I trust Pete from age 30-34 than Walker 34-37 …. Pete figured out some things during the playoffs. He barely went opposite field trying to get that contract and in the playoffs alone he hit 2 oppo’s & another off the floor to center which he didn’t do all season. Hes due for a 40 homerun season if he stays healthy

U hav to ask urself this though, why hasn’t any team ben in contact with him at this point? That should be a huge red flag, if he was a hot ticket, many teams would hav ben talking to him during the winter meetings. That could mean they see a huge flaw in him that’s very concerning, could it be his chase rate, inconsistency, bad defense, the rumors of him being a cancer in the locker room? I wouldn’t be in a hurry to sign him unless the price is really reasonable, otherwise wait for Vladdy to hit the market nxt off-season. he hits for much better average n is better defensively n he gives u similar stats

Part of Pete’s contract should be for services rendered. You had him cheap all these years and he OVER performed except for last season where he was under pressure to perform. Pay him now. You’re at $248 million now. Give Pete $27 mill for 5 years. Go get Burnes for $35 mill for 7 yrs. Trade Marte to the Reds and unload $20 million. Then sign Scott for $14 million for 4 years. You’ll be at $305 million with your protection for Soto, and ace in your rotation and 8th and 9th innings locked down with Scott and Diaz. If you want to keep Marte for DH where there won’t be wear and tear on his body, he’d still be the best DH you’ve had in a few years.

So far it’s looking like Boras and Alonso have overplayed their hand. Pete is not worth more than 150 mil. Add to that no team that’s interested is gonna bid against themselves. Those few teams are also fully aware that Cohen can outbid them if he so chooses. They also don’t like the idea of giving up a draft pick. I’d say the Mets are in a great spot, but they shouldn’t let this drag on forever.
