I use the 127% Fib extension and it touches that level 90% all of my trades. To me 127% is the best Fib extension in terms of getting to my profit target without any worries

Thank you so much! I have been exiting trades too early and missing out on profit. I think this teaching tutorial will make things much improved for me since you go over 4 different approaches. 👍👍

For me it's the opposite. Most of my analyses are right, but my TP was to high and after some time it went down again and hit my SL. So most of the time I see when some are going up, only my TP's are not hitting.

This is immensely useful, Rayner! Currently, I am using the daily close below/above the 20EMA, & also shifting my SL according to the structure of market,( just as you've described!) as my exit strategies in a Trend Following trading approach. Thank you so much again and really loving this new Ask Rayner Series! ")

If it's a winning trade, I exit at an area of new or previous value. If it's a losing trade, my stop is hit just outside an area of previous value. My trades are typically 1hr or less, Just to give a little context on my style.

Rayner, I have been using the methods that you explained. My problem is on the position trading where I want to exit on structural change or violation of structure. If I am trading using the one-hour time frame, should I be sticking to that one-hour time frame while waiting for the change of structure or should I go on a lower time frame to detect the change of structure as both may occur at different price. Is it true that I will get a better price or earlier exit if I go on lower timeframe.

I dont quite agree on taking partial profit. My thought process is that if I'm taking full lost when I'm on the wrong side of the trade , I'm damn well taking the full profit if I'm right. I cant really comprehend why we are more incline to cut short our profit but are willing to full lost. In long term, I dont think its a winning strategy. We can agree to disagree...

As a poker player who does poker for a living i like your logic i follow and actually agree with this. In poker my stop loss is what your logic is. I play very long sessions when winning and i quit sooner when losing. So when im winning i might play 12 hours straight but if i am losing i might play 2 hours take a break and come back.
@janpec107 жыл бұрын
Not true at all. There is a variable that you can not control called the retrace/failure when you are in profitable trade, at any point of being in profit you dont know whether price will countiniue towards your TP or fall towards BE or SL, thats why taking chips of the table is actually adressing that issue. What you do is you take in few portions profits of (ie 20 or 30% close per each R distance), at the end you still gather the same R of profits that you would with fixed TP, the only thing that changes is that with partial closing your overall full max TP is larger than with fixed. But the end point is you do not know whether price will reach that max fix TP, nor do you know if it would reach your static TP if you are not taking profits of the table. If your aim is 5R on profits, you take partial profits in a way that you end up with 5R no matter what.

I quit my session if I'm playing bad/tilting or I'm tired. Variance is variance, just because u skip 2 hours the variance will be the same and you continue to lose if you are on the wrong side of the variance at that day. Btw this has nothing to do with taking profits at certain price targets.
@bslay4r6 жыл бұрын
Because trading is not about winning but not losing your capital and you can't preserve your capital if you don't take partial profits because markets can do anything at any time, the market don't care if you are right or wrong. If you take partial profit for example at the previous swing high (highly recommended) you adjust your cost position, you won't take that big of a hit if the price goes back and stops you out. You know markets don't just move through support and resistance levels like they are not even there, 99% of the time they acknowledge it.
@daniel-blessmannjoroge64835 жыл бұрын
This is tha craziest approach I have never seen, reward yoself as tha market move by scaling out with some profit, if you in a loss you can cut yo loss by scaling out out of yo positions thus minimizing amount of capital on risk.

You should exit a trade when its a winner. You should take the trade off as soon as its profitable. If its a loser you wait until its a winner than you exit. If the loser is causing you to worry than that position was to big for your account, if the loser is looking like its just to far against you, you close the trade and move on. The key to trading is to trade small and often. Its as simple as that!!

@@sour3000 closing early is signs of someone that doesn't know the market. closing a trade and then it going 100 more pips isn't a good trader
