I've been using the Black Mountain Volume pedal with my FM9. I've played with the various use cases you've demonstrated but ended up controlling my output block so that on zero it was on unity and on ten there's about a 5 dB increase. When gigging, I've sometimes found that my guitar sound was getting a little lost with wet effects and this helps compensate. Normally, you'd just increase the level when using those wet effects but I found that other situations that I ended up being too loud. The volume pedal gives me better fine grain control over my level when the situation calls for it.

I love this idea. Innovation for things you would never think of. Not being a huge fan of volume/wah pedals I think I would love this. Looks like you have more control standing on 1 leg also rather than trying to balance and shift weight forwards and backwards. 😊

You do. Also, it doesn’t accidentally slip very easily like a traditional rocker.

Wow! You must have been reading my mind. Thanks for the hack for using it as an expression pedal. Wow! Thanks! Thanks Emil! Wonderful wonderful!

I've been looking around for an always set, end of chain volume device to tame my amp at home. I think this might do the trick. And good on you for the closed toe shoes for this demo.

I own one of these. I don’t really get the drawbacks that are commonly brought up. As far as comfort and ease of use, it is a quick adjustment from the conventional wah style rocker. It’s as easy to use as the rocker style, and is likely just as durable. Wah style rockers fail at times too. Nothing is forever. It has the added bonus of knowing where you are on the pedal due to the numbers on the roller. If you have one in your hands, it feels incredibly durable. The components that move are well secured and the rest of the pedal is rock solid. The only two gripes I have are it would be nice to have an active or buffered version available and that I do not like the choice to place a mat style pad on the bottom of the pedal. I guess it could also be slightly cheaper, the entry cost is borderline too high. This is not really a new concept, I believe these style rollers have been made in the past, and there are expression pedal rollers available as well. To each their own. We all are entitled to our own preferences.

I am all for innovation and definitely applaud good engineering, and this is a fine example of both. It just seems to me that the motion you have to make is a bit awkward doing swells etc. Maybe you get used to that-- but I'm not sure that's reason enough to move from a traditional pedal. However, as an expression pedal or the like, the ability to use it as a precise parameter set would be handy indeed-- way better than cocking a regular pedal at a weird angle.

It's definitely one of those "makes sense when you use it" scenarios, but as always gear is never one size fits all

Great presentation and review! We can't say that they don't try new things... but when I'll see it on professional pedalboards of well known guitarists for at least one year straight THEN I'll consider it.

Sweet, been kinda interested in these since I saw Phil McKnight's vid, but they were out of stock. Leon putting out a video is one hell of an in-stock notice, lol. That wet-dry stereo setup sounded amazing and is definitely something I'd like to try at some point in the future. Nearly $200 USD feels a bit pricey when I already have a Mini Morley from over 10 years ago, but looking at prices of other volume pedals now, there's a lot of volume pedals over $100 and even near or over the $180 USD price of the Black Mountain. Guess I'm just not used to the prices of guitar gear anymore!
@LeonToddАй бұрын
I think I bought my old Ernie Ball volume pedal for $100AUD. The string broke and I sold it so I've missed having a dedicated vol pedal
@Run-RiotАй бұрын
@ Wow, I literally did not know about the string in an Ernie Ball volume pedal until now. Never looked closely at an EB vol pedal before, so didn’t know it was basically just a string tied to a potentiometer. Kinda hilarious, actually
@Steven-u5wАй бұрын
I'm sure you could have this pedal in series with a traditional volume pedal and then you have the best of both worlds

The good thing about trad pedals is they keep you upright...I can just see that thing launching many players straight off of the stage and into the front row😂😂😂

😂😂😂😂👏👏👏👏
@colemcbride733Ай бұрын
@@Zach-Rosicka People keep thinking it's slippery but Jack White is using it onstage every night without any problems! The pedal is super tough and you can put hundreds of pounds of pressure on it, same as a traditional rocker design. After a little bit of practice, it's easy to get used to and you don't have to do any balancing acts. It's actually pretty easy to use! : )

Didn’t know you could use the tuner out to another amp thanks for that knowledge 🤟🏻I would like to see how cable that up in your wet/dry was it just your AxeFX or an actual amp and the Axe and how would you cable up a W/D/W with this thing sorry I ask for to much just a nerd for how things are routed.🤯

This seems a good pedal to check out the volume pedal 💯 I don't think it would take much getting use to this kind of pedal. I wonder if they also do expression pedal as well? Thanks again for your videos. Whatever what you put into them very educational

This toy will not replace a classic pedal. A professional musician understands this. I won't even mention repairs.
@x3a3x3Ай бұрын
I can actually see some uses for that specially for mod / reverb expression if someone has a large pedalboard and wants to save some space for traditional expression pedals for volume and wah
@RobertSaxyАй бұрын
You did mention repairs and I can see this having less need for repairs due to the internals not being as exposed like with the classic volume pedal. This seems to be build like a tank and seems like it’s just a different way to turn a potentiometer so u dime get your repair point. No one is saying it will replace anything but this seems legit
