Although one can possess great affection and care for another (especially family), nonetheless, we must love them for who they have become rather than what we wish for them to be - no matter how much we perceive them to suffer and how much we might suffer as consequence. Also critical is to never force them into yielding to our ideals for them (after all, their life is far from ours to live). All we can do is live our life "by example" and perhaps from that, they will eventually awaken and take a genuine interest in lessening their suffering. Directly asking for our help is the key. Only then can we assist in compassionately guiding them towards the resolutions that already exist within them (we never do anything for or to them).

When JK says "I can't let him go", is he speaking hypothetically, to illustrate what most of us feel, or is he speaking for himself?

Am I wrong or this was recorded before K explained why he had no problem : "I don't care what happens. I don't demand anything from life" ?
