Good Afternoon MSH! Thank you for spending time with my son and I at your shop this past summer. I hope that you and your used golf ball sponsor can collaborate on a (long 😃) series of videos comparing various grades and/or manufacturers previously enjoyed golf balls. Your insights re: comparative equipment performance are always very good. What exactly is the performance drop of (if any) among the various grades of used balls? Getting data from an honest reviewer like yourself would be appreciated by all!! Hopefully you can film indoor tests this winter and obtain outdoor numbers this Spring. That’s a LOT of videos but you’re the man for the job!! All the BEST!!!

If you want to get better … go to the range and hit 100 balls a day (but that really doesn’t work if that’s all you do) OR listen to MSH on this channel and LEARN how to play golf. He has provided hundreds of tips on how to PLAY. He has helped to make this game more enjoyable - 😊

Enjoyed the video as always. Good timing with this one. We’ve played some chilly rounds lately and the effect of the cold has been a topic. I wonder if there is a difference of the weather effect on a higher vs lower compression ball. I’ve been using some lower compression balls in cold weather and thought I’ve noticed they seem to perform a little better. Thanks as always for the vid!

There are YT ball-review videos that go into this, for both warm and cold weather. DuoSofts are the only balls I've seen that have been mentioned for both conditions. Maybe search for "best cold weather golf balls" etc...

I play a higher compression ball in the summer. In tge winter, lower compression. Something that still stops

I've seen INDOOR distance testing on warm and cold balls but what they never test is a cold club face... Yesterday I had to hit a 6 iron when out 145-155 yards. That's normally 165-170 yard club for me. Ambient temps were around 45°F.

Love winter golf, no crowds, no slow play. For me, a true short hitter it’s one club length each 20* F. The problem lies in the lack of short tee boxes, any colder than 40* I’m playing the forward most tees. If it’s colder than 30* 4800 yards is still too long. Golf courses need more tee options.

Thanks MSH. Was wondering what type of grass is used on your greens? I am in the south and many courses cover their greens during cold weather (not sure at that temperature). "Hit'em straight "

Most courses in my area have Bentgrass. Bermuda grass doesn't so well in cold temperatures. More Southern courses tend to use Bermuda.

@mistahshorthitter Yes, we are sort of at the limit for Bentgrass. One course in my area still has Bentgrass but it's a struggle for them. The course I play the most had Bentgrass until a few years ago but just gave up and switched to Bermuda. Thanks for the information.

I was expecting to see more of a drop-off than that! Layers definitely make a difference for me when I get above 3 as well as hitting into wind. I notice mostly with driver. Colder denser air should slow the ball flight I've heard. Do you use the same ball in colder weather? I normally play an 85 compression ball and in the cold weather I rotate a ball every hole and try to keep one warmed up in my pocket. I've tried softer compression balls in cold weather but don't seem to notice any gain. May just be me. Great video and info!
