Alonso has never been a liability in the field. He makes all the plays he's expected to, and occasionally makes a great play. I'm more worried about his BA.

1st Basemen have become the Running Backs of MLB. They're viewed as very expendable. That said, I think the Mets will still give Alonso a nice contract. It was smart of them to let him test the market first though so they don't overpay too crazily.

NGL I’m a Pete fan and hard to change my mind on a 1-3 year deal not making sense. On pace for 500 bombs. Great locker room guy. Loves the city. Homegrown Met. Neve explored when everyone hating on his slump. And look how that “expendable running back” theory has worked out in 2024. Complete 180° after all that yapping. Expect the same from Pete in that lineup between Soto and Vientos.

He just needs to come back to the Mets. He got starry-eyed from Boras and that didn't help him. He passed up on a Mets extension he should have signed. Now the deal he gets will leave him sour (for no reason, but he's human). Sign him for 4/$100 with opt outs (team/player) after yrs 2 & 3.
@MrOccyc9 күн бұрын
I have nothing against Alonso. But this is how is see it. 34 HR & 88 RBI over 608 ABs. 88-34 leaves 54 RBI over 574 ABs. That’s assuming each HR had no one on board. So there are a lot of ABs that didn’t produce much. I know there are flaws in this but .240 isn’t exactly stellar.

Probably his agent is asking for too much money or too many years of contract. I think the best that Pete Alonso can get would be 6 years and 180 million or something similar, which is a very good contract considering that after 35 years most players start to decline a lot.

Constructive criticism: You need deeper and more accurate analysis; You didn't go into the recent 1B signing and trades by the teams that had made up the market for Alonso (ie: Houston, Arizona, Yankees, Cleveland); the Feinsand article is old, considering your video came out today; Baserunning ability is hardly a consideration (if so, a very minor one) for a middle of the order power bat; the Mets aren't out on Alonso... they're almost the sole market left for him.

All the teams that are expected to “need” a first baseman, like Alonso, are the Mets,yankees,mariners,astros, and D-Backs. The yankees got goldy, the astros got Christian Walker, and the D-Backs got Josh Naylor. So, it’s in between the Mariners and the Mets. The mariners, a team where hitters go to die, and a place where not much winning is done, is an option. Or, you can go back to a team that you’ve spent your entire career for, a team that is willing to spend money on players, and a team that is a World Series contender. It’s a pretty obvious choice if you ask me

You can’t say that nobody wants him. Teams don’t want to get involved in a bidding war that his agent “Scott Boras” wants. I’m sure teams like Alonso they just don’t want to deal with BORAS!

Fielding shouldn’t be a factor for a first basemen, they’re not supposed to be slick in the field.
@JorgeLaureano7 күн бұрын
When watching him play 1st base, Alonso did very well scooping bad throws from the infield. His major problem comes when throwing the ball.. He's terrible with that side arm garbage he continually attempted. Another issue with Alonso is that he clearly doesn't anticipate scenarios in his head before the ball is hit to him... When playing defense, guys need to consistently review the field and consider what they need to do if the ball comes in their direction. Alonso is always trying to figure it out after the ball has already been hit to him! SMH... Lastly, yes... he did hit 34 HRs but that was only one more than Lindor had but when Lindor was hitting his HRs, the impacted the game by taking the lead or tying the game. Alonso's impressive HRs always seemed to come when the team was already leading by 5-6 runs... whoop-de-doo... Not clutch at all during the entire season!! One HR against the Brewers doesn't justify erasing the fact that Alonso was lacking in relevance most of the season, striking out during crucial moments day after day. For anyone rooting for him all season it simply became frustrating! I hope he comes back but only at the right price because I rather take a better fielder with a higher OBP, than a guy who hit irrelevant HRs... LGM

Pete has been hitting A-Rod Home runs. What is that? Those are home runs that just pad stats. If we dissect every home run from him. You will see most will be ones that don't need to be hit cuz the team already won. Meaning the team is feasting on a hittable pitcher. Or home runs that bring a team over to win a close game or home runs that carry a team. None of that happened in 2024 regular season
@Eogyu0910 күн бұрын
A-rod had about 2,000 RBI'S. Hater fantasy his home runs didn't help his teams. Also he won 2009 for the Yankees.

it's not just his defense. His last 2 seasons his batting averages were .240 and .217 and his last 2 OPSes were .788 and .821. He strikes out over 150 times a year. He is a one tool player, and he wants 30 million dollars a year. He is not worth it.
