Hey Dan! Could you please clarify what you said at 3:04? "Offcuts of Marlebill"? Lovely video btw! Very Articulate.

Your resin picks look just like mine. I've used fall down in my shop that I grab from the sawdust pile. I then grab some wax paper, tape the corner up to eliminate leaking lay the wood out so I'm sure to have to wood on top of the pick, dye my resin, add glo powder, pour, trace, cut on band saw, sand on belt sander down to 220, then finish down to 2000 grit...little mineral oil on the wood...you get rigidity for your grip and a little flexibility on the strings. Well done. do you do different thickness? I've been playing with a micrometer to make different thickness for different players.
@ZebranoWoodCraft2 жыл бұрын
Haha cheers man, sounds like you’re much more technical than me! I don’t make these regularly enough to play around tbh.

nice job ! you could add a curved line in the middle so the thumbs sticks to the pick. Love your work
@ZebranoWoodCraft5 жыл бұрын
Charles Vonthron yeah that would be a nice touch :). A dremel or a piece of sandpaper wrapped around a dowel would do the job nicely.

Dan, what was the resin you used? No mention of pressure pot or vacuum chamber so I assume poured and set on it's own? I watch most if not all of your videos I am not aware of you using the resin in anything else, am I right. I thought it would lend itself to solid wood ring (dozens of you tubers doing the same) what do you think? Ideally the wood used would be stabilised for strength and durability.
@ZebranoWoodCraft4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate I used GlassCast resin which sets on its own. I’m not really a massive fan of using resin to be fair but you could make some unique rings with stabilised wood and resin!

You probably would have wanted to put the epoxy into a vacuum chamber after pouring it, but before it dried. You would be surprised how much air is in epoxy resin.
@declancampbell12775 жыл бұрын
unrelated to this video, and i apologise if im being too forward, What tool is it you use to form the curve on your rings? youve been incredibly helpful before, and i want to make my beautiful girl an engagement ring. most of my experience is industrial so making fine curves in a piece is almost never done, i would appreciate your advice
@ZebranoWoodCraft5 жыл бұрын
Declan Campbell no problem man. Tbh I just hand sand my tapers on wood, silver and gold rings. For Damascus steel or titanium I use carbide cutting tools on the metal lathe/sanding.

Honestly wooden guitar picks is not something guitarists value in general. Seems like more of a crafters thing than a musicians choice. Materials matter, and wood is just not strong enough and it changes shape when humidity and heat changes (warm sweaty hands). The qualities of the epoxy is also unknown. A guitar string will scrape bits off all the time, so there would be epoxy debris fall off left and right. Wood fibers are definitely not strong enough for repeatedly using to play guitar. Playing with any pick, the point will quickly shape up according to your picking style. With wood, I imagine it comes apart within 3 months. So keep it was a fun gimmick, this is not for musicians to use on their instruments. Maybe as a necklace or something else
@ZebranoWoodCraft3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree - probably not gonna last long but make nice necklaces or gifts. Maybe suited to playing gently on an acoustic rather than metal shredding.
