I never think like "oh these people are all going to die" but I do frequently boggle at the fact that all these people are all going seperate places. Like even people on the same flight, some will drive away, others will get on other flights or on trains and we all have been motivated to travel but like what motivates us is so unique... it reminds me that every other person has their own life and all of their friends have their own lives and so on and so on... so much time has been lived through.

When I travel I think about eating a lot. When I look around at people most of them will eat at some stage in the journey and pretty much everyone at least has a drink. It makes me realise that, even though their lives are complex and crazy and everything, we're basically still just animals with a basic need for nutrition and energy. Despite how interesting and different we are as a species, despite how we think of ourselves as so seperate from nature, we're just doing the same job of turning calories into life, you know? Sorry if that's uninteresting or makes no sense but it means something to me.

I don't really have an intention of participating in these assignments, but I'm very involved in watching them and tracking the art assignment tags on Tumblr. The art projects, even the ones which aren't *necessarily* "art" while they're being performed, certainly *become* art in the process of the creative expression that brings them to the internet where I can see it.

What Sarah said about art reminds me of how I feel about classical music (and opera). So many people dismiss centuries of music out of hand, and it always makes me sad and a little angry. If you don't like it, that's fine, but please don't diss it. There are so many different types of works, encompassing all different moods, narratives, and styles, that I'm sure everyone could find something that they'd like. Just like Sarah said, children love classical music if they're exposed to it. They have no preconceived notions. A teacher I used to work with played the opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" for her fourth-grade students every year. They loved it! My middle school and high school students remembered it fondly. They loved it because they didn't automatically think that opera was uncool, and also because the teacher took time to really get into the story.

I subscribed to the Art Assignment simply because it was another John Green project; I was not prepared for how much I would love this concept or the assignments themselves. I'm so glad there are no deadlines! I've been brainstorming gif ideas and I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to complete mine in time.

I think art is such a cool idea and I love learning more about it, I'm legally blind and I really don't know much about art. I always thought of it as something that I can't enjoy but you're teaching me about things like, meet in the middle that anyone can do. I didn't know that was art. I love watching these videos; I'm learning so much. Thank you!

On the question related to how to teach children about art, I grew up singing (on my own, later in lessons) but my mom was also the head of a charity that helped support local artists & galleries so I went to art & visually-oriented history & science museums constantly when I was a child. While I'm not talented in relation to visual art, I constantly appreciate my mother's efforts to teach me how to approach visual beauty & expression in a different way, & it actually helped me figure out how to audibly express myself in a different manner from other people.

In which John Green popped up on every international watchlist. BUT HE'S SO RIGHT. Not just at airports, but just walking around crowded places. It's morbid, sure. But it's also fascinating. These people will all be dead in 60-100 years. And there will still be other people, and life will continue. Technology will still advance, people will still fall in love, and Doctor Who will be on season 73. It's mind boggling and yet, at the same time, so simple and, in its own way, reassuring.

Re: kids and art. My mum had a whole bunch of cheap hard back books dedicated to a single artist, like El Greco, Constable and Turner. By the nature of them being art books they were quite tall as books go and had to go on the larger bottom shelf of the book case. So for me as a toddler, I would often pull these out to look at as an alternative to the regular kid's picture book.

I was totally expecting John to say "best wishes" at the end and then I remembered this is the wrong channel for that. Also "are you a terrorist?" - actual lol. Hoping my schedule frees up so I have the time to do some of these soon! I'm currently taking my first ever art history class- it is on contemporary art, so it's been so cool to watch these episodes and see what's being done in contemporary art today, and see how it echoes some of the concepts and methods I learn about in class.

This reminds me of iversity's design 101 course, the lectures and the weekly assignments - even the graphics. BUT the assignments have no deadlines and the topics or concepts come from different artists - this is so much more appealing. Choice! This is awesome.

Okay, what is an art park? I have a five-year-old who is amazingly ahead of the curve when it comes to creating traditional artwork (drawing, painting, etc.). I have been trying to find ways to nurture and grow her talent, and an art park sounds up her alley, but I don't even really know what it is or how to find one.

I use the term "art park" to describe places outside that have art, and there are many different kinds. Sculpture parks are one kind, but to me those can be a little dry. In Indianapolis, we have 100 Acres: www.imamuseum.org/visit/100acres, as well as things like the Cultural Trail: indyculturaltrail.org/ (not an art park but a great way to see art in public space). Where do you live?

The Art Assignment A tip: Never ask, "Where do you live?" in a youtube comment. Try "Look for art parks in your area!" or some other Walmart-Greeter-type-thing. Just trust me on this one.

The Art Assignment Thank you; I know exactly what you're describing. I'm in CT, and while I don't know of any in the immediate area without hopping a train to NYC or Boston (which isn't a bad idea), your description helped me realize what I'm looking for. I think that's a fantastic idea, for kids or adults. My daughter gets tons of art exposure thanks to my mom, who happens to be an art teacher, but I always wonder what I could do more to help her grow creatively.
