How Does a Dentist Fill a Cavity?

i am getting 12 fillings over the course of 4 weeks !!!! , I am going to turn my brushing around because my teeth are still able to be saved I just have to consistently brush !!!! :) Also , How do they numb your mouth. Is it a shot in the gums or a pill or rubbing gel ?
