Damen is also Autistic, he struggles much differently from eli and struggles emotionally much more severely. Therefore i dont usually share as much about his needs as he is usually left more emotionally vulnerable due to the types of issues he deals with.

I am an OT and I always believed that parents are the best therapists and the most important one in a child’s life. . A therapy session is an hour at best and the other session is 23 hours . Great job mom.

Wow your kids are so cute and you are such a beautiful mom inside and out, thank you for explaining in a easiest way to understand. autistic or not, we love our kids to the moon! I have a 6 year old son on the spectrum, he is verbal but no eye contact, a little math genius, says he loves his mom to infinity 😊😀 So when he was young, I use to do lots of silly faces, sing songs a lot and that really made him give me eye contact, hope this helps someone, he still needs prompting to eye contact coz it’s hard for him, but once u get into their world, they look at u, talk to u and most importantly you have a happy joyful child. All moms out there, hang in there, we have good and hard days…it gets better…we are strong! autistic parenting makes us even better humans!

Our son is 21 months, and he still doesn't say any words. He also climbs everything in sight, all day. He sometimes walks around in circles, but he doesn't really flap his arms or hands. He does fixate on the individual parts of his toys, but sometimes he puts the little puzzle pieces where they go, etc. I've never seen him play with a car-type toy in a way that mimics a car driving. I don't think he even understands the concept of driving or connects it with his toys. He will sometimes respond to his name, but only like 50% of the time. Sometimes we'll say his name over and over again, with him staying oblivious to it. I've tried pointing at things to see if he looks at what I'm pointing to, but again, he only looks a fraction of the time. He does look us in the eye at times. He's also quite affectionate at times. But in general, I get the sense that he's fairly oblivious to us, in the way that Eli is. Our son hums, makes clicking sounds and says "Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma" over and over again, but I don't see any evidence that he's really understanding speech. My wife, on the other hand, is in denial of any possibility that he could be autistic. When he says "ma-ma-ma" she credits him with calling her mama. But I don't see any indication that he connects that sound with his actual mother. I think it's just a sound that he makes. He occasionally repeats other small words over and over again, like "Ga-ga-ga-ga" or "Da-da-da-da," but again, I don't see any evidence that he connects those sounds with the concept of dad or grandma or anything else. He seems to just be babbling. My wife, on the other hand, usually pretends that he's trying to say "dada" or "grandma." The last time I brought up the possibility of his being autistic, she got extremely angry, and we had a bit of an argument. I honestly don't know what to do, because I want to get our son in front of a specialist, but can't get my wife to allow it. Even if the boy isn't autistic, I feel like it's smart to check. But she just insists that I'm seeing what I want to see and blames me for not giving him enough credit. But even if she's right, wouldn't it still be smart to at least get him checked out?

This just popped up on my recommendations. I have a 26 month old. I just wanted to say its great that you are posting these. My son had a speech delay i was researching autism a couple months ago for early signs and although i am not concerned about my son habing autism anymore but when i was researching there was not enough real life people out there sharing their experiences. I think people are scared to expose what their children are going through, but you are spreading awareness and showing its okay if your children are diagnosed .You are a strong woman and a great mom!! Wow, Thank you so much for your kind words and support! It really means a lot to know that this channel really is starting to help other families. I can definitely understand why families would not want to show their children’s struggles, in fact I aim not to as well. I don’t consider his delays as struggles to be overcome necessarily, but just his current abilities and limitations, which changes the way he goes about his daily life, but these things don’t take away from his happiness at all. I am very careful not to show the parts or share the parts that are particularly vulnerable areas, such as meltdowns, toilet training struggles, and emotionally distressing moments, etc. although those are reality, those are things I feel can be portrayed just as well through a conversation of the topic as a whole rather than focusing in on my sons specific struggle in those areas. All of the things we discuss and show here are typically the overall Delays, therapies, play, stims, his personality, and fun times. I really want to help families understand that there is much more to it than struggles, and that even if it looks different, there is also love and play and fun and personality just as any other child, and there is plenty of fun to be had! .

Your son is adorable! I love that you just let him play in the mud and get dirty and have fun. Some of his behaviors remind me a LOT of my nephew. He doesn't have an official diagnosis yet, but he's working with a speech pathologist, as he's 2 1/2 and hasn't picked up on words yet. When he gets really excited, he pumps his arms and grinds his teeth and then goes over to his favorite silky pillow and squishes it really hard, and then pats it and gives it a kiss. 😂 It's been really interesting to learn different ways to communicate with him and engage him as much as possible. Honestly, as a mum of a 2 year old that was really interesting to see. Thank you for sharing that with us. My son is not autistic (at least I don't think so), but it's still interesting to see how different children are. There is a little boy, the same age as mine, living in the same appartment building as we are. I think he might be autistic. Watching your son was like watching him. But I'm no doctor and definitley don't want to diagnose him. It's just an observation.

I’m glad you found it interesting! That’s why I made that actually, because I had never seen another child like mine until I saw a child a the therapy clinic that was diagnosed, and that’s when it clicked that he really likely was autistic (we already were waiting for his eval, but I was still thinking that it was just a delay and unique traits)-I very much wanted to put this out there so that another parent like me at that weird place before knowing can also see another child like theirs, especially since modern parenting can be so competitive, and it can feel like you’re doing something wrong when one of your children just aren’t meeting the milestones, despite doing things the same. He is going on 6 now, and is still very similar, but he will mimic a word here and there or phrase like, “happy birthday” when he sees us bringing groceries in (bagged items) or handing items to each other or eating pastries, and he has much more interaction now, as far as pulling us where he needs and such things. There definitely are other things that can cause a presentation similar to autism, however Autism seems to be the most common cause of such a presentation regarding disabilities, at least most commonly diagnosed.

Thank u for your story. my son was diagnosed a month ago (18 months) and already has PT, OT and speech coming to our house. He is growing and gaining skills everyday. He is so social and looks at us right in our eyes now which makes me happy cry. He stims by flapping when he's exciting, waving objects near his eyes and he clenches his jaw. He also wants to smell everything lol!

I went to an Autism Meet up last year where we brought our kids for play dates, and I met this little boy who was EXACTLY like Eli, like down to the stims and demeanor and everything, lol, so I definitely know the feeling!

18 months is when the M CHAT should first be Done for a pre evaluation for ALL children, and if the MCHAT shows red flags, then they should be referred for Autism evaluation, as well as therapies because if you fail the MCHAT then delays are already present, and even in the absence of Autism, therapy can help them catch up and give them need3d support. also, autism evals often have LONG wait lists, and getting a referral at 18 months and placed on a waitlist will often result in testing around 3 years old anyway due to the long wait. If there are concerns, waiting until 3 means any time for early intervention, the biggest game changer, is now gone, and is why they are beginning earlier testing, as research shows earlier diagnosis greatly increases the success rates of children, and the likelihood of children moving levels. The worst thing that could happen if you get your child seen for concerns early if they aren’t actually autistic, is that they get them extra help and realize that the child is not autistic, and out those fears to rest for the parent. There is no “too early”, as there aren’t negative consequences for letting a professional evaluate a child.

It's seeming to be that the neurodivergent community is what's normal, I feel Neurotypical people are the ones that aren't right, hidden meanings behind the sentences they may speak instead of direct 'blunt' communication, forced eye contact, if you have non verbal days they near force you to speak, the ability to not have a sensory overload when theres too much going on at once I think it's abnormal of people to withstand endless amounts of visual, auditory and physical overstimulation and not have a slight if not full meltdown after a bit 😅 I mean I'm autistic and I feel like even though I'm pretty alien like or considered 'ecentric' 'never met anyone like me' I can describe things very accurately and so descriptively that people literally can picture exactly what I'm saying, to the point they laugh to themselves like "what the heck I love your brain like you just took me there so vividly" lol there are things that you probably would consider not normal but in my case, I'm surrounded by neurodivergent people, family, friends.. just everywhere and I look around and think well I think the normal people are outnumbered now so that would technically make us neurodivergent folk the normal ones now lol Sorry about the life story and rambling, I'm AuDHD (autistic/ADHD) that's 2 of 10 of my diagnoses, that's another con, the comorbidities

Mona words have more power than you think. When people ask if he's autistic just say I doubt it. If you truly feel he is believe it or not he can be delivered. Look up Richard Lorenzo ( Roc church) or Pastor Richard Lorenzo)

Well whether it is autism or not, the fact that they are already getting support they need is great! If they do get diagnosed with it, then just remember that it is identifying a neurology that is already present, to help equip you and the medical and educational system with the knowledge to meet their needs! I know that there is more to it than that, but just take things one day at a time.❤️

I don’t think the video said they didn’t. The main difference is that these are things that were done for hours and hours, something that is not considered typical play especially when combined with other things. This video did not say anything about any of these being signs of Autism-this video is literally just an Autistic child playing.

Also, even actual signs of Autism as well as other disabilities could also be related to “well other kids do that”. Of course they do. It is not like these are not humans we are talking about. The thing that makes the behavior or action atypical is often the way it is done, duration, intensity, etc.

he is nearing 4 years old now (he was 2.5 ish I believe in this video) and his needs have changed a lot, some things have improved in amazing ways, some things have gotten more difficult, just like with all kids, only in our case the “things” that get better and more difficult are much different. While he is still non verbal and is showing severe receptive delay (some non verbal kids can understand language well but struggle to express the language themselves, Yi struggle more with understanding language, which clearly will affect his ability to express language) however in the past 6 months, he has exploded with this new awareness, he is aware of and interested in his surroundings, in me depending on his mood and whether there are people around overwhelming him, he wants to communicate, he grabs my finger and drags me behind him, things that he was so far from 6 months ago. He is starting to try to play in his own way with his brother, running in circles with each other. He can now jump and has begun imitating and copying things, like throwing a basketball, trying to use a shovel to dig, and wiping his face with a napkin. And while his sensory issues have increased, and his Self injurious behaviors and elopement, these things are to be expected with development in his situation. it is overwhelming to go from being withdrawn into yourself to engaging in such a busy world and we are just working through things one day at a time. I do want to express that Yi has been in therapy since 8 months old, and it took up until this year for there to be some really big gains. Our biggest goal now is to help him to use his AAC, but I am more than great full for the relationship we are building now that he is interacting with me on a different level and it really makes the past 3 years of OT, PT and Speech and researching worth it.

Sorry for such an in depth response lol. I just know that at the point I made that video last year, while of course I was happy with him and who he was and is, it was becoming really.. sad I guess, and worrisome, to think that these years of therapies had passed with such little gains in areas he needs be able to survive, like physical reflexes, awareness, joint attention, fine motor skills, etc. And after over 2 years with little developmental growth, I began to wonder how much there would be. And then all of his interacting and reaching out just sprung out of no where after years. So if this is a path your family ends up going down, just know the scariest part is the beginning, so much is unknown. Don’t let the worry overtake you too much❤️

@@louderthanwordsInclusivity My son just turned 14yrs old and the spinning, crashing into the couch, toe walking, I remember thinking will he ever be able to walk without looking like he's a helicopter thats about to crash? I can confirm, that yes he most definitely can and does. His interest are very restricted but the few that he does have, he puts all the sensory seeking energy into. His older sister didn't spin but hand flapped and although was considered verbal, she experiences periods of mutism (she shuts down/burns out). When verbal her speech was (still can be) disjointed. At 16, if she starts to go off topic, I can (anyone for that matter) remind her to stay focused. As far as shutting down/burnout, puberty is very tough in autistic girls and we are starting to come down that hill. It's been a tough few years but , she was finally able to verbalize just enough for me to begin to understand what was going on, what would trigger it and although everyday we are both still learning, I can finally say that the empty, hard to describe feeling that something was "missing" isn't constantly in my head. Learning when to push and when not to has brought her and my son closer than I ever thought possible. She may not let me hug her and give her kisses like her yougeat sister or brother (I think the sensory seeking helped with hugs ect) but when she text me a few months ago and said "Momma, I don't think Ive ever said this but I appreciate you very much" I starting crying, Only a parent to an Autistic child can understand how emotional and powerful hearing that can/could be. It was HUGE for her (being able to put something like that into words and then share it with me ) it was the first thing she ever said to me without promting. (I don't tell my kids to say "I love you" not do I force eye contact) Long story short my 2 oldest are Autistic/ Sensory and my youngest NT (different dad) I worry about all 3 the same, having an NT child gaurentees us nothing and everyone shows love in different ways but they all feel the same. I've learned more from my kids than I will ever be able to reach them.

My son will turn 2 next month. He is not talking at all. Random baba, mama, dada that's it. He responds to his name 8 out of 10 times, waves his hand, know 1 or 2 body parts, do ringa ringa roses and some other stuff. But what I noticed is, he does exact same thing in the video from 4.22 to 4.55. I am really concerned about him. I have attended 1st session of speech therapy for parents but he is not at all interested in learning because whenever he wants something, he holds our hand n take us to the thing he wants or points sometimes. Sorry for the long post.

He goes to day care, plays there but no improvement in terms of speech. We have taken appointment next month for speech therapy session. Will go to pediatrician also for his evaluation next month. He ll be 2 years old.

he has been in Physical therapy since 8 months old, Speech since 14 months old and OT since March 2020, and while we also were doing the Special Education Preschool Program with our district for 3 year olds, we did pull him out due to several issues we were having in our situation. We work with AAC and homeschool and interact as much as we can. I hope all goes well and you guys find the answers y’all are looking for❤️

Honestly my son has some big sleep issues, and we are still struggling. We use melatonin but it doesn’t help keep him from waking up and he may eventually need medicine it it stays at this severity so I do not have tips lol we haven’t found a solution ourselves❤️ Sorry I can’t be of more help!

He is turning 6, he is still mostly non verbal but is beginning to get some echolalia and words for labeling, just not for communicative purposes, he also can use a yes no touch chart sometimes for communication, he also cannot follow simple one step directions quite yet, he still is globally delayed and does not interact with other children outside of his brother, and it is not in a playful or typical way But, he also has so much more awareness and interaction with his family, he has more of an interest in being with us, and he is experiencing more and more things. He is still disabled and always will be, but he is also coming along and growing and progressing and becoming a sweet young man lol. We also have found out since this video that he has 5 genetic variants, several of which are associated with autism, one causes CDLS, the NIPBL gene, which commonly causes autism as well as other symptoms he has (slow growth, IDD, chronic vomiting and severe feeding issues, raynauds, etc).

Just came across your video and I know it’s old but I really need some help my son just turned 2 in feb he doesn’t talk at all and he does have autism I am a young mom of soon to be 5. It’s so hard to find stuff about autism on line or even moms who have sons with autism I am literally at lost I have so many question and I feel so alone sometimes. I didn’t say any of this WAS Autism, my son has severe Autism and this was how he played at 2, which developmentally is delayed and repetitive, the climbing maybe not so much I just thought it was cute lol. He is 4 now there is a more recent video because he has changed a lot but he is still non verbal and the overall developmental age equivalent of a 19 month old-some of these things just in the few seconds may be normal, but for example he will sit in one spot staring at wheels spin for 3 hours straight when this was filmed and if you interrupt it he would self harm. So some of these things that may be normal when not done so excessively or repetitively become different when you take into account this is ALL he does-for example we removed all the furniture out of the room last year because he climbed so much so often, would leap off things without safety awareness, had a lack of reflexes so did not protect himself with his hands, and he squeezed behind furniture from proprioceptive obsessively and got stuck on a regular basis-in this scenario it goes beyond what is typical and this was the best I could convey that in a 7 minute video

We have been working with modified sign for over 2 years as well as PECS, and we also model a speech device in and out of therapy. Unfortunately he has not been very responsive to AAC so far but I know he will pick it up as he has developed amazing physical communication this past month or two

He has 5 genetic variants, including NIPBL (Cornelia De Lange) which is being studied by SPARK for Autism. He is not up to date on his vaccines, a decision we made in conjunction with his ped due to his multiple genetic variants.

@@louderthanwordsInclusivity that is not what I meant. I don't mean how many he gotvor is getting for a possible treatment. I meant how many of the standard issued 💉before the diagnostic of autism. Example the vitamin k shot immediately after birth that hospitals tend to push and give as routine then when you go to the doctor he 1month or 2 later they push another then another than another etc. My son was born 2 years ago and he still can't talk, he did receive vitamin k shot only. I didn't know that the vitamin k shot is not a vitamin, it is actually a synthetic drug meant to coagulate the blood for excessive bleeds(original intent). This not a normal shot and there is very little info on ingredients and side effects of this.

This shot actually goes to the brain passing through the brain barrier that regulates the bood circulation to the brain (it is not suppose to go past the brain barrier). Therefore synthetic matarial of the shot reaches the brain. Have you spoken with a specialist doctor about the possible side effects of this shot. Normal doctors won't say or admit that this or any other shot is a possible cause of anything.
