averaging 40 is the new 50, batting will never be easier than it was from about 2000-16, it's not that there's a lack of quality batters its that bowlers have figured out the 'wobble ball' along with analytics and bit more spice in the pitch its just a far harder era to bat in, look at world cricket test averages since 2017 everyone is down across the board.

How was batting easier in the early 2000s? Look at the bowling attacks that were around then. Every team has at least 2 quality FAST bowlers and a good spinner. Look at the 05 ashes bowling line ups. Look at south Africa. Donald pollock steyn ntini. Kumble and murali Vettori and shane bond for nz. Much better than today's bowlers. Your talking nonsense
@barbenheimer736Ай бұрын
@@seanclaxton1408 Yeah naming one bowler per nation definitely means bowling attacks were better in the 2000s. Absolute nonsense the only nations that you could argue had better bowling is Sri Lanka and Australia. South Africa is on par. And we know how good the current Australia attack is and tbf the SL seamers are pretty decent today considering how they went in England.
@seanclaxton1408Ай бұрын
@barbenheimer736 south Africa is on a par with Donald pollack and ntini running in? Doubtful. Aussies had Warne mcgrath and Lee. Did you ever see shane bond. Even Zimbabwe had a good attack. Windies we're better to. How old are you cos it's clear you didn't watch test cricket in the 2000s

@@seanclaxton1408 just look at test batting averages across that period, I’m probably referring more specifically to 07-13 as the easiest time to bat, almost a 1/3 of best batters ever averaging over 50 played in this era, 2000s and 2010s are the easiest time to bat. Facing pace bowling in this era is definitely the hardest it’s ever been in some time, analytics, have taught bowlers the best spot to bowl. Along with the now consistent use of the wobble ball which is unplayable at times and a skill that was completely under utilised by great bowlers u speak off, which would of benefited greatly in this era of the current conditions.

@ianscott424Ай бұрын
@@bencrabtree5647 yep, sample size across the board isn't enough. He's literally played one good first class match, on a flat Adelaide wicket against an attack that lacks any real venom. Will hold judgement for the second innings, but Boland being a world class bowler was all over him on a less friendly batting deck and he looked at sea a bit. Not saying the kids not talented - a century in each innings of a firat class match is class, but it's not quite facing an Indian bowling attack in the first test sort of class. Less pressure on an international debut this season, develop him and get him ready to take an opening spot in a couple of years against softer opposition than India or England.
