This has become a staple of my Thursdays my dude! Out of curiosity, any reason you've got the first 7 measures as 4/4 instead of 7/8 or 7/4 too? I'd have thought that would make it harder to work with in the DAW but I don't have a ton of experience with recording. And I guess the drums kind of have the 4/4 feel...

Fuck around a lot. To do this stuff I usually just stumble upon a sequence of notes that speak to me, do the same with some rhythms then start trying to connect stuff or use my knowledge to create something/inform me on what could be cool. Then it's just keep fucking around. At some point you'll have a part you're happy with or mostly so you should just track it and get it in the DAW so you can move forward. After enough rinse/repeats and listening to what you've made it will start to show you itself what it needs. Just listen to it when you get a decent way into the song and whatever your guts feels like it wants is what it needs or sometimes you can just chuck stuff together and it'll unexpectedly be insane but that's more rare. Saw someone call it the right brain left brain technique for writing. Use right brain to find something cool then left brain to fill in the rest with what you want to hear. Then just bounce back and forth. It helps to try and relax and not worry about song structure and stuff that you'll get into down the line, just focus on getting stuff written(you can always change it later) and get it in the DAW. When I started taking that approach seriously I've quadrupled the amount of good material I can make in a given week. Just keep at it
