“I actually prefer to work under stressful or pressurized conditions because this is when I am at my best.
I handle stress and pressure by focusing on the task in hand, by remaining calm and by creating lists of what needs to be done and in what order. For example, a work colleague recently went off sick and my manager needed a volunteer to carry out her work whilst she was absent. I agreed to be that person.
To make sure I handled the stress that came with doing two jobs at once, I obtained a clear brief from manager, I created a list of what needed to be done and by what timescale, and I focused intently on each task without any distractions.
I also handle stress and pressure by making sure I keep myself fit and healthy. I eat well and I visit the gym three times a week. By doing these things it enables me to maintain optimum concentration levels whilst at work.”

If the interviewer followed up by asking what would you do if the pressure/stress got too much, how would you respond? I'd be inclined to say I'd want to draw on those things that I find restorative (e.g. sport, family, friends), and say that I wouldn't be ashamed to seek guidance from colleagues? i guess this is one of my weaknesses. I am not good in handling pressure. For the sake of the interview, this will be my answer. First, I am a positive person. So, I guess this really helps a lot. To me, being stressed means you are achieving your goal in a limited time. To handle this, I will focus on what is next if you achieve the goal. It would mean that I can do the job that the company has trusted me if I will achieve the aht and good quality of the call. Since I am grateful to the company for supporting me financially and professionally, this would mean success to me. So to handle this, I would focus on the goal and think backward about how I can achieve the aht and good quality of the call. Thus I will make sure that I will forgot the unnecessary problems outside of my job whenever I am working. I will see to it that I will start my job on time and be prepared for any possible problems that my customer would have for the day. As much as possible I would review the items that will be televised during my shift and I will see to it that I will utilize my systems properly to save more time.

Hi, thanks for your comment and question :) You're not alone here, many people end up going down a different career path to their degree. The important thing here is to turn it into a positive. You can say how the degree subject is a passion of yours but also focus on how you are different from when you first chose that subject to learn (you would likely have only been 17 after all) and you hadn't necessarily always seen yourself just following that career path (if true). You can focus on the skills you learnt from your degree (particularly the transferrable ones) and how they will benefit the role you are applying to in the Civil Service. For example, most degrees provide you with: analytical skills, time management skills, research skills, communication skills (written, oral, presentational), and organisational ability etc,. These are great skills to show off to the employer and just by completing the degree, it shows you have good commitment and perseverance. This is also a good opportunity to say you are always open for change and can adapt really well. I hope this helps :)
