So my new 2 song playlist that I have playing on my way to tms is rotoscope and this. This... cover... original... coriginover? When he does the "softer" (lol) "do you really think I'm afraid of you" actually sort of helped made lows make sense to me. Because I feel (not that anyone but me will ever hear it) like I can actually (without discomfort) replicate that, which then makes going into it a bit harder, easier. Fortunately for me, no one I know personally, likes the music I like, so no one ever drives with me. Win/win

A very low tone at the end is when you run out of air. I don't know how it happens inside, but when you give a lot of air and don't have enough air until the end, it's like the cords (or something) relax from the tension and... I am endlessly fascinated by how all the different vocal dynamics achieve what they do but have so much overlap. When performing sygyt very slight movements of the tongue change the tone and pitch and when I say slight I mean barely any movement. To get a deeper tone you slide the tongue towards the back of the mouth so it was really interesting to see you demonstrate that. I am curious what you think about or if you have any familiarity with metal vocal techniques where you draw air in, rather than breathing air out?

Big biiiig fan of AA and Alex. I see what you are saying but I think they are born from 2 different places. Johan is serious "stomach" in his low tones mostly from his natural speaking voice. Vs Alex where it seems more "chest" but inhumanely low and powerful. I dont think Johan messes with as many shapes in his mouth as Alex and I feel that's due to longevity of use.
@timothyscott19512 жыл бұрын
Actually what you are seeing is the use of the diaphragm , it's in-between the stomach and the chest
@tevildo93832 жыл бұрын
@@Phil.Anthropy As a vocalist myself (mostly learned from this channel), I'm not sure what you mean about the difference between "stomach" and "chest". And where are you getting this information from? Johan definitely plays with less mouth shapes than Alex, but that's honestly just a stylistic difference between death metal and deathcore.
@Phil.Anthropy2 жыл бұрын
@@tevildo9383 it's like Prince and diaphragm. The dude was toned and abs galore running around on stage but the moment he would sing he would have a near beer gut look at points. Johan feels to me to be more down there. A low bellowing roar but contained. Alex is more explosive and dynamic in just presence that when he goes to yell or growl it seems or feels more in the chest. The "exertion of energy and pressure" portion of this video and the veins coming out of Alex you dont see much of live from Johan. Idk if either of these help my already rambled attempt. But let me know if not and I'll take another crack at it. Keep in mind I'm not saying what either is doing, just from body language and whatnot it feels this way. Be well

One way I found to achieve a very similar low tone is to actually tense the muscles right beneath the chin. That causes the soft tissues under the tongue to go down almost an inch of their normal position. By covering that space with the tongue (tongue is not moving) it seems to create a '' second '' resonance chamber where the first sound is filtered through it which seems to add a lower tone to the overall sound.
