Ah the old "Well everyone is doing it" excuse. At least admit you are pronouncing it incorrectly. Buena Vista is a spanish phrase that well predates the city's founding and just because the founder mispronounced it because she was some German lady doesn't make that the correct pronunciation. "The Spanish had nothing to do with it" other than invent the language you are taking from. Now be clear - say it how ever the hell you want. But just because the founder got it wrong, and your whole town continues to get it wrong, doesn't make it right. But logic rarely matter in this kind of debate. 'Murica.

They copied the word, the spelling, the meaning, but got the pronunciation wrong. Then not only that, they get offended when someone else comes along and pronounces it correctly. If they want it pronounced different change the spelling.

Not only does she not know the history of her town, the Spanish were the first Europeans to go there in the 1700's, It was named then. I bet she doesn't now that it means "Good View" the supposedly german woman who named it probably pronounced it properly. This is just some ignorant, bigotted BS. Salida is also misprounced, it is Supposed to be Saleeda not Salaida.

I lived there when I was 8 years old till I was 10 years old and it's ALWAYS been called BYOONA VISTA..... So, unless you lived there or named the town, get a grip..... read this dear Juliana Padilla: Jan 24, 2017 - That woman's name was Alsina Dearheimer. She suggested Buena Vista, and insisted on the "Byoo." That decision was based on German pronunciation, and to make a play on the English pronunciation of "beautiful."

But any outsider says Bwaynuh. How do you say Buenos Diaz? Buenos Aires? Back in the days, foreigners from Europe seen the words and meanings but pronounced them to there language dialect. I don't pronounce that way and never will. There seems to be a lot of confusion on this with locals who just won't let go.
