day one and I can now see light at the end of tunnel. I was drowning with boxes 📦 and each time I looked into them ‘needed’ everything.. I could not breathe, I was berating myself every day which is exhausting 😮.. I have taken your advice and ran with it and now (after such a short time) I can see my floor. I have light coming in and yes even though I don’t want to I open my curtains every day.. I didn’t bother before. A million thanks ❤❤❤

I’m learning so much from you about ADHD. I remember I went on a trip that kept me away from home 5 weeks. When I arrived home it was too a pristinely clean and tidied space. My mother had totally revamped my space. She did this thinking she was helping me. I was really upset for a long time, not because of her kindness but because in my mind I could no longer find things. I always feel like a failure because my environment is always a mess and no matter how much effort I put into keeping things neat and tidy I am never successful in maintaining that. I get bogged down by what I call “stuff” in my life. Jokingly, I tell people that I'm sure in a past life I had servants that dealt with everything.” The other aspect of my behaviours that I can relate to is never finishing anything. In a previous video I remember you mentioning that people with ADHD can start projects but commonly don’t finish them. If you give me a deadline on a project, I almost come to a stand still. Thankfully this does not occur when I have bills to pay. I am seeking therapy to help me with all of this. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support!

I love watching your video's. I get inspired to go clean up my home and find areas where I need to get rid of stuff. It's hard to get started cleaning or motivated to get rid of clutter when you are overwhelmed and tired to begin with and this helps to motiviate me to do that.

Your videos keep me going - since I cannot be a member right now, I find myself rationing them. Even stuff I already *know* to do, your voice (voices) take it from overwhelming chore to falsetto box talk (gosh that description sounds like a whole other kinda dirty😂) My heart has been breaking because the "fruncle" I was helping had promised to see a therapist as a condition of my helping him, but he didn't. Now as Springtime gets into gear and he is inspired to plant gardens with all this space he now has, he is accusing me every day of having stolen or thrown away things I never would have, nor allowed anyone else to take (I checked every bag). But there was much out in THE YARD that was plastic decayed by sunlight into bits, or metal fencing decayed into dangerous sharp bits, boxes and bags of former seeds eaten to shreds and converted into poops, or that got full of water and turned to slime. I asked permission on what could be tossed, and only tossed things that fit that category. I have offered to replace his "organic seeds" with the organic seeds I bought, but they aren't his seeds. He accused me of stealing his pole bean posts - I offered to get him new ones, but he then informed me they were Locust trees he had grown himself for post wood because it would last 100 years. First of all, I would have recognized bare wood locust tree posts. Second of all, I don't know how he imagines I could have lifted trees - they took my woman parts, two lymph nodes and half my breast last year & I'm still not right. The guys cutting only cut and hauld the wood from the piles he approved of. Did we do our best to work when he wasn't there in order to be able to meet the Inspector's deadline so he wouldn't lose his home? You betcha - because seeing anything moved, or removed was too traumatic for him - but we followed the rules he laid out. Folks with hoarder relatives you love & want to help? Learn from my mistake! Therapy is key, and he did not follow through as he agreed to, so here we are, and I cannot take it anymore, as I have an excruciating ¼" (1 cm) iron splinter in my foot that I got from working in his yard that will need surgery one day; and two of my new tires have slow leaks from driving over sharp stuff under his leaves. It's all no skin off his nose, not to mention he only paid $700 out of the $10k in expenses that it cost to do what we did (2 professional estimates stated it would have cost over $25k to do what we did - and he didn't let us finish). On top of all that, his nastiness arrives as I'm now dealing with my late mother's house, where there is a spot in the carpet where she died and I find I can neither walk on it nor clean it and her whole hoard is just breaking me - so many choices & decisions - and now my best friend from College has just come out of remission from the incredibly rare disease that nearly killed her 20 years ago and doctors are not offering much hope. (I know there *is* hope because you don't get a voice out of the blue telling you to go get tested when you are feeling fine unless "do it now" means you got some more living to do.) I just am pulled opposite directions because I absolutely must get this house clear for a visit from an advisor this week, but I also need to drive an hour away to be with her so she's taken care of, and I actually yanked out my own hair the other day when my bank's credit card people called unexpectedly with *ANOTHER* screw up & more fees when I have been *trying* to be a good credit person & deal with this card for a year since the day of my actual surgery (got the call as I was going in) but they keep screwing with me - this time finally getting Autopay connected - but to my savings not my checking. Honestly, I now have PTSD attacks any time the phone rings and it's them. I waste so much time on the phone being assaulted by physically painful music, and the intrusion of automated voices that jar you into thinking a human has arrived - making it so I cannot focus to get anything else done. SOOOOOOO....Yes, your videos are keeping my head above water. My Mom's house looked comparatively empty (her husbands' kids emptied most of it) but there is still soooo much. The two of us cannot work fast enough to afford a dumpster, but five (5) hefties of fabric to a teen learning to design dresses today, 2 giant township garbage cans full (three contractor bags stomped in and two hefties perched sticking out of each) to the helpful refuse-collector who emptied one from my driveway, then told me to refill it and park the bin across the street: A shout out THANK YOU TO COMPASSIONATE REFUSE COLLECTORS EVERYWHERE! We sent 4 totally stuffed carloads to the Veteran's thrift before that. We now have 3 rooms empty & half the basement! I take a long drag on my MMC, turn the key, and dig in, shooshing Mooses and Elk out the way while fending of rabid mineral monsters with only a toilet brush and Lysol in the Black Bottle. "💩But I like it in this toilet bowl, MMC Fan!" "But you ain't payin' rent, ugly toilet stain!" "Oh, nooooo! Not the Black Bottle!"😱😱😱😱 "That's right -- you look like poop, so you need to flush outta here -- be gone poopyhead toiletbowl mineral stain!" F-L-U-S-HHHHHH! "Aaaaaaaaggghhhhhh!" Toilet bowl clear for inspection. So suck it! Thanks again, Mack!

Mack, I love this consolidation! ❤. It’s what I try to do about twice a year when my husband has done DIY in our house. Once he has finished, he dumps whatever tools, paint trays etc into plastic bags in our small garage “out of the way” then forgets about them. They then build up so I can’t walk through the garage, which is the only access into our back garden ( we live in a terraced house in the UK) and I’m always screaming “ I just want to be able to walk through the garage!!” Fortunately the “moose 🐁 loose about our hoose” in our country are much smaller than your USA “bigger is better” ones, so they take up less room in our garage, ( and they don’t talk!) but they do like to make nests in old shoes and last time, I found an old trainer (sneaker) filled with peanuts that a wee mouse had stolen from our bird table! We have a very good reason for completely clearing the garage soon, as the council is going to close the local dump soon, so this will be our final chance to get rid of stuff we have been holding onto for too long, “just in case”. Thanks Mack and family for all you do!! ❤

Sage advice. I believe any cleaning or maintenance on the home is never a waste of time or effort. One mustn't believe chores to be fruitless or an exercise in futility. A chore describes 'a turn, an occasion, a movement, the return or coming around again of a time'. They are a natural part of life. We cannot let the crippling thoughts of pessimism prevent us from having a go, or making an attempt. That straighten up, clear out 'spring clean' can work wonders for your brain and body like a breath of fresh air, better than any drug or treat. Who knows what breakthroughs might occur with an individual during those few weeks of clarity?

@@Miss_Toots You know what they mean. Proper grammar is not required on social media. I would like to leave this here for you to mull over... The purpose of communication in any form is to be understood by the person your communicating to. So, as long as you can figure out what's meant on social media, leave the grammar alone. Now, the atrocious email I got from my doctor's office? Oh yeah, she's going to hear about that grammar/punctuation mess. That's a professional seeing. Totally different scenario.

@@thecatsmeowfromny I made it clear in my response that I understand this. Reread it for better comprehension. This is not the case here. She is one letter off . If you can't understand by context clues, you have no right to be grammar policing anyone. Her point is crystal clear. Also, help is only help if asked for otherwise it's about you not them.

@@thecatsmeowfromnyit depends where the person is from. Here in the south , a true born and raised individual sometimes pronounce words that are hard to understand. Example: a man came into Walmart and asked my friend who worked in the health and beauty section where the profin pails were. She is from Minnesota and had to ask him 2 times because his accent was so thick. Finally she took him to cleaning supplies and showed him the pails. Not what he wanted. When he told her what they were for, she realized he wanted ibuprofen pills. Another individual put an ad in the newspaper selling “ chester drawers”. We know it’s not suppose to be funny, but it is.

I love Post 10. He has more respect for this planet than any other person I can think of. He found a mound of trash (old tires, a car bumper, a three-piece couch, etc.) that someone had just dumped out in the country and I think it actually caused him physical pain to see that. He moved as much as he could move by himself and got it out by the side of the road so a highway crew could pick it up and haul it away and his comment was that "Some low-class individual dumped this stuff here." He simply could not comprehend how anyone could treat their environment with this level of disrespect.

Amazing as always. One thing I do with boxes knowing that any labels of contents won't stay trutful is to number them and take a photo of the insides before closing them (with the number in the picture). Then you can make decisions later about what to throw/give/retrieve without having to climb into the piles in the storage. Just "I need to find box 7 and 12".

Our garage has a long way to go yet, but your videos are helping me find ways to deal with the madness while hopefully not being as intensely overwhelmed. I suspect it would add way too much time to your task, but I will say that using a label maker and printing labels for all 4 sides of my tubs with just the general idea of contents (baking supplies, party supplies, electronics, etc) has helped a lot. Even with clear tubs the “out of sight, out of mind” issue gets us some, so labels kind of keep it more “in sight”. Just an idea to add in for others with ADHD and other disorders that’s helped my household. Thanks for the cleaning tips, too, I’ve been using pretty much all of them! ❤

I always label all four sides of totes and boxes, as well as the lids/tops. Since permanently damaging my back, I have to rely on my kids to fetch and carry for me. I'm thinking of labeling the shelves, too, so that things get returned to their proper place instead of getting plunked in the middle of the floor because, "I couldn't remember where it goes." 🤦‍♀️
