People ask me "What's your favorite Tool song?" and I in turn ask "What day is it?" They say "Tuesday" and I say "The Grudge" but it's all bravado built upon a bed of lies. My favorite Tool song is the last one I heard because it's still bouncing around in my soul. Tool stands alone.

This is THE gem of Fear Inoculum. Simply incredible. And yes, Maynard is unparalleled as a lyricist.

TOOL is so effing good. There’s no other way to say it. Every instrument (and the man who plays it) is next level, and Maynard’s lyrics are from another dimension. I agree with you. It’s not fair that all 4 of these musical geniuses are in one band. But I’m glad they are, because I love every masterpiece they create, and there are many.

Fear Inoculum, invincible, Descending, and Tempest. 4 examples of god-tier composition on one album🥺 I still maintain that musicologists will one day study TθθL as its own sub-genre of progressive metal.

You have yet to go down the TOOL journey, go back 30 years ago and listen to how they have evolved, they are one of a kind, a rock orchestra, kinda like a new Pink Floyd, you have to read the lyrics and listen many times, otherwise you miss out

The video in the CD case (on a 7" screen), called Recusant Ad Infinitum, plays twice over, for a total of 13:37, the exact length of Descending. So you see it once with vocals and another time with only music.
