How does someone get into the world of jewelry as a profession. Becoming a jeweler can be a tedious and even a mysterious process. Unless you grew up in a home where jewelry was your life, you undoubtedly have a lot of questions. My path to becoming a jeweler was different than others, but my observations, experiences and the people I have met allow me a unique perspective. This video is intended to add insight to what you may expect or need to break into the world of jewelry and maybe become part of the jewelry business.

Thank you for this. I unfortunately just had to quit my full time job, but in doing so realized I'm free to pursue whatever I want next. I've always had a passion for jewlery, so I believe this is the best for me.

New rock enthusiast here I really appreciate your channel as it's honestly hard to find the best information when it comes to identifying rocks. It's quite a daunting and step learning curve process to self-learn from open source information on how to identify rocks accurately. I always want to know conclusively what a rock or mineral is and I've learned a bit of chemistry and geology along the way. I really appreciate you making this channel and sharing your expertise.

I just bought my first faceting machine, I've done a little bit of sculpting in quartz and stone. I bought a book and I've been watching some very informative videos on KZbin, but the amount of information is daunting 😵 Edit: also love your videos you have a very calming and informative demeanor

Hi thank you for your videos! can you do a video on what your repair forms should look like (what kind of things to look for when inspecting the jewelry, what to ask the customer or have them sign before you take a jewelry piece in). I would like to own a repair shop one day.

I just stumbled upon your videos and now I have something to binge while I work! I'm a reseller and have specialized in reselling fine and costume jewelry since 2009. My interest in learning aside from personal growth is so I can properly identify and price pieces I pick up for my online shops. I also make jewelry (cold connections, beaded, and wire) and a dream of mine is to also start metalsmithing. Thank you for your great videos! :)

Thank you for the information! I’m a recently retired military veteran who is looking for a new field. My background is retail, sales and supply, so jewelry sounds like a great transition for me. Are there any jewelry companies that offer an apprenticeship program you would recommend?

Hi Andrew, My Grandson and I are rockhounds and usually harvest our own stones and polish them into key chains or necklaces with either a flat lap or tumbler. i recently picked up a rough slab of Jadite at an estate sale. It is green, so dark it looks almost black after being polished. I am not sure if it is Jadeite or Nephrite. It is beautiful after polish. Very dark. How do I determine whether its Jadeite or Nephrite?

So i am plan to go outside. I searched GIA formal courses, some are affordable for me but soma are not..... It cost around 40,000$. I wonder if it is fine cost for the job's income...... May I ask your opinion about the fee is fine to invest to get into the field?

I started a profitable jewelry business with $0.00 but I understand my demographic, as I started off as a customer, and throughout the years understood "trends" because I was also participating in those. Learned the ins/outs without an education, and now make a living selling jewelry and customized items. It's just one of my incomes. Jewelers are really confused by me, and where I get my custom pendants from, because I do not "fit" the part, but the items are humbly putting theirs to shame.

@@MisterUrbanWorld Good for you! I am curious about your thoughts on starting a handmade non-precious jewelry business later in life. Lower end handmade jewelry, artistic, crafty, unusual. I am afraid I will spend most of my time shipping/mailing and not be able to make enough $. I live in So Cal where the cost of living is high. Would I have to go up to precious metals and stones to make enough per sale? Your help, and anyone's help greatly appreciated.

Australian opal is king. Diamonds are dirty for the environment and most were mined with slave labor in the past. Diamond prices are also artificially created. The big diamond companies have enough diamonds to sink the price and make them damn near worthless. But the don’t put them all out in the market at once to keep prices high. Kinda messed up honestly. Australian opal is gorgeous and you know it was mined and cut by someone passionate. Whereas diamonds, unless you can source back to the mine, god knows what child could have pulled that stone out and got paid a few dollars, meanwhile you pay a years salary on something that doesn’t look any diff then the next
