Hi BBC, I absolutely enjoyed this video and loved it, but I can't actually agree that we don't have to learn every single word in English , because it's my favourite thing in my whole life to pick up words and write them and keep them forever in my mind 🤤🤤 and my brain incredibly always prepared to receive new words that as they go inside it they are captured forever 👍👍👍👍💕💕💕💕💕

When it comes to learning a language. Vocabulary is extremely important. You may use bad grammar, but without vocabulary you can't do anything. The more words you know, the more you can say. The more grammar you know, the better you can say it or even write it.

That's what I prefer with. As the korean, i now again began studying english and tried to be conformed to this context of the representation, despite i broke off few years ago with the reason that i had the another personal business which i had to entrust. now my indication of my sentence looks and sounds really inarticulate and misunderstood. in korea, my homeland, on a regular basis i ve absorbed the other contents like the video of this channal, any news channal and individual channal which is managed by the American geopolitics scholar(if possible, i don wanna express the name.). Nevertheless, i couldn't reach my level of fluency and naturality of my linguistic talent to the normal top. I ve only recognized it was caused from my insufficiency of trying hard. Besides i dont exactly notice how to store the vocabulary well although i memorize the word book like ,.etc.

7,000 languages in the world? This is amazing. I'm a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker. English is my second language (I'm still struggle to learn and improve my English language skills). At this moment, I'm also trying to learn Romanian, that is a Romance Language as Portuguese. I know I make a lot of mistakes in English, but I really love learn different language. BBC helps me so much. Thank you!

We once heard that "the greatest mistake you can make is never making a mistake". Trying and learning new things will inevitably end up in a few mistakes. But, we learn from those mistakes and use them to become better people. Keep studying hard with Romanian and English - we know that with enough effort and time you will be able to achieve all the goals you are aiming for. 💪

3:08 , please let me comment on the most frequent 1000 words theory. I am a government interpreter for mandarin language(which is my 4th foreign language), and come across various situations where the words are new to me, even though, I have mastered at least 5000 words. When I am with my french friends they do not always use the frequent 1000 words, moreover, in case of deep conversations we tend to use rare vocabulary. The simple things we see every day are not included in these 1000 words, thus we may often not be able to communicate proficiently. According to all these years of observation, I would suggest the learners to definitely learn the 1000 frequent words, however, they should not forget to practice every single day. For example, reading news papers, watching videos on youtube, and meeting native speakers of the target language are some of the many ways they can train their minds to start thinking in a foreign language.

Thanks, BBC My note when listening Learning a new language is a new year resolution of 1 in 5 Britains. Having a good command of a language is a good thing because it can bring us many benefits such as communicating with foreigners or understanding signs and notices when traveling. Much scientific research has proven that being bilingual can help to boost our brain power. However, learning a new language is hard it can take a person many years to be fluent in speaking it. The secret to reaching proficiency in a language is focusing on high-frequency vocabulary which often shows up in conversational language. For example, we need 800 high-frequency words to be fluent in English.

Hey ! thank you for these videos, they help me a lot with improving my english. I´ve been studying english for 3 years and I realized the best way of learning english is , have a basic knowledge of english, and talking with native speakers because it is not the same as in the books in english, so , you need to get used to listen to the native speakers or watching series or even this type of videos !

Actually, the first thing I would consider before learning a new language is that I need to think whether it is necessary to me future. Most of the time, many people learn a new language because they want to live, study and work over there. Over the past few years, many of my friends had a craving with learning Japanese because they love the culture, tradition, want to live there in the future. However, they can't speak exceedingly well because of their mother language. The way I see things, if you want to learn a new language, you must let yourself get engaged in it, making it as your "weapon".
