"How do we know a Christian" I'm surprised that anyone that only believes what the Bible says wouldn't know the correct answer to that. I'd say if anyone could give a description of what a Christian is it would be the inspired writers of the New Testament. So let's start here, according to the CoC a man can have faith enough to move a mountain, repent, confess Jesus as Lord and believe in the work Jesus did on the cross and yet he is still a child of the devil and damned to hell for eternity until he is baptized. Alright we know how the CoC says we can tell who is a Christian - BY IF HE IS BAPTIZED. Now let's examine how the inspired writers of the NT describe who is saved or a Christian. I've listed below a few verses (I've left off almost 30 more from the Gospels) below where saved people are being referred to and a very few more where unsaved people are being referred to. I've looked all through the NT but have yet to come up with a verse that refers to saved people as THE BAPTIZED and unsaved people as THE UNBAPTIZED. The NT seems to refer to them as BELIEVERS and UNBELIEVERS for some strange reason when we know that there is absolutely no difference between them until baptism. I'll wait for your book, chapter and verse on THE BAPTIZED and a explanation as to why inspired writers would make such a mistake. Act 2:44 And all that BELIEVED were together, and had all things common; Act 4:4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word BELIEVED; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
Act 4:32 And the multitude of them that BELIEVED were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
Act 5:14 And BELIEVERS were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)
Act 9:42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many BELIEVED in the Lord.
Act 10:45 And they of the circumcision which BELIEVED were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 11:17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who BELIEVED on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
Act 11:21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number BELIEVED, and turned unto the Lord.
Act 13:12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, BELIEVED, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.
Act 13:39 And by him all that BELIEVE are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
Act 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life BELIEVED. Act 14:1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks BELIEVED
Act 14:23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they BELIEVED. Act 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which BELIEVED, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
Act 17:4 And some of them BELIEVED, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
Act 17:12 Therefore many of them BELIEVED; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
Act 17:34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and BELIEVED: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
Act 18:27 And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had BELIEVED through grace:
Act 19:18 And many that BELIEVED came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.
Act 21:20 And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which BELIEVE; and they are all zealous of the law:
Act 21:25 As touching the Gentiles which BELIEVE, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.
Act 28:24 And some BELIEVED the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
Act 22:19 And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that BELIEVED on thee:
1Co 3:5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye BELIEVED, even as the Lord gave to every man?
1Co 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have BELIEVED in vain.
2Co 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that BELIEVETH with an infidel (unbeliever)?
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have BELIEVED in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye BELIEVED, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
1Th 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that BELIEVE.
2Th 1:10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that BELIEVE (because our testimony among you was BELIEVED) in that day.
1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of THEM WHICH BELIEVE and know the truth.
1Ti 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the BELIEVERS, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
Tit 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have BELIEVED in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
Heb 4:3 For we which have BELIEVED do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall senter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. ---- UNBELIEF - WHY SAY UNBELIEF, UNBELIEVERS, ETC WHEN THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BELIEVERS AND UNBELIEVERS UNTIL BAPTISM
Rom 11:23 And they also, if they abide not still in UNBELIEF, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. 1Co 6:6 But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the UNBELIEVERS.
1Co 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or UNBELIEVERS, will they not say that ye are mad? Heb 4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of UNBELIEF:
2Co 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that BELIEVETH with an infidel (unbeliever)?
Heb 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of UNBELIEF.

Good you believe then you must obey his words. John 8:30-32 CSB As he was saying these things, many believed in him. [31] Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, "If you continue in my word, you really are my disciples. [32] You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." Here would have been a great time to say you believe you have eternal life. But he didn’t he said hold to my teachings.

The bible being the word of God and God wants all to come unto him and be saved, why is the bible so ambiguous? Why is it necessary to interpret the bible? Why is the bible interpreted in so many different ways? Why are there so many different denominations in Christianity? How is it possible that God's chosen people will not go to heaven according to the new testament?

Jesust said that spirit gives birth to spirit and flesh gives birth to flesh ie a living being gives birth, a non living thing cannot give birth, so water doesn't give birth to a living being, you have to harmonize all the verses, moreover even of yours Aaron said that the water doesn't really make you born again but it's the point at which you become born again, this shows confusion in the church of Christ doctrine, people don't really know what you mean by baptism saves you,

Faith itself is a work. It takes effort. Ephesians 2:8&9… Good is commanding belief, therefore faith is a work. James 2:17 states that faith without works is dead, verse 20 states the same thing, verse 21 states that Abraham’s faith was justified by works. Read James 2:17-26.. We are not saved by works alone, and not by faith alone, it all connects with eachother to complete the plan of salvation: Hear the word, Believe the word, Repent of your sins, Confess Jesus as the Son of God, Be Baptized for remission of sins, Live a faithful life

I'm listening to it now, but you're probably right about them thinking it's a work that saves you. That's how I was taught growing up. But baptism isn't a work of man. It's a work of God. These guys are false teachers and legalists, but Scripturally, God does work through baptism. Salvation is by grace through faith, but God uses means of grace as a gift to us. Baptism is supposed to be passive action a time wear we figuratively go limp and die to ourselves, trusting in God through faith. Colossians 2:12 is an awesome verse.

All these scriptures are what the Holy Spirit brought forth for us to obey. As for Ephesians 2:8-9 I believe all that it says, did you know that the Ephesians were baptized and converted in Acts ch19? I don't see any examples in the New Testament about baptism being as you say "it's an outward sign of an inward change to the community and the public". The first thing one should observe is that the baptism of the Holy Spirit was never given as a command to be administered by man, nor was it to be obeyed by man. The baptism of the Holy Spirit was a promise to be received by certain men chosen for a certain purpose. When Jesus spoke on the subject between His resurrection and His ascension, He appeared to the chosen apostles, speaking to them things concerning the kingdom of God (Acts 1:1-3). Among the things spoken to them were the following words: “ … wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” {He said,} “you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” (Acts 1:4-5 NAS). Overjoyed at this statement they asked, “ … Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6 NAS). To this question Jesus replied with the following promise, “ … It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth” (Acts 1:7-8 NAS). It is clear that while John could and did baptize in water it was Christ, and only Christ, who would baptize with the Holy Spirit. Another fundamental thing to be noticed here is that John did not mean to include all disciples, with reference to being baptized in the Holy Spirit; neither did he mean that all of the multitude, which heard him, would receive the baptism of fire. He simply made a prophetic declaration, regarding these matters, to the multitudes that heard him.

@@kac0404 Ya baptism was because Jesus was a Jew and He participating in Jewish tradition. He came to fulfill the law. It is a commandment from God because of it's importance to our sanctification.

I also find it amusing that you planning a rebuttal. LOL! First you lie, now you're trying to defend that lie against the Word of God and not my words. Yeah, good luck with your so-called rebuttal. Again, Jesus told his disciples to go in the world teaching and baptizing IN THE NAME OF the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Jesus never said to administer Holy Spirit baptism. That's where you're straight up lying and besides, Jesus was the only one who could administer the baptism of the Holy Ghost and he administered it to the disciples. Rebuttal? Not a chance. Then again, you probably won't read this comment anyway.

Forgiveness of sins or Remission of sins is the same thing. We are forgiven of our sins when we trust in what Jesus Christ did on the cross. This sentence could read; "Baptism is 'for' (Meaning because of) the forgiveness of our sins, and we are forgiven of our sins when we trust in Jesus Christ. Therefore we SHOULD be baptized". "Billy the kid: Wanted 'for' (Meaning because of) the Murder of Johnny Farm". We should be baptized 'for' (Meaning because of) the forgiveness of our sins. What I am saying is this; It is because we are already forgiven in faith 'for' (Meaning because of) what Jesus Christ did on the Cross. That is what baptism is for. It is an outward expression of an inward faith. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him will not die. But have everlasting life." End of the statement. Everlasting is everlasting. All it takes is a mustard my friends.

BAPTISM IS UNION WITH CHRIST IN HIS DEATH, HIS BURIAL, AND HIS RESURRECTION. Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:3-4) BAPTISM IS A NEW BIRTH. Jesus answered, “Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.” (John 3:5) BAPTISM IS A WASHING AWAY OF SIN. And now why do you delay? Get up, be baptized, and have your sins washed away, calling on his name. (Acts 22:16) He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. (Titus 3:5)

We have one word that can have two meanings in English language. "For." Go to the store FOR milk (future tense). He's in jail FOR robbery. (past tense). However the Greek language has 2 words for each usage and meaning (Unto/forward looking) and the other meaning (because of). The Greek word used in this verse is 'eis' which carries the meaning forward tense 'unto/to obtain.' Baptism is UNTO the remission of sins is the literal Greek meaning and usage. Our motivation however is by faith 'because of' what Christ did, put the purpose of baptism is clear in that is where the blood of Christ is spiritually applied to our sins washing them away, remitting, removing them and placing us INTO Christ PUTTING ON Christ.
