Yes, I agree with not saying you are nervous, I've never thought about saying it even though I do get bad anxiety. Hey, we are all human and I think everyone is nervous, it's only natural. But yes don't say it, they'll see it anyway. Just be yourself. A little trick I've done recently in the last couple interviews is I take a Melatonin gummy about a half hour before the interview. It really relaxes me, I know they are for sleep, but it also has a great calming effect, and I don't actually get sleepy.

I said “I’m nervous and excited” in the interview, my interviewer said that’s good to know - shows that you care about this. If you weren’t feeling anything, I’d be disappointed. I don’t have the job yet but let’s see.. also important note this was an internal interview - in the same company in another region, so these people already know me. Edit: I didn’t get the job, but not because I said I was nervous but they were looking for someone with a more technical experience.

Your suggested question number 1 to ask at the end of the interview really impressed when I had a job interview. I did not get the position, but the manager rang me afterwards and told me to reapply if a similar position came up. A similar position has come up now a year later (which I applied for) and the same manager personally phoned me to ask me to interview for the position (she normally lets her HR team handle interview schedules, but she remembered me from my interview and I remember at that time, she was very impressed with this question and I believe this is why she has personally checked in with me about interviewing again). I am hopeful and confident about getting the job this time around.

Q6 rang a bell with me. Major mistake saying you are a perfectionist with me as a hiring manager. It is canned and I won't believe you. And no perfectionist is going to last long in this high paced environment even if it is an honest answer. Public speaking...especially if unemployed with time on your hands, join Toastmasters. Maybe one hour per week? Great investment. For the last 2 (and I still struggle with these even after following this advice), take project management courses and work toward your PMP. If you choose something to improve yourself during this time, it looks good and heck you are improving yourself! Just choose something that you can scale back on if that great job lands in your lap. How does honesty work? Not being honest on answers, but being yourself, being authentic? Does that work or do you have to pretend to be who they want you to be? The thing is, I have been practising and it is doing my head in. I am at the stage where I am just going to be me. I have the skills, I can do the job. Should I robotically learn answers and memorise them or just remember a handful of facts and then answer honestly?
